It is some epic melting, but only goes to show the insular nature of Eagles fans. Chesser isn’t a mid from WA, so must be a dud pick.
PS: yes, I’m still happy as the proverbial Larry.

Depending who we are looking for and thinking he will not available at pick 31 or 39, is it worth trading:
pick 31 and a 2022 second round pick for pick 21 and a 2022 third round pick
or not fair either way?

Be happy with Draper, Taylor or Warner at our 2nd pick if they last that long, then use our 3rd pick on Charlie Dean (if around) or one of the other KPDs if we rate them. Obviously if Bazzo is still there at our 2nd pick, I'd be grabbing him. I know Sonsie and some of the others would be big sliders if they got that far, but this is where needs comes in for me and with us already picking 2 inside mids, I think we should focus on those who offer something on the outside/wing now. While some of those other guys have potential on the outside, all of them seem to have issues with kicking or workrate, so I'd like to avoid that.I think we have got the 12th and 19th pick of the remaining players. Might use pick 32 for best of who is left.
In the 11 picks before ours, I assume Bazzo will be gone as the best young key defender. Butler gone as the best small forward, Conway as the best young ruck and Howes as the most highly rated forward flanker. (So that is 4/11.)
As midfielders there is still Sonsie, Draper, Johnson, Goater, Knevett, Taylor, Roberts, MacDonald and Warner. So I am confident that at least 2 of those 9 midfielders will be available at our pick 32.
Of the remaining players from draft centrals top 40. Motlop, Clarke, Murley and Rankin seem like small forwards/Mids. And we probably don't take Jack Williams since we already have a few developing tall forwards.
Alternatively we might look at a running half back like Alastair Lord or someone else seen as a late pick. Or a mature defender like Charlie Dean.
Still getting over the Sheldrick shock myself, but this is what gives me some confidence (I rated him, just not in 1st round). We clearly didn't want to take any risk he was gone by our 2nd pick, and while we didn't move our pick to get him, it's a similar, very deliberate investment decision to what we've done for Rowbottom, Warner etc in recent years.A lot of the Vic kids have been looked at like the plague in the last few drafts. They had a few interrupted years, they didn't have car accidents and spend two years in comas.
Anyway the Eagles fans are dumb, this much is common knowledge. It also shows their lack of trust in their club, a club who, much as I hate them, are quite well-run, and have delivered their fans much success. They traded down and then took the player they wanted in Chesser. It was a calculated, infallible move that showed they clearly wanted Chesser above all others and knew they'd get their man. Wouldn't you as fans take solace in that?
Would be time to get out the popcorn I reckon. I'm all on board the KPD train obviously, but two of them AND Paddy?Hope we get Bazzo with 31 and Dean with 39

I'll settle for one this year and another next, if BOC or Gould don't come on.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I was never THAT impressed with Brown.
Much happier with Sheldrick, but if we were going to take Brown ill be interested to see how his career goes.

Pick for needs,You heard me correctly B86.
I am of the belief that we have too many mids of both the inside and outside variety to fit into the team both now and 3-5 years from now. On the other hand, we are already a key defender short and that is with 32-year old Rampe in the team. We need two more, and forgive me for not wanting to pin all our future hopes on Melican who can barely stay fit for a whole season, or Paddy who was delisted for a reason, or a free agent we will perennially struggle to attract.
I also just don't think much of the other names being thrown about around our remaining picks (operating under the assumption both Sonsie and Taylor will be gone by our 31.)
There will be some genuine “who” selections tonight. There is not much between the remaining. Sonsie not a type we need imo, Taylor could be handy. Left field could be Fitzgerald to add defence. Having said that I am not big in Vic boys at this point in the draft, and I wonder if we will see a predominance of non Vic selections 20 onwards? You heard me correctly B86.

You can’t overlook the lack of footy for the Vic kids. You are basically relying on u16 form given that is really all you have as franked form. This years NAB season games were stop start so it was not like any of the draftees have big blocks of form more so good moments here and there, that includes Daicos, Darcy etc. Maybe the only exception I can think of is Callaghan. They are right to be concerned, I think the regular footy is a big plus for SA and WA kids. Given the choice between players I would go them ahead of Vic boys.
I know you are a wrap for Chesser, He is a risk imo and no way a certified gun going forward.

We have 39 in the live draft order?A look at Lore's spreadsheet this morning. Tragedy!! Collingwood, the thieves stole our pick 39

We're less looking for depth in KPD, than we are actually having 2-3 that can be in our best 22. Maybe we'll luck on a mature ager sometime, but it's not a guarantee.I think over the next few seasons we might start looking at mature KPDs for depth in that position.
It seems like it takes 2-3 years of development for a 18yo KPD. And we seem hesitant to give them early debuts because mistakes are magnified. So even if we had drafted guys like McAsey or Grainger Barrass. I think they would still be in a developing phase.
In a perfect world I'd love to get Bazzo. I just think he might be gone by our next pick. Next year's draft is flush with talls apparently. With Paddy onboard I'm not sure what is on our recruiters minds. KPD is THE one position we never spend much money on.You heard me correctly B86.
