Not sure us being linked with Motlop means we need to concede that he's a lock for us. There are so many variables in the draft, especially once you get outside of the first 5-10 picks, that I don't think Twomey or anyone else doing phantom drafts has an idea who we'll pick. The accuracy of phantom drafts over the years has gotten worse - and that's not having a go at anyone. There are just so many variables in the draft, throw in live trading and phantom drafts become mostly throwing darts blindly at a dart board. At this stage, Twomey doesn't seem to be confident in his first 7-8 picks, let alone what's going to happen in the 2nd round.

I'm sure we've got a shortlist of ~5 guys we think will be there but there's also a very real chance that someone slides to our pick - Deven Robertson stands out from a couple of years ago, Jeremy Sharp from that same draft too.

It is always a very exciting time when the National Draft comes around. But equally, I also have great waves of sadness around some outcomes of the draft.

Tonight a few boys will go to sleep, dreaming about a club that they want to call home.

But a few unsuspecting young footballers, will get their names read out by *essendon. Oh dear, how sad.

*sympathy to these boys.

Does anyone know if *dodoro hands these boys a pack of syringes and some of *danksy's *delights, to set them off on the right tack from the word go?

Better than going to GC and your career basically being forgotten about until some Victorian Club pulls you out of obscurity.

1. North Melbourne - Jason Horne-Francis
Height, Weight:
185cm, 81kg
Profile: What separates Horne-Francis from the rest of the pool is his application and influence defensively, with his aggression, pressure, tackling, second and third efforts and run back in support elite even by AFL standards. He also plays a high impact per possession game, wins the ball at full speed through the midfield and causes headaches up forward aerially, when the ball hits the deck and when isolated one-on-one.

22. North Melbourne - Jesse Motlop (Fremantle Next-Generation Academy)
Height, Weight:
176cm, 75kg
Profile: The son of Daniel Motlop, Jesse like his father is a talented, one-touch, quick and composed crumbing forward with tricks around goal. How Motlop impacts games most is through his forward pressure, with his tackling and chasing often relentless.

43. North Melbourne - Sam Banks
Height, Weight:
187cm, 76kg
Profile: Awarded the Division 2 MVP at the 2019 AFL under-16 championships, Banks has been widely regarded as Tasmania's top prospect in this draft for several years now. A rebounding half-back, Banks does his best work by foot and with his run and carry.

44. North Melbourne - Brady Hough
Height, Weight:
189cm, 75kg
Profile: Hough is a hard-working midfielder who has displayed the versatility to play across all lines. Hough has to date looked best suited rotating between wing and half-forward, with his work leading up at the football and ball use his main strengths.

54. North Melbourne - Jackson Archer (North Melbourne Father-Son)
Height, Weight:
183cm, 70kg
Profile: The son of Glenn, Jackson while lightly built is like his father - a competitive defender who competes strongly in one-on-one contests and tackles aggressively. While Archer doesn't find a lot of the football, his ball use is generally sound.

That’s very average.

Would rather Sam Butler at our second pick in that scenario

And if Sonsie does slide that far he’d be hard to pass up despite not filling a need

The AFL Draft, some young men will actualise their hopes and dreams, others will be drafted by Carlton

I understand there's a lot of excitement around tomorrows draft but I think we all just need to temper our expectations. Please don't forget that our draftees are yet to full fill their North Melbourne draft requirement of the first 2 years on the injury list.

Just went through some footage of Jesse Motlop. While I'm still not super keen on using a 2nd rounder on him, he was impressive in both Champ games vs SA. Applied very good defensive pressure, was tidier than I remembered with his disposal and moved very well in traffic. Played better in these 2 games for me than he did in many of the Colts + Seniors games he played in this season.

Biggest issue for me is he is just isn't very quick in space. There were a couple of moments in the games I was flicking through where he was in space with someone chasing and the gap closed on each occasion. They were perfect moments for him to put in the after-burners but he just doesn't appear to have that in him.

I'll adjust my comparison of him to more along the lines of Eddie Betts athletically.

Twomey's rankings of Motlop in each month

July - #24
August - #23
September - #24
October - #20
November - #22

So if we do take him, he has been ranked around the mark and isn't really a 'reach'.
