From our very first match as a club on May 2nd 1925 where we lost our first ever match in the VFL to Richmond we have always had a losing record of wins and losses
We ended our first season with a 3-0-14 record
We ended our first decade with a 34-1-162 record
For our first 18 years, the gap between wins and losses grew bigger until 1943 when we had a 9-6 season, but this was a temporary blip and the gap between wins and losses grew wider and wider until finally
a loss to the Cats in Round 14 1956 left us with a losing record of 132-3-437... a deficit of 305 matches
Now for the good news… every decade since we have had a positive winning record so that we started the 2015 season with a 911-10-959 record merely 48 matches away from drawing level on our all time Win Loss record
Can this be done by 2020?
Catching up 8 matches a year is a tough ask but we can do it with your support, sodonate to Mighty Hawks, no no no, just cheer on the boys as we count it down
In this thread we can also keep an eye on the Head to Head records against other sides, important as they are, but stepping stones to the overall tally
In order of best to worst records, at the moment we stand at
GWS 3-0
Gold Coast 6-0
Brisbane Bears 12-3
Fremantle 22-8
Swans 88-2-68
North 93-2-75
Fitzroy 63-1-52
Melbourne 83-74
St Kilda 78-2-71
Brisbane Lions 14-13
Bulldogs 80-2-75
Adelaide 17-18
Geelong 71-1-85
Richmond 68-84
West Coast 19-24
Port Adelaide 13-17
Collingwood 63-96
Essendon 61-96
Carlton 59-102
That’s 8 sides we still have a losing record against, 8 too many for my liking...
We just passed Brisbane Lions last year, and Adelaide, West Coast & Port Adelaide are all within our sights… though it’d help catching Port if we beat them more often!!!
So after Round 5 we sit at negative 47
914-10-961
Lets reel em in boys…
tl;dr We've had 47 more losses than wins - lets even it up by 2020
