I'd be aiming at somehow trying to get 1 more first rounder this year and a first rounder for next year's draft. Quality of picks better than quantity.

The only way I can see this realistically happening is if we find clubs particularly interested in Brown and/or Polec.
100% agree getting that 3rd first rounder this draft is key. Getting a trio of high end talent at once will transform this list

Get a first rounder for brown
A top 25 pick for Polec

And target a free agent

When is the 2020 AFL trade period and when will the draft be?

Experts are promising the craziest off-season player exchange in history as 2020 continues to go off script. Now, finally, we have some intel on when the trade madness will begin.

The AFL will forge ahead with a conventional trade and free agency period starting on October 23 as it prepares for the craziest off-season player exchange in history.

The league plans a conventional 10-day trade period as well as a free agency period that will start on the Friday after this year’s delayed Grand Final.

If the Grand Final is not delayed from the scheduled October 17 date, free agency would start on October 23, followed by the trade period on Monday October 26.

That trade period will again run through to the following Wednesday November 4, with a night finish to the trade period again expected.

Last year the free agency period ran 13 days, taking in a final three-day period for clubs to match bids.

It means the league’s trade period will intersect with the Melbourne Spring Carnival, with Flemington’s Melbourne Cup scheduled for November 3.

If the Grand Final is delayed the league will simply push those dates back as many weeks as it needs.

The AFL national draft is not set in stone but is likely to take place in early December, with Year 12 exams meaning it cannot be brought forward given the league needs students to finish schooling before they are selected.

There are still roughly 350 players out of contract, with clubs not yet given an updated total player payments figure for the 2021 season.

But with AFL clubs increasingly bullish about their finances, the AFLPA remains steadfast that it has been given no good reason to reduce the salary cap of $13.273 million plus $1.194 million in additional services agreements (marketing).

Some of the AFL’s elder statesmen have only six or seven weeks to prove their worth as clubs consider whether they have to make list cuts if the league reduces numbers on lists.

That’s the most interesting part of it

our list is actually well placed - we just need to clear some dead wood and add some elite talent

Lock in an build around

C Taylor
Vickers Willis
Simkin
LDU
T Thomas
McKay
Murphy
Larkey
Zurhar
Mahony
B Scott
Bonar - had a great month in backline

Get rid of/trade

Wood - trade out
Durdin
Macmillan
Atley - trade out
dumont - trade out
Williams

Hall
Pittard
Brown - trade

What’s a trade look like for browny realistically?

An early teens pick this year and a future 1st?

we should be trying to get 3 picks inside 15 This year as well as 2+ first rounders next year

It’s a tough one - but we would probably have to take something between 15-25 then maybe on trade with a second rounder for an earlier pick

Either way we need to get our sh..t together and be bold and build a premiership team not a rabble of average players that sits between 8-14 every bloody year

No offence, its obvious you don't understand the business world.

Any transfer of asset to another party, ie. Payments of property and shares to a player, would trigger ATO - CGT implications and not to mention SRO inquiries for property transfers.

Its why drug dealers launder the proceeds from drug sales. They just dont go down to westpac and open up a savings account and deposit $1 mill.
What does that have to do with the AFL salary cap?

I would be trying to get as many draft picks in the top 50 as we can.
I reckon we'd be better off getting as many top 50 for next year as possible. With the U18 comp cancelled everyone will be picking Vic kids on last year's form. There may be a lot of late bloomers who go unpicked and are worth looking at next year. Might make next year's draft pretty deep. This year will be a lottery.

Exactly.

So basically the multi-million dollar empire Judd set up during his playing days by meeting powerful people who gave him extremely sound investment advice should’ve never happened because his earnings outside of footy should’ve been inside the salary cap and the ATO should’ve stopped it.. wow..

Use our two firsts on Phillips and DGB this year.
IF BBB is trade bait then go for a 2021 first.

2020 - Phillips and DGB
2021 - 2 x 1st rounders plus J. Kelly as FA

5 first rounders in two year.

I would ideally like to get as many FUTURE draft picks for any players we trade out this year.

This will be the most compromised draft ever, where drafting will be a lottery with no form guide. No point blowing draft picks this year with basically no data to base selections on.

Agree with both you guys.

Id be open to trading our Melb pick down the draft order if it could secure a 1R Future pick.

we’d need 2 top 5 picks for Phillips and DGB

don’t see it happening now unfortunately

Yeah maybe, but with academy picks and high priority mids in the top 10, one of Tilthorpe, DGB or McDonald should definitely be there at our second, the Dees early loses have helped us a lot more than we think.

Might as well keep BBB if we are looking at 15-25...

A pick outside of the top 10 and the trade becomes a negative transaction for us imho... That same range has landed us Ats, Durdin, Bread, McKay, Nielson, Garns etc etc

Hardly worth swapping out a 60 goal a season forward for one of the above...
