To be fair, total AFL club memberships have climbed significantly across the board in the last 6 years. It'll be about 200,000 higher than 2015, of which Richmond comprise about 30,000.
  • 2021 = 1,000,000+
  • 2017 = 907,561
  • 2016 = 875, 197
  • 2015 = 836,136
Fair points.

Total club membership numbers (average per club):

2013 = 756,717 (42,040)
2014 = 804,460 (44,692)
2015 = 836,136 (46,452)
2016 = 875,197 (48,622)
2017 = 907,561 (50,420)
2018 = 1,008,494 (56,027)
2019 = 1,057,572 (58,754)
2020 = 992,854 (55,159)
2021 = 973,977 among 16 clubs (60,874)

2021 is incomplete for obvious reasons. Haven't seen any numbers from Adelaide and Fremantle and the numbers will need to be audited by the AFL.

Yeah, there's definitely been a mental shift in footy fans to become supporters. Probably courtesy of better marketing strategies by the AFL - I don't think we've necessarily become more passionate as fans, but I could be wrong.

I think we should have a membership tracker , similar to the one League-Unlimited has for its NRL clubs .

Will give people an idea of how excited a fan base is , and it is generally interesting to keep track of the figures.
