I'm wondering if they are hoping to play two ruck/forwards rather than a ruck and a ruck/forward. If the former they may try to get a mature ager who can play straight away.
Not sure what they think of Darcy.

I think a player that can play ruck and forward means they have another option in place of Lobb; right now there is no accountability on his spot. They almost have to play him because any other combination basically means a ruck (Meek) sitting on the bench doing nothing or they have to play Cox or Taberner in there getting thrashed, and neither is a space they want to go to.

Meek goes forward.

After watching the Perth v Subi game I'm back on the O'Driscoll love train. He's got very good hands in congestion.

Our defence will be a+ next year with depth.
Forward will be a next year with fyfe spending more time in front of goals.
Outside run to compliment Freddy would be my preference.
Our forward line will look far better with Fyfe playing midfield. A major current negative for us is the lack of midfield goals.

Henry Taberner Sturt
Lobb Hogan Walters

That is a match winning formula if you are feeding it with a good midfield.

perhaps we need to...if we bring Jesse in he can...Nathan isn't really excelling in either position at the moment...or at least to his usual standard

Anyone gone info and or seen Jed Hagen...15yo played on the weekend for EF colts and collected 28 possessions?
Darn you! I was going to write a separate post just about this kid. I just haven't had a chance to get to it yet!

He very well could be the #1 pick in a couple of years. Incredible for his age.

He won’t go 1 in 2022, good little player but a kid from Victoria called Elijah Tsatas is a star. Looks better even better than Horne and I don’t say that lightly. Plenty of good kids from SA aswell to look out for.

Us West Aussies have to get behind our WA boys sometimes though ;) The kid has won the best u15 player award in consecutive years. He's the only player to win it twice to my knowledge. An award previously won by Jack Martin, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Tarryn Thomas etc. It's fair to say he's likely to be at the top end of the draft. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of years.

Yeah it’s not hard to get excited when he keeps getting in the bests playing colts.

His size will count against him as their are a lot of big bodied mids in the frame for the 2022 draft. Tsatas is a bit like Horne but already taller at 188cm and he isn’t a big body either he relies purely on his smarts and athleticism, I haven’t seen a kid at that age hit ruck taps so cleanly and quickly and dart around the opposition like they are nothing. Very Judd like, Hagan looks great as a Will Phillips type but there is a reason someone like Hollands is rated above Phillips.

for the most part it’s a recap of JL’s ABC interview, although this is interesting
“Brisbane has shown significant interest in Western, while Walker has also had several interviews with interstate clubs” and “the pair are likely to draw bids from rival clubs as early as the 1st round”

Great news, Brisbane's picks will be in the early 20s

Look like we are pick 5 or 6 which means pick 8 or 9 after points deficit. Hi Chris 25 who do you think be available to us at those picks? Some probable 3-4 players?

If we are specifically looking at outside run...

Nathan O'Driscoll will obviously be at the top of our list being the top WA midfielder. With his size, you would expect him to move inside eventually but I do like him out on a wing. And it does seem as though JLo likes the idea of having bigger wings - Bewley and Acres with us, trialing McCarthy there and even Mayne when he was at Collingwood. He's a good runner with a long kick, think he'd fit in very nicely. Our points deficit might be the problem though, as of right now there looks to be a top 7 - and O'Driscoll is arguably #8.

One guy who would be a great fit is Oliver Henry, a medium sized utility. He could be that marking third tall up front or the link man across CHF. Potentially you could develop him into a wing, but he's not going to be a huge improvement in terms of outside speed. Archie Perkins would be discussed on a best available front, but is more your forward/inside mid potential. The other one in that next grouping of about 4 is Tanner Bruhn, but again inside is where he does his best work.

We could put a bid on Lachlan Jones from the Port Adelaide NGA. He's primarily a medium defender, but has the potential to be the best midfielder from the draft. He's big and powerful with speed, his run off half back could easily translate to the midfield. But any bid for him will definitely be matched.

The last guy I'd be looking at is Jack Carroll. Our pick potentially may be considered too early, but I've been saying he could rocket into the first round mix. He has the height and skills that clubs love, and he's shown off some real versatility too. I think he could be a very good wing.

Draft shake-up: Next Gen Academies to phase out access to top prospects
Changes to the Next Generation Academies are set to have an impact on where top prospects land

THE AFL is set to phase out clubs' access to leading Next Generation Academy draft prospects after changes to the program.
The League last week announced that it would take control of the Next Generation Academies with the assistance of the clubs as part of a range of modifications to the talent pathway.
Since 2016, the NGAs have been club-run (with an annual financial contribution from the AFL) with the incentive to develop multicultural and Indigenous talents and then get first access to them in the draft.
TALL, ATHLETIC AND VERSATILE 25 of the best draft prospects
But in what will be a significant shift to the NGA rules, clubs expect that at least the first round, and possibly the second, would be made 'protected' from NGA bids.

  • This means there would be no ability to match bids on NGA players within that protected part of the draft, making for a less compromised pool given the clubs will not have invested as much resources and development in the players.

However, after the protected part of the draft has ended, it is expected that clubs will be able to list their NGA talents with later picks as normal with the AFL keen to continue its drive for more diversity within its playing ranks.

The changes will not come into effect before the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

But for example under that model the Western Bulldogs would not get priority access on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, who is tipped as the possible No.1 pick this year but is linked to the Dogs under the NGA rules.

IT'S A BLITZ Possible No.1 smashes Combine tests to boost standing

It also means top-end graduates of the program such as Collingwood's Isaac Quaynor, North Melbourne's Tarryn Thomas and Fremantle's Liam Henry in previous years would have been available to all clubs given they were first-round selections.

But the likes of Collingwood's Atu Bosenavulagi and Melbourne's Toby Bedford, who were taken late in the 2018 draft, would still be free to automatically join their NGA clubs.

Clubs have been notified of impending changes to the Next Generation Academy system but a timeline on when – and how – the phasing out of access to the top prospects will begin has yet to be detailed.

Some have proposed that players who have already signed up to their NGA programs who are aged 15 and over should be tied to the club under the current bidding rules, which is the same as father-son and northern Academy players.

They have suggested that players were lured to the AFL code from other sports as teenagers because of the Next Generation Academies and that they should be able to have access for them if they are deemed good enough to be selected in the 'protected' part of the draft.

The AFL still wants clubs to have a role in the implementation of the NGA programs, knowing that the attachment of a club brand is important for juniors coming through.

This year looms as the biggest in NGA history, with Ugle-Hagan, Lachie Jones (Port Adelaide), Reef McInnes (Collingwood), Connor Downie (Hawthorn), Cody Brand (Essendon) and Joel Western (Fremantle) all possible top-25 picks as NGA products.
