Saw some vision of Joel Western playing last week in a clip that also included Jack Carroll. Joel looks a much smoother mover and a more natural footballer with ball in hand than Carroll, who is touted as a mid range draft pick. Very excited to see him in a Fremantle shirt for the next decade. Winder seems to be a bolter this season so far? If it’s true that we have to pay a premium to keep high Victorian draft picks at the club beyond their initial contracts, then I really hope we focus on WA talent this draft.

It would help the situation to draft more WA players but I know for a fact that it has worked the other way around in the past. When you consider most teams are in the same boat to extent it’s not overly hard to see why clubs still go best available and don’t seem to care where a player is from.

If we pick the right kids it will work. The eagles do it - they seem to like selecting WA talent where there’s a close call. The Adelaide clubs do the same. If it’s true that Adam Cerra is in the top earners at the club due to us paying a premium on his salary simply to keep him here - well then we have all manner of salary cap issues coming at us in 2-3 seasons, if, as we all hope, Brayshaw, Cerra, Young, Serong, Sturt and even Sean Darcy and Tucker become B and even A grade AFL players and need to be paid accordingly.

Western came of limping with a suspected ankle just before HT, didn’t play the 2nd half
Jordan McArdle from the West has since reported that he hurt his left hamstring, his coach says its on the minor end of the scale and miss at most 2 weeks

The kid having a great start to the year.
Isiah just has raw talent. Anyone interested should really watch him live. First time I watched him a couple of years back it took like two passages of play to convince me he's got something.

Should also mention Kobe Farmer kicked 3 goals in that same Colts game today.

Riley Colborne (2021 NGA prospect) also played his first Colts game of the year for South Freo today. Don't expect much yet - he's really raw. Ultra athletic and 190cm+ @ 17yo. Really hope he develops well over the coming months.

Honestly, if he’s available, I don’t think we can afford to pass on McDonald. Home grown KPFs have extra value to me since they can be so hard to find.

He’ll have time to develop in the 2’s and get games when we inevitably have one of Tabs or Hogan out.

Number 1 target for me but can see Sydney, Hawks or North ****ing us

If North get rid of Brown I don't see McDonald getting pass them, as much as I would love them to pass

Was pretty surprised to see Colborne play! Glad he is though. Between him, Farmer and Motlop those are three very intriguing academy prospects. Interested to see how Dallas McAdam goes if he gets a chance over the next few weeks

You have Tilthorpe, McDonald, DGB, and Callow, so we do have a choice if you value talls.
Port went early on Georgiardes, Dee's on Jackson.
Probably riskier than a mid, but sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze.
Second round could be more interesting with BA.
Does anyone feel super confident that our talls will dominate at both ends?

Right, well we best ensure we don't overachieve, so he's a lock =)

I think Callow could almost be a cult figure...dare I say it - in the vein of a Kepler!!

yeah his performances in the WAFL the last 2 weeks have made him look near on irresistible. if he keeps on going anywhere near this well for his next 6 games we’re in danger of him being taken before we get the chance

This points deficit is going to **** us I think unless we finish bottom 2, which I don’t think we will

even without the deficit, the Hawks or North I hope/reckon will finish below us and I could see them both being very interested in him (Brown won’t be around forever for North, Larkey seems good but I’m not sure if he’s a main forward material, meanwhile for the Hawks him and Mitch Lewis would be a hell of a duo)

Yes it will but imagine us missing out on one of Young or Serong and Henry.

Freo will still get there hand's on a top 10 pick unless they start winning a fair few games.

Points deficit was avoidable with better trading and/or bidding on Green like we should have

The more talls that are picked prior to Freo's first will help a mid drop to us. If those teams really rate the top end talls available.

Ideally
Adelaide - Thilthorpe
Dogs - JUH
North - Phillips
Hawks - Hollands
Sydney - DGB
Sydney - Campbell
Freo - McDonald

Others a chance to go before McDonald would be what O’Driscoll and Trew. Am I missing anyone else?

Yeah you are right with Green it would have lessened the points to an extent Maybe Freo rated Young and Serong higher?

On a side note how is Bulldogs going to trade up for Ugle Hagen if they finish top 8 which is very possible. Assuming the Crows make a bid

Think all the Dogs will care about is getting points since they have at least one other decent NGA I think in Raak, with the smaller list sizes it should be easy enough to trade a future 2nd for enough points to cover them

someone like Bruhn? in this hypothetical the melts if we selected Bruhn over McDonald/O’Driscoll/Trew could genuinely break BF

Long way to go yet. For your scenario to play out we would need to finish third bottom though. The points deficit would push us to 5th pick and Then the 2 academy bids on JUH and Campbell pushing us to 7th. Tanner Bruhn seems to be well in top 10 contention. If there’s any footy played in Victoria at all a couple of standouts in the NAB league will rise too.
I think we will win a few games and end up with pick 10 or so after bids and the discount. **** that discount anyway. As you said - shocking trading and pick swapping to let it get to that point before the bid was matched.

someone like Bruhn?

Bruhn would be around the mark but right at this point in time I would have McDonald ahead in sixth place (behind Hollands, Thilthorpe, JUH, Phillips and DGB) and looking to potentially push out DGB and maybe Phillips if he continues the way he is. I think Thilthorpe and maybe JUH will always go before him just given their superior athletic abilities (also Thilthorpe himself has some decent runs on the board).

yeah definitely agree, from what I’ve seen/read I think Bruhn would be around the Trew/O’Driscoll tier
