Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

We should have a very good option at our first. Just hope we don’t go safe on a ward pick. But with Finn a certainty to be gone, if the two talls go (gibcus/Andrew) then we have pick of the mids. Or one or both of talls slips through who may be too good not to pick up in same way we got DGB. Given we bid on Campbell before taking DGB picking someone like Sinn would not surprise me one bit.

Our 2nd round we really need to hope on some sliders. But could get lucky and say both Chesser and Draper available who would really suit us well. Both are pretty flexible and can play range of role but also have midfield potential (ie can hold a flank/wing on merit but also add to midfield rotations).
Very much agree with this comment and players mentioned. If we played it safe 17 years ago, we wouldn't have selected Franklin.

I know it’s all opinion but these Herald Sun guys seem to be genuinely clueless.

For our first pick.

Would love to get: Callaghan

Will be chuffed if we get: Ward, Rachele, Sinn, Hobbs, Erasmus, Andrew

Would be surprised, but will understand there’s some deeper thinking behind it, if we get: Gibcus, Johnson, NWM, Sonsie.

If we somehow manage to grab 2 of the above players….

Hi posters - first post for a while. I was just watching the Mac Andrews highlights. This chap is a buddy franklin opportunity. So agile - i can see him gliding around the forward line leaping over kosi and his opponent as they wrestle for an aerial ball, in.....wait for it.....round one!

No one else stands out as being this unusual. His ball handling is wonderful. He picks it up off his feet at pace. He skips around the strum und drang of contested football, leaving a buzzing fury of angry short people in his wake! Gosh I hope he is there at pick 5 or 7 or whatever we are likely to wrangle on the night.

As for the other players, they all seem ok and thats about it.

Wiil GWS and gold coast be picking with an eye on resale in a few years time?

Good chance you will be chuffed mate.
You have named 6 and we have the 5th real pick.
:) ;)

Yeah, that’s just it, there’s not much that’s not going to impress me with our first.

Comes with the territory of a top 5 picks.

My prediction (minus Daicos and Darcy because let’s face it who gives a sheit about these two):

JHF (given), Andrews (GWS have enough mids and need a tall with X-factor), Gibcus (GC need a quality KPD and there is no go home factor with this kid), Rachelle (Crows have this guy on its radar why meet with him multiple times) and we then get Finn. It’ll happen!

There is no chance those 3 clubs pass on Callaghan without trading back a spot or 2 to take full advantage.

The more I watch of NWM's highlights the more I like him, just caresses the ball. Would love to get him, 5 might be a reach, but he's in that awkward mid-range.

I think whoever gets him will be very pleased with impeccable service to forwards, Rioli-esque!

We only get him by trading down pick 5. There is no evidence the club is interested but if they are and like Johnson then there is a chance of getting both. I doubt either will be there by the time of our second round picks.

Do gold coast turn to Hobbs now they've lost greenwood? No doubt they would have concerns with Callaghan being a flight risk if gws go Andrew.
Taking steps to build a winning list has never been a driver for them previously though?

There is if they think he’s a flight risk and they know they won’t get the “overs” they want for a pick trade.

Interstate clubs love Vic Country kids because they genuinely like getting to clubs in other bigs cities, and are not wedded to Melbourne in majority of instances.

If there’s is even a sniff of Callaghan being another Bayside boy who will do a Gunston in 2yrs, we’re in the box seat.

I think if Mac Andrew is there, we will take him

also, tall skinny with dark skin. Distinctive, and I see player(s) meeting the description featuring in other draft prospects videos.

is it the same player, or are there more players in the featured games meeting the description. Hard to tell from the video, you don’t get a close look. Does anyone know?

Strikes me as the player from this draft who, if properly developed, we could be talking about in 20 years. He's also the type of prospect who could be a bust, especially if he ends up at the wrong club (Gold Coast). I'm keen though.

I pretty much agree with SYL's analysis. Be very happy with any of Callaghan (unlikely), Andrew, Rachelle, Ward, Hobbs, Erasmus.

A midfielder makes the most sense from a list perspective, but I want a player me and my kids can get excited about watching, so would be wrapped with Andrew or Rachelle. We have been boring to watch for half a decade now.
