Not really. Attendance has changed just as much as memberships over the last few decades.
There have always been different levels of membership. Social club, 22 games, 11 games, junior, absentee, country, overseas.
And before Docklands there were not really different $$$ levels of seating, it was just get there early and be on level 1, get there late and have to sit up the back.
How has attendance changed? Every person is counted, there are either at the ground or not?

It's not like they use to only count people over 6 feet tall and now they count everybody and 2 babies are worth more than one 6 foot tall person who use to be special.

Because we are not counting dollars, just the number of people that have signed up and committed to their club. Just like attendance figure, some people are kids who get in for free, some pay $25 and stand, some in $70 reserved seats and some in $1000 corporate suites. Does that bother you as well?
Exactly. And amongst the paying customers at any given match are those who are passionately invested, or moderately involved, or just tagging along with a partner or mates, or theatre goers not really following either team, or those barely interested in the outcome of the match. They all count to the gate numbers though.

Have you followed the thread?
Same as memberships, each person is counted regardless of how much they pay.

Hahahaha where is that fool that said membership numbers mean nothing as the Eagles would have dwarfed Richmond in revenue.

So many experts until proven otherwise..

And the Eagles actually got to play on its home ground last year in front of fans....

Richmond didn't get to play at the MCG once in front of its home state fans...

West Coast certainly dwarfed us....

West Coast refunded a lot of their membership and rolled it over to this year, They are that rich, they could afford to do that. Also, Richmond took huge sums in job keeper due to their side hustle in Gyms. West Coast don't have to bother with that sort of stuff.

Lol west coast don't have to bother about competition either, freo that's it. Richmond has 10 other clubs to compete against.
Maybe, if Richmond were only 1 of 2 clubs in Victoria we too wouldn't need to look outside of normal football revenue

He was just pointing out facts, why have a go at him?
Be thankful that you are now more informed of what influenced the numbers.

'Side hustle' in gyms, you men's, expanding portfolio, diversifying revenue streams, not being run like a little local lawn bowls club - aka Port '4 Million loss with crowds' Adelaide.

Wow, ok if that's the way it came across I happily edited it.
But my 2nd point stands Vic clubs need to look outside of normal football revenue, to stay ahead of the pack.

That's fine, I agree that clubs should look at other ethical revenue sources, gyms are a great idea - I had no idea Tigers did that.

But it just helps to explain why there is a discrepancy in numbers and not simply ticket revenue.

You sure about that?
This article states West Coast got 1.4m in job keeper payments

Huge sums. Richmond claimed 10 times that amount. You’re also the only club to include merchandise sales as part of your revenue figure.

Essendon - 78,113.

COVID innuendo has slowed membership sales across the comp.
Really ?? we have not noticed

Tiger Army set new AFL industry membership record

Richmond is proud to announce it has surpassed 103,358 members to set a new AFL industry record.
The Club became the first team to edge past 100,000 members in July 2018 and has remained above the mark in each season since.
Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the Club’s current membership tally of 103,450 again highlighted the unwavering loyalty and support of the Tiger Army.

Definitely has hurt us. We have played half our games interstate and with the uncertainty going forward why would anyone sign up currently

All clubs sales have slowed down significantly the last two weeks. That’s the point I’m making. Until two weeks ago, clubs were still selling well (including Richmond).
