Melbourne aren’t arch enemies and haven’t been so for nearly 60 years.
Tell them. The Q game is their grand final every year. Why? Because they hate us and a win is like a flag. It's the only time they get a crowd during most seasons.
Carlton hasn't been an arch enemy for two decades but you won't see anyone wishing them success any time soon.
Do you seriously want to rock up to the next Queens Birthday clash with them the reigning premier's and the members jam packed with their arrogant toffs?
No thanks.

I’m happy to barrack for the Dees on the day because the Dogs have already broken their drought. That will hand the longest drought record to StKilda I believe? I’d be happy with that too. I’m neutral on Treloar although hope for his sake he doesn5 have a sticker like in the SF.

That said I will definitely barrack for th3 winning team because I’ll happily change sides mid match.
Once an arch enemy, always an arch enemy. Primary school in the late 50's and early 60's was a nightmare never to be forgotten or forgiven.

Who's the bigger choker the last couple of years if Port lose this. Brisbane or Port Adelaide.

Have been wondering this. Arguments for and against both.

I would say Port.

Port losing by 70 points after winning their home QF then losing their PF without even really putting up a fight is one of the most unusual things I've seen

Teams get smashed in Prelims but I can't think of a QF winner getting smashed like this.

Brisbane at least tried in all their losses since 2019. Nothing overly embarrassing

I must say it’s great to see all the Grand Final talk and for there to be no mention of Port Power wanting to wear the prison bars jumper, because they aren’t playing in the Grand Final.

Thanks for choking Port!!!

Maybe the bye is an omen for the dogs.

First year we had the pre finals bye, dogs win the premiership.

First year we have the pre GF bye, dogs in the grand final….
Yep rapt they won in 16 but without the bye when they were battered and then GWS only having 1 game in the 3 leading up I don’t think the Dogs make the Granny.

Glad they did

My two most unpleasant experiences have been on Queens Birthday games. Supporters having a go at my daughter (she thought Collingwood should never lose). Really nasty things said.

My grandson of 14 rang me last night ecstatic as just like his dad is a doggie supporter. His father is seriously ill (not covid) and in hospital.

How can I not go for a Bulldogs win?

Fair enough for the over 70s but they have been irrelevant to the rest of us since forever.
Nah Melbourne still have a fair swag of their look down their noses at the rest of the comp. History counts also. Can’t stand them

I once had the misfortune to watch a Queens Birthday game in the MCC.

Never again.

A favourite footy memory is watching Dees Vs Collingwood one night in early 97 as an early teen. We were sitting on the Ponsford, and a bunch of uni-aged Dees supporters were having a merry old time drinking away. They were screaming 'go Dees' in these stupid theatrical private school accents, and kept in good spirits as we absolutely flogged them that night. I recall losing my crap laughing when one of their entourage passed out, and more when they left him on the benches at the end of the game.

102 point win if I remember correctly. Round 2, 1997.

North also largely irrelevant. At least I have witnessed an actual rivalry in my lifetime ( by that I mean finals).

I only recall one Collingwood Melbourne final in my life…. There might have been more but they knocked us out in a semi in 1988.

We play them every year at the same time of year. It’s always a public holiday. It’s always at the G. It is the only game ever played in Victoria that day. Every year without fail.
We’ve done this for decades.
They hate us with a passion.

So, Go Dogs.

Useless stat. We kicked 67 goals in the first 3 games of that season

Round 3 was a loss to the Saints wasn’t it? We were 1st, them 16th.
There were stages in 1997 where we looked great, saying that I was only 9 then.

At Waverley, think they kicked the last 3 or 4 to get up. Then we lost to Carlton the next week, our best chance agst them for a while after leading at 1/2 time, then won 4 to go 6 and 2 before we went through our June lean period and then missed finals.

It was a loss, but I yearn for that kind of offense.

Feels like we're a long way from kicking 130 plus in a game again

Just going back to 2010-11 we were a high scoring team. That was brilliant viewing week in week out. Goals, goals, goals.

88 was straight sets

i went to the elimination final in 89 at vfl park - of course we lost lol

Was gonna say: anybody who didn't see Barassi and Adams lauding it over other teams really have no idea about how "entitled" the MCC can be....
I don't hold "arch enemy" status to mean much anymore since the old grounds died off....but Melbourne don't make me all warm and fuzzy either!
