Also how ******* good is Wil Powell. Kids a superstar in the making. Only 22
Never even got a trial for the WA state team as a junior. Draft commentators had no idea who he was when he was called out. Kid's all heart. included in the list of guys like Touk, Swallow, Witts, Collins who it's clear just bleed for the club. would love to have 10 more of him.

The eagles were trying to hide him, apparently. One of our best bolter picks ever

first one to mind I reckon who could have cracked the top 10 is ben king. other than that, pretty content saying they would be our top 10 most impactful players this year.

I don't buy it but nothing in the AFL would shock me really.

He had to send AFL clubs a home made video of his highlights to try and attract attention towards the end of the season and after the U18 champs. You wouldn't do that if you'd be told to lay low.

They need to introduce a leading goal kicker award. Most clubs have them.

Powell just needs upper body strength and a strong core. He'll get that as time goes by.

Most important part is our young kids playing full seasons out, Bowes, Powell, Ainsworth could barely play the whole season out and now guys like Anderson, King, Lukosius are playing every game

Gap between Miller and Powell larger than Powell and Lukiosus (on votes). Testament to just how good Miller was this year. Also, while Anderson needs to improve consistency, his best games showed he is just about to tip over the edge to genuine gun (saw first hand just how good he can be in round 2 - should take the 3 Brownlow votes that game).

Overall not all doom and gloom for the Suns. Powell, Ballard, Anderson, Lukiosus is some fantastic young talent to finish in the top 10. They'd be hoping next year some of King, Rowell, Ainsworth, or Rankine overtakes Holman (and maybe Lemmens, although they're both underrated role players) which would show growth in their flag potential players. Nothing against the senior guys, just that King, Rowell etc are the ones with champion potential.
In that event I can see 9-10 wins and persistence with Dew. Will pay off long term.

Would love to see how many Fiorini finished on in half a season

It should also be pointed out that Powell was secured with the pick 19 we received in return for sending a 33 year old Ablett home to Geelong. So although we were disappointed when Ablett left, we were able to use the situation to our advantage and secure a real goer in Wil Powell. If you believe the rumours of West Coast's interest in Powell, then perhaps the Eagles may drafted him two selections later with their pick 21 and we wouldn't have got him if we had not traded with Geelong. Now it's 2021 and Ablett has retired without any more Premierships to his name while Powell looks set to have a big career for us. This is a prime example of not being able to properly assess a trade until years into the future.

Imagine if we'd kept 2 and managed to bring in Brayshaw as well.

Brayshaw, Powell and Ballard from one draft would have been so impressive

We weren't going to select Brayshaw though. We were keen on Luke Davies-Uniacke at the time.

Also, the pick 2 trade with Fremantle gave us the pick 42 we used to secure Ballard so it's possible Charlie wouldn't be with us either if we had not done that trade.

We drafted Nick Holman out of the SANFL that year too which probably deserves a mention. Pretty good draft haul as is.

Correct; I still watch Davies-Uniacke closely till this day.

There's no evidence we were going to go LDU > Brayshaw, only us here on big footy saying we were hoping we would. Given Brayshaw was considered a leader with a real willingness to move interstate and had no go-home factor I would be shocked if we didn't go Brayshaw at 2.

Swallow has always bled for this club, but to see speeches like that from Powell and Miller, and the way they talk about the club, other players and coaches is very inspiring. If those three, plus the likes of Collins, Witts, Greenwood etc. are pushing forward and the young players (like King, Luko and Sharp) follow, or those same young players are pushing the senior boys to be better—then who knows what they can achieve.

Ah, the off-season got me hopeful again… Dammit.
