The worst part is we had already done so much work prior to that trade.

Our big 3 were Ollie Henry, Finlay Macrae and Reef McInnis, all 3 I'd be happy to spend top 10 picks on and all represent exceptional value.

But then for whatever reason we decided to trade our future 1st for a bunch of random picks, and then traded back and back and back again, which resulted in us picking a few highly speculative nobodies LOL.

It's quite cute how other collingwood supporters tried to justify the trading of a future 1st with the performances of Henry, Macrae and McInnis, when they are completely irrelevant.

Had we kept pick 2, it would've almost certainly been:

1. JHF
2. Darcy (Coll bid)
3. Callaghan
4. Daicos
5. Whoever

Hindsight is everyone’s friend when it comes to the AFL
Especially in drafting

no one expected Collingwood to finish second last this year. Last year was a horrendous off season but Even then They thought they were doing the right thing and unfortunately it backfired.
It was like us in 2017
No one could’ve predicted us as premiers

Same with Melbourne this year after finishing second last after playing in a prelim in 2019 then 9th last year.
no one can predict what happens in the AFL it’s unpredictable and exactly what the Suits At head office want.

Trading future picks always comes with risk as no one can predict the future.

The absolute worst-case scenario for us is if Erasmus is still on the board and we select a KPP. The melts will be astronomical.
To be honest, I will whinge regardless of who we pick up if Erasmus is there and we pass on him. Fits our needs perfectly.

The club probably estimated our pick to be 6-10, with the pick swallowed up by a Daicos bid. More use in trading 6-10 for value, and using late points elsewhere.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

Though I did remember hating trading yet another first round pick. Imagine having both Callaghan and Daicos (sigh).

But even pick 5 is still a huge loss for us.

Even pick 10.

Collingwood could have made a pick swap with North that was in North's favour, with the understanding that North would also not bid on Daicos. Of course, North may not have bid anyway, but a little insurance doesn't hurt.
