Ok. So I understand the following about the rising star:
- a player must be aged 20 or under on Jan 1 of the year in question.
- a player must have played 10 or fewer games at the start of the season
- that a player may be nominated over more than one season, as long as the above criteria is met.
So Sam Sturt turns 21 on May 12. He has played three games, earning a 2020 nomination in one of them.
It will be interesting to see what his odds are as the 2021 season approaches.

First-round draft fancy Heath Chapman starred as West Perth made it five wins from as many starts against Perth at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.
Captain Chapman was best-afield as the ladder-leading Falcons remained undefeated with a 78-point thrashing of the Demons, with 28 disposals at 86 per cent efficiency to go with seven marks.
The intercept-marking defender’s draft stocks are rising, with Fremantle and West Coast already showing interest along with several interstate clubs.

O'Driscoll just has "the vibe" whereas Trew doesn't 
O'Driscoll is a bigger body (with the capacity to get stronger), seems more powerful and "explosive" speed-wise and has more runs on the board. Rumors are that he is also now around 190cm tall, so you are talking a really annoying player package to match up on if you are the opposition; I can deal with 190cm and slow but 190cm and fast and powerful is just a problem. Will play WAFL seniors most likely in the next few weeks.
Trew reminds me (very vaguely) of Kane Lucas at junior level; at junior level looks good, good kick, got good pace and has got good numbers this year before getting injured and all but....just a bit vanilla. Also I think he will always be a kind of wiry midfielder and not sure if he will get a go in the WAFL seniors. Hopefully / probably will be a lot better than Lucas...

What I noticed in the game I saw streamed with Trew is that his handballing is very elite and his hands at clearances are also brilliant. But what I found was he was bumped around pretty easily, he won’t be able to really excel in that extractor role until he has that mature body ala Cunnington. I’m getting the Vibe we are looking to trade down our first round pick.

If Sharp or *Fisher or anybody else rumours are true, we will be to either trade out players, down grade our picks, or trade future picks.
* In two minds about Fisher. As the older guys and Cripps beat us in the middle and not their young players.
Suns gave up pick 11 for Sharp. Plus with the Weller drama they might be very difficult to deal with.

People talk about their drafting in the last two years, but seriously a blind three legged dog could have picked Rowell, Anderson, Rankine, King, and Lukosuis. All were no brainer picks.
Traded future priority pick 11 for a pick around 19-22 i forget to pick him up.

The way we are playing the most likely we may end up pick 5,6, or 7. It may slide to 8 9,11 respectively.. do you guys think odricoll will be available at that picks? What about archie perkins or Nik cox if it is 9 or 11? Would be a reach?

That was actually the other way around. They traded 17&22 so they could draft Flanders at pick 11. Probably not a bad trade considering he was seen as part of the top tier of draftees with a few here wanting us to take him over Serong.
Trading pick 11 this year also doesn't look so bad when you consider that there are lots of first round F/S and academy prospects.
There is also the fine print.
"While the package is set for three years to provide certainty to players, staff and the entire industry, the AFL Commission retains the right to remove future picks and / or academy access based on the club’s performance."
There's a good chance this years performance was good enough that the AFL would take away pick 11, and it would've been almost certain if Rowell didn't get injured.
Most reports suggested that Carlton offered a future 2nd and 3rd round pick for Jack Martin, and turned down GC's request of pick 11 for Jack Martin and pick 17. That's well undervalue for a player you've offered a $3 million, 5 year contract to.
Blues were extremely lucky that the Demons didn’t select Martin.
Anyway, I think the Suns could have used future two and third and traded with a team that needs points. Basically upgrading their picks.

The OP of our 2020 draft thread has stuck a "-5-" on the title suggesting we will have your r1 pick (no other info posted) ... or maybe trade for a player like Brad Crouch.
No. And I don't reckon he is that good. I'd do that trade to secure M.King pre ACL and I don't think Logan is at that level.
Buckely's chance we trade for Crouch. I'd be staggered if we took him for free.

I'm one who has actually proposed trading for North's pick 2 to get McDonald using our future 1st, provided we get some change to pay for our NGAs this year.
Pick 1 seems to have a stupid price attached to it for no valid reason and no one ever trades it so I'd be surprised if that happens.
If our first is used to bring in either Crouch in any way, I will burn Cockburn to the ground

He seems the type who could go earlier in a compromised year like this one. When you haven't seen them play, at least you know speed is speed.

Yeah I can see this draft being a phantoms nightmare, plenty of players coming from the clouds or even previously highly rated players going undrafted.
