I always find it amusing that Airlines can put up prices whenever they like but there's always a public outcry over "surge" prices by Uber etc on New Years Day or Christmas . . .
Airline prices go up depending on demand. You could book the same seats on the same flight much cheaper if you get in before there is demand. They have different prices for different seat classes. It’s not a new thing and it’s the same way every airline in the world sells their seats.

Not true. The airlines increased their prices in anticipation of demand. The demand will force them to put on extra flights

Demand of people booking flights increases the price. People would have been able to book those same flights at a cheaper price however once you get hundreds of people booking the price goes up as cheaper seats get sold. Happens every year for every busy period around the world. Same thing with trying to book seats at Xmas or Easter, busy times you need to book well in advance.

Prices went up the day after Port won. At that stage there was only 3 seats on the Qantas flight sold to that point.

Set to start 5:15pm local time. I'm actually okay with twilight Grand Finals, but a 7:15pm start time for most of the country seems a bit too late for mine.

How would you know there were only 3 seats sold? What do you think happened after port won? Do you think from the evening they won to the next day port fans weren’t buying seats to Perth? Doesn’t take long for seats to start going up in price. A flight doesn’t have a few thousand seats.

Because I work for them and know exactly what time the price increase was uploaded to the system
