You seem to be warming on Friend.

Friend is 2 days off being underage (Bolton the same in his draft year) and is improving at the right time of year. Same type of player as Slender (contested marking key forward that can go through the midfield). Ironically similar to Brennan. Friend has a few more rough edges in comparison to Slender at this point but upside is arguably higher. I think it will be Slender for us but whoever gets Friend will get a beauty.

I must say I like the fact that Slender was captain of Bendigo Pioneers. These are the girls that will drive the culture of the club in future years.

Think of her as McKenzie 2.0,
The most versatile player in the state, and possibly across the country.
Tara Slender has massive upside - a really good kick, great attack on the ball, very good overhead.
she can adapt in any situation, and is as balanced as they come with an ability to win the ball in the air or at ground level.
Capable of playing in defence, up forward or even through the midfield, Slender knows how to find the ball, can clunk marks and lay fierce tackles.

Yep top 5, Prespakis, Rowbottom, Slender Friend & Reid will be gone by the first 6-7 Vic picks, with Geelong picking Craven in their 2nd or 3rd picks
Really after those 5-6 players it could go anyway after that, depending on what clubs rate/need
With Jess Hosking, Vic picks 3 & 11 were never going to be on the table, especially with expansion clubs Essendon & Hawthorn coming in
Bad couple of years for drafting coming up, got to strike it big this year
Can't empathize how important that we get our 2 1st's bang on target this year

As a former Bendigonian now living in the Sunshine State I wholeheartedly endorse the views on here that we call out Tara's name with pick 3 on draft night.

I heard Kate Sheehan say we have Trent Mosbey on board as a full time recruiter at the club. He was previously with North so will be well versed in the talent available. Good to see we are taking that space more seriously now after some costly recruiting errors in the past

That should seal the deal then. Kate Sheehan talks briefly about the draft on the website video but no mention of targets. Seemed excited by the talent in the early Vic picks so sounds like we are happy with the depth available

ABOUT THE NAB AFLW DRAFT

• The 2021 NAB AFLW Draft will be held on 27 July 2021. Venue to be announced.
• All players wishing to be considered for selection are required to nominate for the draft by going to womensdraft.afl.com.au between 9am (EST) June 21 and 3pm (EST) July 9, 2021.
• Players are free to nominate for one (1) State or region only. They can nominate any State they choose, however this may have an impact on relocation eligibility. NO relocation allowance or costs will be provided by the AFL or Club to a player who:
• Would not have reasonable need to relocate to their closest Club’s primary training ground (reasonable need to relocate based on a reasonable travel time post training with initial consideration of an hour by motor vehicle); and
• Elects to nominate in a different draft to that AFLW team.
  • An exception to this will be made for players who nominated for their local draft in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft but were not selected and have subsequently decided to nominate in a different State for the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.
• Where the player is eligible, the following relocation costs can be provided as follows:
• Actual costs of the transport of player to the location and return at the end of the players contract, connection of utilities and loan for security deposit.
• Relocation allowance with the following allowable costs:
  • Temporary accommodation of up to four months (temporary accommodation requires active searching for permanent accommodation)
  • Living allowance
  • Removal / storage of household goods
  • Reimbursement for the purchase of essential household goods (maximum payment
  • Reasonable removal costs if the player returns home with the first two years
• Relocation costs as agreed by AFL and AFLPA in the CBA applicable to AFLW players shall be payable by each Club where a player meets the criteria set out above. The agreed relocation entitlement is included under Schedule A, Clause 12 in the AFLW CBA.
• The NAB AFL Draft order is based on reverse 2021 AFLW Competition finishing positions (subject to the trading of draft picks and any compensation draft picks allocated by the AFL through the expansion process).
• Clubs can choose to make selections in the Primary Draft subject to the number of Primary List spots they have available at the commencement of the draft.
• AFLW Clubs will be provided with a full list of draft nominees after nominations have closed, with an update provided following the father-daughter bidding process (see below).

