Metro's line up for Friday's game it seems, a few surprises in there, I wasn't expecting Ryan to make the squad let alone the team but her and Appleby on opposing wings will be a good watch I imagine with that speed combination. Also happy to see Lynch get a go early on, genuinely think she'll be one to lift with better teammates around. Just looking at it I'm assuming the actual line up will be

B: Tarah Delgado - Cadhla Schmidli - Pia Staltari
HB: Brooke Vickers - Stella Reid - Kiana Lynch
C: Maykaylah Appleby - Bridget Deed - Jorja Livingstone
HF: Emelia Yassir - Neve Crowley - Montana Ham
FF: Eliza James - Tahlia Gillard - Amanda Ling
R: Georgia Campbell - Charlie Rowbottom - Georgie Prespakis
IN/C: Chloe Saultry, Charlotte Ryan, Zali Friswell, Keeley Sherar, anyone else I might've missed

So a decent team, will be interesting to see Country's line up, when that comes out I'll do some key match ups

1. Gold Coast - Teagan Levi
2. Geelong - Georgie Prespakis (Tara Slender if they keep going Country girls though)
3. West Coast - Courtney Rowley
4. St Kilda - Tara Slender
5. Richmond - Charlie Rowbottom
6. GWS - Ally Morphett
7. Western Bulldogs - Emelia Yassir
8. Carlton - Stella Reid

If I had to guess at this stage, the interstate club picks are essentially locked in, not a massive amount of options between them except for West Coast who could go Franklin (doubtful)

Prespakis, Slender and Rowbottom could go in any order but will almost certainly be the top 3 from Vic unless something drastically changes

What about Maykayla Appleby? Highly rated coming into this year.

Has some really good traits that'll draw some attention early for sure, superb speed and confidence to tuck the ball under her arm, take a few bounces and deliver some lovely long kicks, but she's got some consistency issues, from quarter to quarter and game to game, so production is a little low across the board, and she could do more on the defensive side of things

I'm disappointed by the lack of Chaplin and Meagher. Other than Ham and Ling, is it all 03 birthdays?
Saultry is an 02. I'm surprised there's no Chaplin, although I suspect she goes up to Queensland with a couple of these girls to drop out for those games. Meagher focusing on VFLW sort of signalled that she wasn't pushing for U19 squad

I don't think Meagher played on the weekend, though, so I was hoping she would play.

Is there a U17s game as well, or just U19s?

Should be an U17s game, whether it's before or after is quite the mystery currently 😂

If the Draft order stays the same, ie GC and/or Cats don't trade down their top picks, i'd be pleasantly/extremely surprised if St. Kilda went for Tara Slender allowing Richmond to snap up Charlie Rowbottom
After Georgie Prespakis, who i believe to be clear top Vic pick No 1, Stella Reid, Charlie Rowbottom and Tara Slender would be the next 2-4 rankings in my opinion
Is the Vic region going to stay all of Victoria or do you think it'll go back to Vic metro and Geelong zones?

Would be very surprised if they introduce the country zone option again without warning, if they did I imagine they'd make it you can select to only nominate Geelong but not only nominate Metro.

There's been some discussion around the possibility of a priority pick though, so still a lot to play out with Geelong I imagine. It'll be interesting to see which way St. Kilda go though, Slender suits a need (especially with Brown delisted) as a versatile tall, but Rowbottom might be hard to look past as a relatively local midfield beast, and could pair well with Smith and Patrikios for a good decade or so

Yeah that's how i look at it, Rowbottom, Smith and Patrikios would be ridiculously good in a few years
That's why i think Saints will go Prespakis (if available) or Rowbottom when their pick comes up, with Richmond having a difficult decision to make with the next pick
Your probably right in suggesting a priority pick for Geelong, like what Tigers & Eagles got last season, would be given, considering the way their season played out, they got thumped even more this year, than what Eagles and Tigers did last year

