We have all seen major mistakes by all clubs.

In the NFL, New England Patriots are way ahead of the pack in drafting.

It’s just mad not to study what they do.

They don’t watch lower level games.

I'm talking about Aussie Rules, not sure of the relevance of other sports to your spurious comment on PSA footy.

They traded him for a 2nd round pick and a bust offensive tackle.

yes - he was traded before FA as they didn’t want to take the cap hit. My point was they drafted him. Not that their drafting has been amazing. I was simply saying he was a very good draft pick up. He wasn’t traded because they thought he was rubbish. He was traded because they didn’t want to pay his $$

I've noticed you are way off the mark a lot of the time which we all can be but this is so way off it's ridiculous. Having lived in Boston for 9 years I can't let this one pass.

To say the Pats don't watch lower level games is like saying Bailey Banfield is the highest skilled backman at Essendon. Its wrong in almost every sense.

If you're going to learn from the Pats you actually MAKE SURE people go along to watch the games and not rely on the widely available scouting reports. They make their own minds up and don't rely on the Mel Kiper level analysis that the Bengals and Jags etc use. What they don't rely on is watching scouting video supplied by independent resources available to all franchises. They send their own guys they know and trust and who know what they want and they then watch the shit out of the positions/players they are interested in. They also know 2 lower first round picks are worth as much as 1 high end pick if you don't have a specific need at a skill position so they pray on those who have those needs and go for quantity and quality.

Apart from this view that PSA footy should be taken as a grain of salt, what other views I am way off?

I can see that I am wrong about the New England but I did form the view from hearing Michael Lombardi speaking about level of comp when assessing talent on SEN.

Lombardi talked about how College football can be lopsided. The best assessing talent was when powerhouse team played each other and assessed players on those games.

In regards to PSA, it’s way behind The NAB league, and Melbourne private school comp.

To assess WA talent, best games to via players is at the 18’s champ, WAFL colts finals and WAFL seniors.

That run through the traffic of 3 or so Royals players was really nice, probably gets caught at AFL level there, but a nice play nonetheless

Jed Kemp looks good too, one to keep an eye on

He has a weird kicking style, more chip and non natural.. more visual and longer pin point kicking would make me more comfortable with recruiting him..

Remember we have the option to him, not the obligation
I did notice that. It can be coached to improvement though. Much rather see laser like lower trajectory kicks. See Hayden young and Liam Henry. We have seen enough weird kicking styles at freo over the journey though to be fair it’s a more skilled young list now.

I am not sure how much of his game you have seen (and apologies if you are commenting on more than just the highlights reel) but if that is all that has been seen it would probably be wise not to come to any conclusions of 3 kicks on the run which IMO are not particularly representative of how he normally kicks the ball. It is a bit like the Cerra one where there were a few loopy kicks in his highlights videos and then everyone assumed he was a "loopy kick".

Additionally I would say people shouldn't assume that he is regularly a player that takes on other players a lot either like he does in those three plays - my take is that generally he is a more conservative with his options, with more balance between defence and attack.

How tall is he? Looks a big strong Kid.

I think he is probably somewhere in the 182-185cm range. WAFL website has him at 184cm but they tend to overestimate, but conversely he may have grown a bit.

Going to be a big man. And so hard to judge someone off 3 kicks.

The exciting bit for me was the pace and the size of Brandon. This is particularly exciting as his brother Chris has moved into the midfield and could turn out a steal when he beds down a position in there.

I'm not seeing a particularly unorthodox kicking style in this vision? Maybe the guiding hand on the ball drop is a few cm's lower than normal but otherwise seems straight forward?
It’s not an elite kicking style to me (Admittedly based on very limited vision) but that’s ok. The majority of AFL players are not elite kickers from what I see anyway. Nathan O’Driscoll is another guy with a weird kicking style. The question is, does his other positive traits, eg costested ball bull, pace, outweigh an imperfect kicking style? Fyfe and Dangerfield to name but 2 are not elite kickers. One guy who looks a very silky smooth footballer is Joel Western. If his decision making on the ball is elite, we have ourselves a real gem there.
I will say that scores come easier when you have a team packed full of natural footballers. Hawthorn 2012-15 were a great example of that. Clinical and efficient ball use meant they didn’t need to win contested possession counts every game to win, unlike us in that era.

Just from that short bit of vision, he positions himself well, is large, agile and fast. You can see why he is rated beyond just fans of the club (Medhat was going to be a star too etc etc.)

Reading through some stuff from Draft Central

#13 Sam Alvarez

The Fremantle Dockers’ NGA member was excellent on the wing for Claremont with 19 possessions and two goals. The highlight of his game came in the third quarter, when he snapped through his first goal.

Anyone know anything about him? Haven't heard anything about him being part of our NGA before

Zurgblade mentions him back in 2018 as NGA and is pretty knowladgeable about undarage footy in WA.

I've never heard of him though.
