We'd want back into this year's 2nd, not out of it.

Richmond's Picks 28-30 would be the best bet IMO. That'd be their 3rd / 4th / 5th Picks so they may be interested in losing one to gain an extra 2nd next year.

SUMMARY:
At his best, Tyler Sonsie is a top five talent who is able to win the ball at stoppages to great effect while also going forward to kick multiple goals. We have seen his best at Under 16 level and a in couple of games this year - including against Calder Cannons in Round 2, and while playing for Box Hill in his only VFL outing. It’s the down games that could have him going lower than his talent would suggest. If Sonsie can bring his best every week, improve his strength and find that next gear to get to more contests around the ground with an improved fitness base, he will become an elite midfielder in the AFL.

SUMMARY:
Sam Butler is a forward/midfielder with a difference. He can play inside or outside, high or deep forward, and his traits lend themselves to any role he is given. Unlike many small forwards who hit the scoreboard regularly, Butler is not afraid to work hard and apply himself to contests he might never get a stat for, doing the team thing. As a whole, Butler looms as a value pick, likely in the second round, as it is more of making a few tweaks to the way he goes about it, rather than wholesale changes.

SUMMARY:
Mitch Knevitt is anticipated to go somewhere in that second round, with a number of clubs viewing him as a Top 25 prospect. He could go as high as late first round, or slide later in the second round, but his end to the year, and his unsurprising testing results at the recent AFL Vic Country Draft Combine where he finished in the top few for both the 20m sprint and 2km time trial, means he will likely be closer to the former than the latter. One way or another, he is one to watch in the coming years with his potential.

SUMMARY:
Howes will likely be a pick made on upside, with his array of developable traits and continued rate of development all very promising. His athleticism is high-level across the board, but he was also able to show his footballing nous with increasing success throughout the season. Versatility is another big tick for Howes, who can be moulded into a few different roles and has a high ceiling in terms of what he could become in an elite environment. He looks set to be taken somewhere within the second round and could push into top 25 contention.

I like the sound of Howes (if only for the surname clash) but as Poppy and Izzy have moved on, prioritise those two even though they are in the shorter height range. Might a Swingman like obrien/gunston/sicily - or even Kosi be avaialble in 2022 draft?

I see they can all provide centre square rotation at least early on

Sounds to me like the management of Johnson are toxic. Makes so much sense to avoid the tiresome unproductive and inevitable "gun to the head" contract negotiations. However i would love to know who else they represent so we can gauge (with the precision of football punditry 101) the relative toxicity. I imagine we may be able to calibrate this number by subtracting the actual number that Johnson is selected at minus what Hawthorn were considering to select him at (ie X-7). Failing this pointless numeric exercise (which i predict will become a benchmark for Prof King and his erstwhile assistant Labrat Cornes) my hope is we grab the Knevitt and the Sonsie. Hip hip hooray Hawkers!

The other possibility from the "toxic management" theory is that he just isnt rated that highly by other clubs.

Goater gives us speed in the middle or half back and is very athletic, but seems to want to play it safe as a half back and can rush his kicks under pressure

Hey Davo-27 I've only watched the highlights of Goater and the bold is very kind to what I saw. Do you think we can actually fix his kicking under pressure? Cause the pressure only gets higher at the top level.

At the moment he is the only one I don't want us to pick.

I wouldn’t be opposed to us grabbing Connor McDonald at pick 23, but Sonsie seems like the locked choice.

Can we trade up and get another kid in the 20’s? Would be fantastic if we do.

Gut feel is that we won't pass on Sonsie if he is available.

If he is gone I'm all in on Knevitt for a point of difference difference in our midfield. Following that I'd be stoked with one of Butler or Taylor, however understand the club may look towards Bazzo in the defensive end.

If I'm McKenzie and I get final say, I'm grabbing Knevitt and Butler then trading up to nab a Charlie Dean or Tyreece Lieu if we think they'll be taken by our next selection. (If Sonsie is gone).

Wasn't there a few mentions in articles about Sam Mitchell rating Johnson highly and wanting us to snag him? Maybe it's just simply that other clubs didn't rate him as highly as other players.

I'd imagine if Sonsie is available at pick 23 we'll grab him and we'll take Johnson if he somehow slides to 26, but it's hard to see him not going at one of those other early 2nd round picks.

Sonsie looks clean and composed.

Knevitt looks like a bit of a scrapper in comparison, IMO.