Yeah, I was lucky enough to here a couple of NAB League coaches discussing it over the weekend so think it's likely. I think any of the top 3 prospects (Prespakis, Rowbottom and Slender) are going to instantly improve their clubs, and all fit a need at the clubs with those picks, so I'm excited to see how the order or them ends up. The other thing to note is the fact Saints were missing BnF winner Vesley all year, so they have that injection coming into the midfield, and the 2022 top 5 mids from VIC look very good, so it's why I'I'bde leaning to Slender

U17's are playing at 10am I'm told - be really interesting to compare how far off the different elite age levels are...... ;)

Oh forgot about Vesley for the Saints, can see your rationale
Rowbottom and Slender, same height, both play a similar mid role, with Slender a bit more marking forward?
Hard to split them and i really like Stella Reid (Oakleigh Chargers), looks like a ripper player
Charlotte Baskaran & Montana Ham (Western Jets), Amber Clarke (Dandenong Stingrays), Sofia Hurley (Sandringham Dragons) next years draft, just going to be a super draft, getting better each year to be honest

That's what you want to see, whether Prespakis or Lynch - to see who relishes the rise in footy class and overall skill. "The whole team becomes greater than the sum of the parts......" Individial efforts are one thing but who also builds better players around them through sometimes lesser deeds!

Yeah got that confirmation Yesterday from Sarah Black, and the website has been updated since. Should be good, there's a fair few for Metro especially that I'd be playing in the 19's instead, but obviously they give priority to the draft age and 02 born girls, and take on club feedback

Yeah pretty much, Slender less brute force and power through the guts than Rowbottom, but similar ball winning capabilities, with Slender having that experience as a KPD and KPF, she'ss more likely to end up either end than midfield imo

Hard to split them and i really like Stella Reid (Oakleigh Chargers), looks like a ripper player
Agreed, Rowbottom and Slender you're just picking who's better by what position you need imo, Reid looks good, but still not at the level of those two, probably more in line with likes of Yassir, Craven, Friend, Gillard, etc.

Charlotte Baskaran & Montana Ham (Western Jets), Amber Clarke (Dandenong Stingrays), Sofia Hurley (Sandringham Dragons) next years draft, just going to be a super draft, getting better each year to be honest
Yep, add Emily Shepherd, Bridie Hipwell, Lily-Rose Williamson and (possibly) Lily Hart to those as just the top mids for next year and it's scary when you add on the forwards and defenders as well.

Looks like Chaplin and Lennox have since been added to this list, so 24 listed would make

B: Tarah Delgado - Kasey Lennox - Pia Staltari
HB: Brooke Vickers - Cadhla Schmidli - Stella Reid
C: Maykayla Appleby - Maeve Chaplin - Jorja Livingstone
HF: Emelia Yassir - Neve Crowley - Montana Ham
FF: Eliza James - Tahlia Gillard - Amanda Ling
R: Georgia Campbell - Charlie Rowbottom - Georgie Prespakis
INC: Kiana Lynch, Bridget Deed, Chloe Saultry, Charlotte Ryan, Zali Friswell, Keeley Sherar

Stronger down back with the addition of Lennox as a tall (probably takes Slender) and Chaplin can roll through there as well

Northern Bulldogs have to be odds on to take Appleby.

What type of player do you see Campbell becoming in AFLW? Is she too short to be a ruck?
Do you think she has the propensity to play back or forward? Or is she likely to become a tall midfielder?

If bulldogs are looking for an outside mid specifically I'd think Reid is their go to before Appleby, higher production, more versatile, cleaner skills

Campbell's shorter side for an AFLW ruck but I'd be betting she beats most of them for athleticism, her leap is insanely good. When she faced Gillard for Ranges v Cannons she jumped over her a couple of times in ruck contests, so it'd just be a risk of her getting outbodied in boundary/ around the ground stoppages. Certainly see her being capable of playing KPP down either end, most likely forward since she can just have the ball put on top of her and she'll out leap opponents, just needs to tidy up her kicking a bit and she'll be Best 21 for most clubs I'd say
