Might as well keep BBB if we are looking at 15-25...

A pick outside of the top 10 and the trade becomes a negative transaction for us imho... That same range has landed us Ats, Durdin, Bread, McKay, Nielson, Garns etc etc

Hardly worth swapping out a 60 goal a season forward for one of the above...

Why are people even entertaining this?

Some AFL "journo" hack types out some crap to sell advertising, basically portraying the pied piper of dog shit, and then half the world joins in as if what they have fabricated has actual meaning.

It's bizarre stuff.

our list is actually well placed - we just need to clear some dead wood and add some elite talent

Lock in an build around

C Taylor
Vickers Willis
Simkin
LDU
T Thomas
McKay
Murphy
Larkey
Zurhar
Mahony
B Scott
Bonar - had a great month in backline

Get rid of/trade

Wood - trade out
Durdin
Macmillan
Atley - trade out
dumont - trade out
Williams
Campbell
Hall
Pittard
Brown - trade

Totally agree... disagree with the whole notion that we need a whole rebuild.... prob need to get in six or so players.... similar to what st Kilda did although I'd be targeting better players.... of the dead wood above I'd keep hall Campbell and pittard... rationale is hall still has X factor and reckon will shine when in a better team, Campbell good clubman and good support for goldy and xerri... we can only afford to have one of jmac Williams atley or Pitts in the team... as you have got rid of the other three above happy to keep Pitts.... he is a solid player as we saw last year when he plays to his strengths.... personally I'd also keep wood

A genius like Brad Johnson with his extensive history of player valuation and list management basically trolls North Melbourne and people run around quoting him as if he just set the Reserve Bank interest rate.

Charlie Dixon. Spare me. One good year and he's Tony Lockett all of a sudden. The BBB discussion reflects how poorly we are now viewed as a Club. BBB's kicked 60+ goals in three consecutive years in , let's face it, at best an average team, arguably worse than that. 60 goals in today's footy is worth about 90 goals 10 years ago. He's not without excuses this year either. I'd be keeping him regardless. Even from a marketing point of view, he's kept the lights on in the joint.

You can't get rid of some of these eg tyson and hall at just a glance as they are contracted

What about the government?

The AFL doesn't enforce tax law and afaik it doesn't have the right to examine players private financial dealings. It places a salary cap on clubs. Richmond actually admitted earlier this year that the sponsorship they arranged with Puma for Dustin Martin was the only thing that enabled them to match our offer. That sponsorship deal was outside the salary cap.

Ergo while "there is this Little thing called the salary cap" in cases like that where it is sposed to have a particular effect on limiting what money clubs can get for players it clearly doesn't.

Is there anything you know of that prevents across the board deals like that or like the deals offered some West Coast players?

Cos if not what is to stop the scenario we are discussing becoming one where small clubs become nurseries for big clubs. The big clubs will simply set up systems outside the salary cap that let them poach players. Maybe not for every player or even every good player but definitely for every top line absolutely elite player.

In fact there will be articles all year speculating on which big clubs the gun players small clubs have developed will go to once their "development contract" expires.
We need to get a Qatari backer,
Id take a Qatar airways representative a tour of the huddle.
they would laugh at the cost of getting the best players outside the cap. They wouldn’t have a problem doing dodgy deals either.

I reckon we'd be better off getting as many top 50 for next year as possible. With the U18 comp cancelled everyone will be picking Vic kids on last year's form. There may be a lot of late bloomers who go unpicked and are worth looking at next year. Might make next year's draft pretty deep. This year will be a lottery.

Unfortunately, its no certainty that footy in VIC will be played next year, everything is a lottery until we can get back to some normality.

I think we keep Campbell, he is a backup ruckman, if he asks to leave then fine, but no use pushing him out. Xerri is still a long way off it.

I just hope Brady plays hard ball on the length on contracts. Of the 20 odd players out of contract this year, I reckon all of these players, if they are still on the list at all, should only be given a 1-year contract:

Ahern, Crocker, Daw, Pittard, Macmillan, Murphy, Walker, Turner, EVW, Williams, Walker, Bonar, McGuinness.

Some of those will be gone this year, but even so it will leave us with another 20 odd out of contract next year and greater flexibility to manage the list.

I've looked at your post closely and still can't find the 45 step trade scenario.

How about keep BBB and bring in some players who can kick it to him properly?

Weird one, was just going through drafts on a rare day off (clearly shit just going off the chain at the minute in metro Melbourne), but Ian Hill?

Pick 24, 2018. Hasnt really had a go at GWS, stuck behind senior blokes like Greene, Lloyd and Daniels.

Extremely pacey, bit of X-factor. From Perth though, so you'd have to give him the sell.

Can't say he's set the world on fire, but he has the key attributes. Plus, Mahoney probably needs a hand if both Garner & Turner look set for the bin.

Zac Langdon goes ok as well and he’ll be cheaper and more likely.

Thinking logically, it’s does seem a distinct possibility we’re actively shopping Brown because we are very keen on McDonald with our first pick...