POST DRAFT SELECTON PERIOD

• If a Club elects to keep up to two (2) spots open, they will have from 9am (EDST) 29 July 2021 until 5pm (EDST) on 30 July 2021 to select and advise the AFL of their final Primary Listed player(s).
• Clubs can select players from within their own State or from another State (or overseas), the player must agree.
• Only players who nominated for the 2021 Draft are eligible to be signed.
• Relocation costs as agreed by AFL and AFLPA in the CBA applicable to AFLW players shall be payable by each Club where a player meets the criteria agreed between AFL and AFLPA in the CBA applicable to AFLW players.

FATHER DAUGHTER RULE

• A player may be nominated by an AFLW Club based on the father-daughter rule if their father played at least 1 AFL game for that Club.
• Where relevant an AFLW Club must submit a father-daughter nomination form to the AFL between the 19th – 21st July 2021 (note the player must have separately nominated for the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft).

KEY QUESTIONS/INFORMATION

HOW DO I NOMINATE FOR THE NATIONAL DRAFT?

You must nominate online via womensdraft.afl.com.au

Once the form has been completed online, you will receive an email to alert you the nomination has been approved by the AFL.

PLAYERS ELIGIBLE TO BE DRAFTED

A player who has nominated is eligible to be drafted in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft if she has satisfied the following requirements:

1. The player must have attained, or will attain the age of 18 years, on or before 31 December 2021;
2. The player must not be bound to an AFLW Club; and
3. The player has been:
4. 1. registered continuously from 1 June immediately preceding the NAB AFLW Draft Selection Meeting and has played at least one game in the season immediately preceding the NAB AFLW Draft Selection Meeting in any recognised Club or school football competition in Australia; or
   2. a bona fide resident for a continuous period of three years preceding the NAB AFLW Draft Selection Meeting in a country other than Australia, unless the General Counsel considers that there is a reasonable explanation for the player not having satisfied this item 3 and should nonetheless be eligible to be drafted.

WHAT ARE THE DRAFT REGIONS?

• Victoria (All Victorian Clubs)
• Tasmania (North Melbourne) – must reside in Tasmania
• South Australia (Adelaide Crows)
• Western Australia (Fremantle or West Coast)
• Gold Coast Only (Gold Coast SUNS zone)
• Brisbane Only (Brisbane Lions zone)
• Queensland (Brisbane or Gold Coast SUNS)
• New South Wales (GWS Giants)
• International (all Clubs – only available to Players who normally reside outside of Australia)

IF I AM SELECTED AT THE NAB AFLW DRAFT, AM I BOUND TO THE CLUB THAT SELECTS ME?

Yes, for a period of 8 months (the length of the player contract).

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I’M DRAFTED?

The Club that selects you will be in contact to congratulate you and communicate the next steps, including your induction and training details.

WHAT IS THE POST DRAFT SELECTION PERIOD?

Each Club will have the option to retain up to two (2) spots on its list that can be filled by July 29 2021. This will allow Clubs to consider interstate players that may be willing to move (on their own accord) after not being selected in the draft.

RELOCATION OF INTERSTATE PLAYER

If a player chooses a State to be drafted in that they do not currently reside, there will be no relocation costs covered by either the AFL or the club should their participation require the player to move States.

FATHER-DAUGHTER LISTING

A player can be nominated for a Club based on the father-daughter rule if their father played at least 1 AFL game for the Club.

ABOUT THE NAB AFL WOMEN’S LEAGUE

WHICH CLUBS ARE INVOLVED?

Adelaide, Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle, Geelong, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL GAMES BE PLAYED

The competition will be played from December 2021 through to the first half of 2022, with the final fixture – including format and schedule of games to be released by the end of October.

Players will be required to travel throughout the course of the competition but all reasonable expenses in doing so will be covered by the AFL/AFLW Clubs.

WILL PLAYERS BE REQUIRED TO BE FULL-TIME PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES?

No, you will be part time with access to the best facilities, coaches and player development programs on offer. The training requirements will all be laid out for you in advance and every measure possible will be put in place to avoid any impact on your work or study.
