Whereabouts are North Ballarat at? They have been locked out and can't get a re-entry. Is it that bad over there?
Maybe the board are still infighting but I dont see them ever coming back to the VFL.Mores the prty but they were not a loved club in Ballarat.

The VFL has to be the most incompetent social media (and media in general) state league out there. Nothing on twitter, facebook or their own website yet but the fixture has been out for 24 hours. Every club has their own fixtures with a run down of highlights yet nothing from the VFL? FMD.

Anyway, highlights for Coburg:

1. Good Friday against NM at Arden St.
2. Double up against Collingwood, which will definitely help the coffers.
3. Play at Moorabbin for the first time in 57 years.
4. "Home" games against Essendon and Preston (affiliated with Carlton), which helps the coffers.

However due to Coburg City Oval redevelopments we need to play our "home" games in Cragieburn (5 games), Werribee, Melton, Preston and Ballarat (1 apiece). This will be a testing season for the Lions, hopefully we get through it.

I bet you miss the Phil Cleary days. Coburg and Frankston obviously punching above their weight but such proud teams with a strong history. I'd like to know what the VFL's 10 year plan is, that's if they even have one.
I would if I was around for them. Always loved Phil on the ABC though.

Werribee had a full year away from Chirnside a few years back and are thriving now, am sure the Burgers will survive.

Out of interest, what are the improvements being made at Piranha park?

That was whilst they were with NM though from memory.

Not sure really.

Hasn't there always been talk of Coburg moving up to Highgate anyway - seem to recall that from a few years back. Melton is an interesting choice for a match too.

Nobody wants it. Shithole of a ground

That was when they were a part of Richmond as we had tried to move on from Punt Rd.

McPherson Park has just had quite an extensive redevelopment, so maybe the council wanted to show it off?

AFL sacked the whole AFL Victoria media staff just before Christmas.

so the AFL are running the whole show.

still nothing up yet.

Well they weren't wrong to do so.

Anyway, Coburg look to have a pretty handy forward line for 2020:

Josh D’Intinosante - Peter McEvoy - Nathan Boucher
Sam Lowson - Callum Moore - Cooper Sharman

Hopefully that can help us cause a few upsets next year.

Same with the practice match schedule. Have tried looking to see if the list of scheduled practice matches are up. A few posts here and there from individual clubs, but nothing on the VFL website.

Oddly enough, they have a link on the VFL website for the 2020 season guide, but when you click on it, they only have the 2019 guides listed...

Yeah, it's a bit frustrating.

One practice match (Casey Vs PM) cancelled, most others scheduled this weekend go ahead behind closed doors. RIP to our 5 stand alones if the VFL season is cancelled, none will be able to survive the loss of revenue and I'd be shocked if AFL Vic offered to compensate them.

Just on Facebook that Coburg Richmond game also cancelled, was originally going to be behind closed doors. Not good news. Probably need a 'what if' statement now from AFL Vic on what happens if season cancelled or significantly delayed. Not a motherhood statement on how safety is important but nuts and bolts on financial support for teams and players (don't play games, don't get paid!!).

Agreed. AFL Vic is most likely waiting on a response from the AFL on what to do, but the financial hit to the clubs not playing (and potentially legally having to refund memberships, etc) would be catastrophic, and I just can't see the AFL falling all over themselves to help.

Yes, won't rush in, will end up with the AFL reserves competition they wanted all along. I feel sorry for the players, lists for AFL aligned clubs mostly finalised and with the real likelihood that suburban leagues will be cancelled there'd be nowhere to go.

Fox Footy is reporting the VFL season is suspended indefinitely, which, while understandable, is an almost certain death blow to Port Melbourne, Werribee, Williamstown, Coburg and Frankston, and leaves Northern Blues, Casey Demons and Box Hill Hawks futures uncertain, as well as Sandringham.

I would hope the clubs involved are financially compensated, allowed to join a local competition (even the Ammos) or both.

I'd be happy to have a "VFA" season between the 5 stand alones, a Sandi without Saints players and a revived Box Hill, Preston and Casey Scorps, personally, but that is highly unlikely to happen.

I don't know about whether VFL, AFL VIC or AFL have thought about compensation. If they want the competition to continue as is then they will have to seriously consider it for the stand alones. If they'd rather scrap the stand alones for an AFL reserves comp then they may just plead poverty as they wave goodbye. As far as clubs joining other local comps there may not be many options there, EFL has indefinitely delayed commencement (and stopped training and practice matches) and EDFL and WRFL look like they may follow suit.
