Is it? Members have paid up memberships for 2 years with minimal footy so that our not for profit club can generate a $1.3m profit?

Could anyone foresee the situation?

If you consider a membership package being worth $400, that's only 3250 members. They also gave away a fair number of free memberships

Perhaps, but pay it forward on this years packages? Even if its $10 a member discount on the package if you're rolling over?

Respectfully, this is a bad take. Not for profit means profit invested in the club. Not that we don’t make profit.

You had a choice about whether you paid your membership this year, with full understanding of the situation and risk.

Very nice result for the club. Not sure how much Gov contributions accounted to the bottom line. But 7 fig stat profit is always nice to see.

Well done, Carlton. Don’t bother digging too deep. This is better people. If it means we can invest in alternative revenue sources than Pokies, that’s growth and opportunity. Just remember where we were.

No disrespect taken. Members are all effectively shareholders who contribute equity into the club each year to keep it afloat. In return members get access to games and other benefits. Whilst the clubs ability to deliver those benefits were constrained, the club has been fortunate to retain such a large paying base under the guise of needing it to avoid significant debt - to see us then turnaround posting a profit with $400k cash in hand feels like a bit of a cop-out after 2 years of unconditional support.

It’s the same for all clubs Slash, whilst we would all have loved to have used our memberships to the full and attend many more games it just wasn’t possible for obvious reasons.
All Clubs do a fantastic job nowadays with the feeling of inclusion, what could have been an absolute and utter disaster for the comp as a whole has just highlighted how engaged the supporters are with their clubs.
To me, it’s money that’s budgeted for that in the end wasn’t used as much as I would like but it’s an expense I’m happy to spend on year after year. Clearly, I’m just one of a very large herd

Giving away free memberships is the wort marketing idea ever. As the result, instead of making it valued you’ve devalued the entire brand.
like when was the last time you ever saw a buy Air Jordan’s and get 1 pair free? Never happens cause Nike value their brand.

I would say the worst marketing idea ever is to actually increase membership fees by more than the CPI or ticketing price increases.

I was once a member of a golf club that increased it's fees by 30% in one year. That club lost over 15% of it's members and four years later was saved from the brink by a local service club, to this day it has not recovered it's past success and is considered a bit of a joke in the golf community in that area.

If we are able to convert one in five of those freebies into full paying members this year we will profit from that move.

Will be very interesting to see our membership numbers for 2022.

I know zip about Air Jordans but would be relatively confident that you would rarely pay full retail price.

In a covid environment and to entice re-signing those free memberships, it's a reasonable marketing ploy

A pair of Nikes could last you 3-5 years, completely different to annual memberships

Fairly narrow minded view of the wort of a membership. Granted not perfect and would be unsustainable as a long term measure but, it got eyeballs on the club.
What if one in three of these members bought merchandise? Wort it? How about the free upgrade a few years back? Wort idea?
Marketing staff market which comes with risk. However, if this idea contributed to greater exposure, it worked and was wort it.
