2021-22 MVP Power Rankings - Nikola Jokic is the MVP

I will be updating this thread weekly every Monday evening to power rank this seasons MVP, if you're into that sort of thing. I am using the GmSc*W quantification that I think produces very good results. It will probably look a bit funky early days but as the W/L records normalize it will level out and look pretty accurate.

(GameScore per game * Wins played) is a measurement that factors in the 3 most important historical factors in MVP voting: raw statistical output, individual durability and team success. Using this method more often that not correctly predicts the final choice for MVP and has challenged some of the closer races or more controversial previous winners.

I will also be able to track Rookie of the Year rankings this way, however I will ignore the wins part of the equation that is used for MVP as winning historically doesn't matter as much for ROTY winners; it is much more focused on their raw output and durability only.

For me though it's a straight shoot out between Curry and Durant for MVP, like the graphs above portray. They have both been terrific in teams that lead each conference.

Curry is an interesting one, if he could win another MVP and a 4th Championship... that would give him 4 chips and 3 MVPs in the LeBron era. That's something else.

ROTY im with the above graphics too, Duarte was great early but has faded to be a straight fight between Mobley and Barnes at the moment. The Raptors look like genius' for going for Barnes over the more sought after Suggs who has been super average.

Cunningham im sure will be fine but right now he looks average after being the absolute consensus No.1 pick.

If Cade impresses before January I'll be surprised. He'll start going from strength to strength as other rookies are hitting the wall.

Shooting percentage will rise as his turnovers will decrease as he continues to find his touch and fitness base.

I think it is getting hard to make a case for anyone other than Jokic if the season ended today.

25/13/6/ - 60%FG / 39% from 3

Highest PER of all time

2nd best player on the team injured

3rd best player injured/terrible so far

4th seed in the West

Laid our a Morris twin

What more could you want from an MVP?

Unfortunately I get the feeling there is already voter fatigue for Jokic. I’d probably go Curry if the season ended today.

It felt like they were honestly reluctant last year but had no choice, it’s a shame he is so disrespected.

Agree Curry probably wins if it was voted on today

Will admit did forget about Jokic who has been immense.

Giannis too has been amazing but his team is just losing games. I know they have had a LOT of injuries but same can be said with the Nuggets but they are still winning so it pushes Jokic up for me.

Steph and KD lead the way but only a hair between those two and Jokic. Gotta give props to Steph who has led the Warriors to the best record in the entire league while Klay hasnt played a minute.

It's just those four so far this year with only Jimmy Butler hanging on their coat tails. Other players have been good like DeRozan and Lavine, AD, Chris Paul, Paul George but they are all a fair way back.

If he doesn't get himself suspended Jokic is on something around 216 which puts him as a clear median between KD and DeRozan
