Not sure why the 2020 thread is most appropriate, but it seems a reasonable place for this. My sister decided to trace the family tree. She added my wife's side of the family. Turns out, there were quite a few kids in the past couple of generations. I'm not talking 8 or 9 either...

hahaha....where does one start ??
heart surgery, then flying out 6 days later to oz to assist one's dying mum only only to stumble into the Stamford Hotel, then enjoyed freedom for 3 weeks only for DICKtator DA and his Cronies to weave his magic to the greater Melbourne public. Then due to lockdowns, tied down and not able to visit friends, not able to visit your mother in Olivia Newton John Clinic for the majority of her stay ( 3 visits / long stays ) until her passing.
Now back in Noggy land to have one last christmas with the kids before I sell up / pack up to return in 2021.

2020 year summarised ??? Absolute barrel of laughs.

...Much needed for the development and progression of the club. We'll be actually pushing for finals in 2-3 years and that wouldn't have happened without the shitshow that was the 2020 AFL season.

....when the s**t finally hit the fan at our club. I reckon most of us knew deep down that something like this could and would eventually happen. We’ve been treading water for over 15 years, eventually you go under. Still, what needed to be done was done at least. Looking forward how it all goes the next few years. At least this way we’ve given ourselves a more realistic chance.

2020 was the reset I needed and it taught me that you live to work. Not work to live.

Think you got that backwards but regardless it's awesome to hear you managed to turn your life around.

For me it was hit and miss.

Lost a business, weren't able to see my wife's family in Europe, moved out and couldn't see my parents during the lockdown.

But made some big steps at my day job, recovered some work/life balance and bought a house for ourselves. Found a medication that works for my neurological disorder after what was initially a relapse. Ended up drawing some attention from serious specialists who actually re diagnosed me with a far less serious disorder.

2019 saw some serious family loss, so this year was good in comparison.

As f’ed as it was for me, it was seriously a disaster for my brother who lives O/S. His son was seriously ill and was undergoing some pretty experimental treatments because the conventional therapies were not working. His father had bought tickets to get to AUS three times. On the second trip he was in the plane but it didn't take off after six hours on the tarmac. Airlines were struggling to get permission to land in LA, Auckland, Sydney etc.

Apparently the risk was that if the connection in LA was missed or delayed, it was likely that the entire flight would be forced into 14 days of quarantine in the USA. Then a second 14 days upon arrival to AUS.

Eventually my brother made it to Melbourne but by this time his son was becoming extremely close to dying. Two weeks in hotel quarantine must have been like hell. My brother was given one compassionate exemption to visit his son in Peter Mac (under guard) on about day 9. That two hours was the last time he and his son were able to talk face to face as the boy went into a coma soon after. The price to pay was a full extra day in quarantine and two more covid tests than originally mandated.

We spent time in the hospital while his son passed away just a couple of days after my brother got out of quarantine.

This was during the height of the sh*t that was going down with the hotel quarantine stuff. Despite that, the setbacks and the emotion of it all, my brother said that his experience with the hotel security was not as bad as we saw reported in the media.

That’s so sad. Condolences to your family. ❤️❤️

Was shocked we’d have the balls to do it actually.

Was a strange one for me. Started off with bushfires and then a kid in hospital for five weeks. Then working from home was good for a while, I usually take at least 30 work trips a year, which really equals about 60 or 70 nights, but missed some significant family and friends weddings and funerals.
Was lucky in the end to see my immediate family.
Would not recommend.
