Most player managers would have data on the best way to earn money playing AFL.

I wonder if moving interstate and having “retainer” cash and an interested home state is a way to maximize earning potential.

I’m not surprised some kids want to leave home, especially if they will earn more.

For top 10 or so picks I'd say absolutely this is the case. What sort of coin do you think Cerra would be on, based on his output so far, if he'd been drafted by Collingwood or Essendon?
Kids in that bracket drafted by one of the four smaller less successful Vic teams, or any one drafted to a state other than their state of origin, the retention bonus would represent a decent percentage of their entire careers earnings unless you turn out to be A grade.

In the interview with Twomey on road to the draft. Elijah Hollands came across very impressive and level headed.

If by some chance he falls our way, and his knee is ok, I would be happy.

Some good players will make it through to the 5-10 range so hope we keep our first round pick.

He is a very clever footballer. If he was 182cm instead of 174cm we would be wetting ourselves.
I'm pretty sure he isn't 174cm anymore. The combine could make him very expensive for us :) This isn't really a bad thing for us though. If Walker and Western are being talked about as high draft picks that is a great sign for us. We still get first access and a discount for this draft.

How tall do you think?

I'm not sure but I'm fairly certain he has grown a bit - he's still short, just doesn't seem tiny now. It's not just his height either - he looks physically more ready for senior footy this season. The kid seems a workhorse off the field - which is probably why he's getting the results on the field as JL would say :)

PSA footy: Jedd Busslinger, Rory Charles, Lewis Mead, Lachie Turley among those who impress in week 10
Jordan McArdle and Mitchell WoodcockThe West Australian

Jedd Busslinger (Trinity)
An under-rated forward who seems to get better and grow in confidence with every game he plays after missing the first half of the season with a lower-back issue.
Runs hard up and down the ground to present an option for his team, but it is deep in attack where he does his best work.
In his team’s drought-breaking win against Wesley, the 16-year-old was dangerous in the air when he took a number of great marks, while his agility and skill saw him pick the ball up below his knees to kick two of his three fantastic goals.

Rory Charles (Trinity)
Early in the game, Trinity were under pressure and it was Charles across half back who stood up to hold Wesley at bay.
Running across half-back, Charles used his pace to break the lines and his penetrating kick to set up the play forward of centre.

Rory Charles, Lawson Humphries and Lewis Mead all impressed for their respective schools on Tuesday.

Charles took three intercept marks in the first quarter alone and whenever Wesley challenged, he was there to make sure they never got close enough to really threaten.
One of Trinity’s most consistent players in a tough season.

Lewis Mead (Wesley)
A midfielder who just worked hard to keep his team in the contest for all four quarters.
Mead was at the bottom of a lot of packs, laid plenty of tackles and did his best to win as many clearances as he could when Trinity were dominating the game.
A goal in the final term capped off a wonderful game for Mead, who was his team’s best player on the day.

Taj Woewodin (Aquinas)
The son of Brownlow medallist Shane Woewodin deserves a lot of credit for his school’s position at the top-end of the ladder.
With skipper Josh Cripps and deputy Sam Emery both out with season-ending knee injuries, Woewodin has taken the captaincy reins.
He is relishing the increased responsibility and leading from the front, putting together a consistent season.
The East Fremantle colt uses the ball so well by foot rebounding off half-back or through the midfield, hitting up targets with ease.
He was one again one of their best in Tuesday’s big win over reigning champs Hale School.
Lachie Turley (Aquinas)
He can do it down back, he can also do it up forward.
The usual key defender has shown he’s no one-trick pony in the past fortnight, impressing as an attacking target against Wesley and Hale respectively.
Aquinas College’s lack at big forward has forced Quinten Lynch to think outside of the box, swinging Turley to the opposite end of the ground to where he started the season.
The South Fremantle colt didn’t let his coach down, booting three goals on Tuesday to go with four the previous week.
The load was shared up forward this week with livewire Jesse Motlop kicking five, Jack Norrish four and Turley three.

Lawson Humphries (Hale)
Hale would’ve been beaten by triple figures if it wasn’t for captain Lawson Humphries.
The reliable, silky-skilled defender was terrific as usual down back, taking a heap of intercept marks and using the ball with precision out of defence.
The West Coast Next Generation Academy member, from Wickham in the Pilbara, has arguably been his side’s most consistent player this season.
He was rewarded with a colts debut for Swan Districts this month and looks to have the attributes to go a long way.

174cm would be generous for what he tested at the start of the year haha

Ha ha. Hmmm maybe he is around the 174cm mark then (and just started shorter than I thought). He didn't seem that short standing next to Jye Bolton (187cm) a while back. Regardless I really don't get the over obsession with height. I'd happily take 168cm Caleb Daniel on my list any day. And the 177cm Lachie Neale is doing ok as well :) Hopefully Western is a similar bargain as those two.

Yeah he tested at 172cm flat, those tests could always turn up a bit inaccurate and height can be deceiving at times, every time I’ve watched DGB this year he still looks the same height as last year and not 195cm although it might be down to watching him against bigger and more senior bodies.

Teams are in for WAFL btw... All our NGA prospects are playing in the East Freo v Claremont Colts game.

If you can't get to the game then it will be streamed by The Worst. It is only $1 for a one day subscription :)

Players to keep an eye on:

East Freo - Brandon Walker (#9), Chris Walker (#7), Keanu Haddow (#13), Richard Bartlett (#27), Jack Carroll (#16)
Claremont - Joel Western (#10), Samuel Alvarez (#13), Kalin Lane (#28), Logan Young (#2), Jacob Van Rooyen (#23)

Taylin Bin Busu (#27) for Claremont is also in our NGA.

Carroll, Lane, Young and Van Rooyen are not in our NGA but are potential draftees this year or next year.

Precarious spot for the club, I would think they try and trade for extra picks next year if that occurs.

Pick 24 for pick 40 and a future 2nd rounder.
If we are taking three players, those two may not be our best options. The club may need a development ruck, or they may have updates on Pearce, Hamling or Logue that brings a defender into the equation, and decide to go with the chance of getting them in Cat B.

The riots if we dont take Western and Walker haha.

You have a fair point though.

The Perth v Subi game is also being televised on 7.

O'Driscoll (#20) has been named again and with Masten not playing should get plenty of opportunity on ball. McDonald (#6) is of course playing. Also check out Nic Martin (#37) for Subi who is a decent mature age prospect.

Carn you black and red bastards!
