Usually more outside-mid or wing, I think.
He was being a smart arse to me because when I read the AFLW preview and it said a contested ball winner, I pointed out to him that it was incorrect and she plays outside roles :p

For reference we chatted to the trio of Academy girls as well as Britton, Bennett, East, Lakay and Schilling.
Where and when can we read these interviews?

We'll be staggering them out in the lead-up to the AFLW Draft. We did them via video (we will have accompanying articles), though for some girls (across all the teams) they will just have written features as they might be a bit camera shy. All those girls went on camera though.

We also interviewed many of the Allies today (NSW/ACT and NT, Tassie weren't there at that time and we did the majority preseason), and are doing all the draft-eligible South Australians tomorrow.

Love your work buddy

Looks like the most recent U17s Metro v Country game was streamed on YouTube and can be watched there. I haven't watched it yet, but it doesn't appear that Baskaran, Hipwell or Hurley played for Metro, so they're at least available for the U19s on Thursday.

Baskaran confirmed to us those 3 will be playing thankfully. I just finished watching the 17s game, McDonald with 2 goals, one was a nice opposite foot snap, and Pissano looking dominant in the rover role, beautiful stuff

Just watched the 17s game again (actually paid attention this time). I said it on Good Friday, I was shocked RIley Wilcox didn't make that Metro side for the Friday clash, and he performance yesterday validates that, she's very good and was close to best on behind Pissano, has improved as the years gone on and is very much one to watch going forward, McDonald as well proving she can impact anywhere. Van der Vlies, Jordan, Busch, Beatty, Stone, Potter, Taylor and Rigoni are others that had pretty good games whilst not being dominant for Metro, Charlotte Taylor is going to be one that shoots up next year, 175 cm mid that moves insanely well and uses it even better

Country had less standouts, their defensive set up with Eardley, Hay, Walton, Di Donato (at times) and Olivia Robinson was really good, just didn't have that midfield power to consistently reward the hard work of the backline, which isn't a massive shock with Skepper out. 2023 eligible Bianca Lyne was super impressive in the ruck against Vandenboom who's a good 12 cm taller than her, played as that extra mid at ground level as well.

Is there a team list somewhere so I can watch it and match names with numbers?

Unlisted players: #18 Mackenzie Eardley (Country), #6 Riley Wilcox (Metro)
Couldn't figure out Metro's #17, but it's definitely not Hipwell

ignore the highlighting, it's just the 2023 eligible girls.
Country:
#1 Kara Stacey
#2 Lila Keck
#3 Alisha Molesworth
#4 Olivia RObinson
#5 Yasmin Duursma since those are blurry in the pic

Ava Campbell from the Eastern Ranges - another 05er. I put together team lists before watching and got Campbell's name off the AFLphotos site.
Oh beauty, I browsed the photos looking for Wilcox but couldn't find Campbell, cheers for that

Given the video quality, it wasn't always easy to tell which of Eardley, Hay and Walton was which.

Eardley definitely stood out to me as being above the level of most of the girls playing. Probably not a surprise given she was playing U19s in her previous outing. I thought her repeat defensive efforts around the 8 minute mark were very impressive. A few of her teammates were a lot less enthusiastic in their defence there.

Yeah she was good especially early on for mine, but sort of drifted out of it as the game went on with Hay and Walton stepping more up, but certainly that trio made it difficult to differentiate at times :tearsofjoy: just glad Zoe Hill is too old for it, that'd be some real trouble!
Di Donato as well, I knew she'd be good but I've never seen her as composed as she was that game, some times where she just stood up and led country from the front, I expect both go back into the 19s side for their Queensland match

I was disappointed Hay wasn't included in the U19s squad. I'd have liked to have seen her line up some of the taller Metro players. I'd also be interested to see her tried up forward, since she's a good mark and kick. I'm guessing VC doesn't have a bunch of backups they can throw down there, though, particularly if Eardley's playing in the other team.

Di Donato's definitely on the watch list for next year. Good size too, so could probably play a lot of different roles. It's going to be fun watching the 04 girls take over the league.

Each year I feel much older.

I was 14 years old then.
