I am really loving these.

Amazing coverage given these are scratch matches. I reckon this is more info than we used to get from VFL matches.

Not only talks about their match performance, but also what they are working on and where the improvement is coming from. I really liked the additional insight they added to LO'Bs write-up.

Really hope the club keeps these up.

Yes - quite an extensive write up on LOB but so obvious that they think he's a little soft and trying to make him 'crack in' as they say. Never sure that this can truly be fixed.

Can he still have a career as an outside ball carrier - isn't that what he was recruited for ??

Sorry, where does it say they think he is soft? Trying to develop an area where he wins more of his footy is great development and guys like Polec were only pure outside players early on as well

Excellent point.
Do ALL players need to be able to do everything?
Does Stocker need to have the endurance of a Sam Walsh or Ed Curnow? Can still be a dominant inside mid without elite aerobic capacity.
Does LOB need to be a inside bull? Does he necessarily need to be able to stand up in tackles? He is an outside runner with a cannon for a leg. Let him do that for God’s sake.
In a perfect world every player would possess and excel in all the aspects of our game. That’s not gonna happen, so please coaches/Match Committee - embrace what the guys CAN do rather than obsessing over what they cannot.

Well when you use words like 'when he’s needed to go, he’s been going' suggest that he hadn't been going 'when he's needed to go' ?

How do you interpret that ??

I simply interpreted it that right now as he's playing a more balanced role, inside and outside rather than pure outside wing, when he has to dig in and hit the contest/bodies/etc he's doing it and really having a crack. Not a historical comment about when he was playing pure outside wing last year. No implications, connotations or smoke & shadows behind the mirrors... just saying that he's putting his head down and hitting the contest when he needs to.

Rather than ball watching he goes, they said similar about Philp

I wouldn’t be so dismissive, these reviews need to give something but at the same time to be careful not to kill a kids confidence or expose a major flaw in their game. I remember at the time of the draft his physicality and toughness were questioned as being areas of improvement.

It sounds like he is making gains in this regard and I hope he gets a crack soon.

Macreadie reviews have been really good the last 3 games, is he ready for a call up? Willow could use a rest.
He'd be relieving Plowman or Docherty more so, both tactically and in terms of where they're at with fatigue.

Nowhere has it been said anything about his physicality or toughness, or lack thereof, as a junior. He needed to work on his contested side

2 completely different players. MacReadie at 198cm would replace Jones or Weitering, not the 190cm Williamson

Was Weitering injured during the game on Sunday?
I tend to block out much of what the commentators say, but I’m sure I heard that JW hurt his calf. Saw it bandaged up, and noticed a visible hobble later in the game. He played it out and put on a few chases, so it’s possibly nothing serious. But perhaps Macreadie could give JW a rest this week or next? If healthy I think we need JW vs the GWS fwd line. But vs Sydney?

Injury update just out, Weitering copped a knock on the calf, expected to play, Cripps a test, McGovern good to go.

What makes selection even more interesting this week is "no reserves game" (what that means as far as whether just before the AFL game or not until the following weekend I'm not sure) but you would think it makes it less likely a player like Dow would be dropped.

Arrow I remember around draft time, a poster here mentioned comments made from one of his coaches in regards of him being scared of the hard stuff, it’s a while ago now, I’m not making it up.

I don't recall that

Only saw about 1/2 dozen games of him as a junior and that never crossed my mind

No one would call Bradley timid, or needing to improve his hardness/strength, despite winning most of his footy on the outside

Finally he’s body is standing up to the workloads again, he’s a very talented kid who i hope like a few of our others gets a chance by years end... If Plowman needs a games rest that’s his spot there third tall, great speed can be an interceptor and offers some run..

I didn’t mean to get in to a back and fourth regarding LOB strengths or weaknesses, I do though think you need to decode a lot of what is written in these VFL match reports, with LOB a lot is being mentioned about him building an inside game, contested ball, going when it’s time to go. When I read that, I get, not hard enough, too timid and he hasn’t been going in, in the past, I don’t like to use the word soft as when watching LOB play I haven’t thought that.

A lot of the stuff in the reports I feel is just a palatable way of telling these players they aren’t up to it in certain areas and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

Just give Willow a rest, I’m surprised he’s lasted this long and with a tight schedule, I don’t us to push him too much.

I like it. And Plow needs a rest. Or moreover....I need a rest from Plow.

😂

oh come on

After throwing Dow and Polson to the wolves on Sunday (not that they played badly), I'd be hesitant to do the same to Macreadie this week.

Having said that, if someone back there needs a rest, so be it.
