We will end up keeping our first rounder and draft a key back with it.

I'm not saying whatever he puts up is likely to be the deal but I am saying if we don't get him in FA (which looks increasingly more and more likely) we most likely have to get used to the fact we'll be trading and given how we work, I wouldn't be surprised if that first rounder was part of it. I hope I'm wrong, I really do. I would love nothing more than to walk away if Adelaide matches their offer.

Our first rounder is 15ish. Crows get a compensation of 20ish if they don't match.
Of course our first rounder would need to be involved if they weren't happy with 20.
So if they were to take it to trade , they'd probably want more than just our first rounder.
Sorry agreeing to pick someone up in free trade does not mean we are obliged to sell the farm for them.

so with crouch and higgins on board i would add payne or tarrant & brander,if crouch becomes too difficult,go treloar payne and brander,then go into the 2021 trade period with picks loaded and all guns blazing

use as many of carlisle/savage/ross/dunstan/lonie/roberton/kent/webster/phillips/parker/dmac/joyce/hind/marsh this year and next to load up on those picks

He is put under so much pressure from the guys interviewing him about Pick 2 being the be all and end all.

“We’re open to it. First and foremost we’ve got to consider whether we match the offer. That being the case… there’s then two possibilities. One is that Brad remains a player at the footy club, or otherwise we force a trade with St Kilda. Those options are going to have to be considered during that process…
“He’s a very good player and we’re not in the business of giving away good players without being adequately compensated. That’s certainly something we need to be looking at…
“Brad is a very good player, best and fairest winner at the club, and we would like to be adequately compensated if he is to leave… if it’s not pick two we need to seriously consider matching the offer…”

They are completely misguided, there is so much wrong with that statement.

Brad remains a player or they force a trade with St Kilda... How can you "force" a trade? If Crows match and Brad still doesn't want to be there, it would very obviously be the Crows NEEDING to force a trade. If Brad stays then he's got the years and dollars he was after, but that the Crows dismissed offering to him for years previously. Yeah right.

They're not in the business of giving away good players... Well, no, they aren't "giving him away". They didn't re-sign him, he's out of contract, a free agent. They would receive a free draft pick as compensation (which personally I think all compensation for out of contract players is a joke).

If it's not pick 2... They cannot choose what they receive for him. They receive compensation related to his average salary at his new club. That's all there is to it.

The Crows are absolutely dreaming. Still makes me laugh that they think they hold the cards. Meanwhile our draft picks will be moved on to bring in others.

Now if I’m paying $100 not $50 a whole range of options are now in play, he fits our needs and is attractive as a free agent. Pay him another $150 thousand a year or give up pick 15 and I’m looking elsewhere.

I wasn‘t that keen oh Higgins in his draft year and thought he was a reach in the first round. The young bloke certainly gives all he’s got but I haven’t seen anything from him that has changed my opinion one bit. He might be a better fit than lonie and Kent but not by much. A second round pick is top dollar in fact it’s probably overs. He’s not a genuine mid and he’s not a particularly productive small forward. I don’t see him in our starting 22 so he’s just another fringe backup imo.

I know the trade period hasn’t even started but I hope we have a few surprises because I’m totally underwhelmed at present. Still have no idea what’s going on with Carlisle and if he’s leaving who’s his replacement. That seems a much higher priority than adding another name to the revolving small forward list.

Actually that's a god point about Carlisle, if he leaves the priority should be to replace him.

My preference ....mainly for Crowfan melts. Pre-Season draft.

If all the NGA players get to where they are aligned then yes it may blow out to P26 but,doesn't that mean that every player not involved in NGA,FS etc will still be available to pick.

Yep the dead giveaway is how he keeps banging on about threatening to match the bid 'if the compo isn't right', not 'because we don't want brad to go'.

There is zero chance they match 650 x 5.

As you rightly point out- there is no 'forcing a trade' option available to him once we've submitted a bid.
Once we lodge a bid for brad on friday, the only possible outcomes are:
*No match from Adelaide and he's a saint.
*A match from Adelaide and he's a crow.
*A match from Adelaide and he's in the draft.

The only way they (or any club) can 'force a trade' for an RFA is by convincing the club who wants an RFA to do a trade instead of lodging an RFA bid.

If he hasn't succeeded in scaring our guys (with the prospect of a match) into pursuing a trade instead of lodging a bid by now- then the 'force a trade' boat has already sailed.

If pick 20 is not good enough, which they would get as compensation, why is pick 15 OK. Its bullshit.
We did not commit to trading for him.
Different system altogether.
Would north have taken Dal Santo if we'd matched and asked them for a pick.
Would Bombers have taken BJ if we'd matched and asked Dodo for a pick?
