Wait what?
We thought he was worth $750k.
He then kicks 8 goals in 9 games.
So we should now up our offer to $800k?
You never know! the last one isn't exactly a hard act to follow. Effing * supporters
Nobody can convince me that 14 odd game of BBB at Marvel and two in Tassie in 2021 is a bad idea.
Tony Lockett would've struggled to kick a goal in our forward line this year with the way we were moving the ball and delivering it to our forwards. Plus Larkey and Brown played maybe 1 or 2 games together? This means Brown got 2 or 3 defenders on him every time. He also played with a dodgy knee for the whole year.
What are we honestly expecting in return for him? Especially after the club put out an idiotic statement saying they were open to moving him on. Talk about devaluing your own asset! Mind shattering stupidity. Unless the offer from a rival club is a pick inside the top 15, then I am saying no way.
3 years on $800K is fair for Brown. We should just offer him that and get it done. The cap this year was approx $13m, so as a % of the cap, it's entirely reasonable. I understand it will drop for next year, but surely not by a huge %? It simply can't drop too much, there's already many contracts in place all over the league that have to be honoured, which were structured under the old salary cap.
We had a diabolical run with injury this year (which nobody in the media seems aware of when assessing our seasons performance.) If we had Cunners/BBB/JZ/Taylor/Thomas/Garner fit and on the park, along with another pre-season into the likes of Zurhaar, Larkey, Jy, Anderson, Scott, Dumont, LDU, LMAC etc and a couple of good young picks who debut round one, then things can turn around very quickly. If we keep Higgo and Taz continues to be a rock down back with Walker, then it's not all doom and gloom.
The media and other clubs have consistently underestimated and undervalued our players. We all know that. Goldy was clearly the AA ruckman and didn't even make the squad of 40 FFS.
Unfortunately, i feel that our supporters have started undervaluing our players as well. We will be better than a lot of people think next year. Definitely not bottom 4 and maybe sneaking up towards a spot from 7th-10th.
However if we trade BBB and Higgo for speculative 2nd round picks, then I'd say it's deliberate "tank city" next year and everything I've said above becomes null and void.
Remember, it wasn't long ago that Port Adelaide were losing player after player and could barely keep the lights on.....

You know who was a really successful late round pick? Ben Brown...
What happened to Friday nights?Wouldnt have thought so, Good Friday is our game. We pioneered it.
Try and find a really successful pick from the second round - the apparent market rate we will likely be trading him for.

yes but he would not have been ragdolled or out marked

If I can recall correctly, the VFL were a bunch of campaigners. the game expanded with new teams they need to find more time slots is the excuse. Thehve always been a pack of campaignersWhat happened to Friday nights?
I'd date north supporters if i actually encountered a few in person* serves ya right![]()
It’s the speculative nature of the picks we may get in return for BBB and Polec and Higgo that I worry about.
Worst draft ever, great time to snag a few 2nd rounders.
If we were to get some players or higher picks back then I can see the logic.
I fear we may have forced ourselves into a corner we can’t recover from in these possible moves.
You don’t go out and advertise that your marriage has just broken up while selling your house (you can guarantee a lower price because of your perceived desperation to liquidate your assets due to divorce settlement) and I don’t see reconciliation on the table with BBB or Polec.
Rare commodityI'd date north supporters if i actually encountered a few in person
Carlton miss out on another big fish?
Agree however they also have large supporter bases and turn up no matter what. Same can’t be said of us. You can’t have a marquee game with a half full stadium. Plus we’ve just got rid of our two most marketable players being Daw and Brown whom I’m sure helped getting North families through the turnstile. Kids loved them both.Given that AFL's lack of commitment towards this game and North Melbourne's involvement in it then I'd suggest it would be in serious jeopardy and that the Saints and Dogs would be a possibility.
Having said that, Carlton held the season opener despite having a putrid team, both Essendon and Collingwood have played on ANZAC Day as reigning wooden spooners, Melbourne have kept playing on the Queen's Birthday through the past 15 years, and that Hawthorn/Geelong on Easter Monday next year looms as a potential blowout. But yeah, none of those teams is North and Good Friday hasn't been embedded as a true football day.
Anyone else worried that Corr hasn't nominated North like Williams has Carlton?
Or once it became profitable they took it off us and yeah they are a bunch of c&$!sIf I can recall correctly, the VFL were a bunch of campaigners. the game expanded with new teams they need to find more time slots is the excuse. Thehve always been a pack of campaigners
