This comes with success though - Lions are on an upward curve, circa 2003. They drop off again, and it will vanish. Queensland was ever thus

Been here 12 years now, footy has grown massively in that time here at grassroots (especially women and juniors) and just in general interest, even prior to the recent Lions resurgence. There are also a lot of people here who don't follow the Lions. A lot of expats or people who have chosen to follow teams other than the Lions, VFL was beamed live into QLD in the 70s & 80s I've been told. Quite common among my social group. No doubt there will be ebbs and flows as the Lions are good and bad, but footy is very healthy here.

Interesting fact. The Port game last night rated 90k in Adelaide. The Brisbane game rated 84k in Brisbane. Given the variances in Fox TV ratings, its possible that more people watched the lions match in Queensland than those watching the port match in Adelaide.

What success have the Lions had since 2003? One grand final appearance in 17 years. Quite an understatement to describe a 55-143 win-loss record as merely a drop off. No reason to expect such an extended poor run will ever happen again, presuming one has any confidence in the AFL's equalisation measures. And I can't think of a like-for-like example in which a team's supporters stayed the course as persistently.

If, as a totally random example, the Melbourne Storm (whose worst nine-year H&A stretch is 128-88, 59%) go 27% for the best part of a decade, then we'll see something more like the true meaning of vanish.

You can't trust what comes out of his mouth at all - but Morrison said in his latest press conference about how great everything is going* that national cabinet agreed to return all large venues to 100% capacity.

Not sure when this is to take effect.

*Except for everything actually under the control of the Fed Govt and not the states.

Just in time for WC v Collingwood next week. Wonder if it'll take the title of 'biggest crowd since covid' briefly until the two Anzac games the following week go better again.
yep probably. unless some security guard/hotel cleaner/medical worker gets the virus in the next few weeks.
everytime we have had zero internal border restrictions, or made progress like this, it happens. every. time.

33,742 in Adelaide. Biggest Adelaide crowd for the year with the 75% restrictions but presumably the Crows will get that next week comfortably with 100% available

587K last night....perhaps slightly unders particularly in Victoria with only 287K

31K in Sydney (Storm would be happy with that in Melbourne 😉 ) and 45K in Brisbane

NRL only 352K Metro for 2 premiership fancies

Edit: Update, over 1 million with regionals and foxtel box

NRL a bit of 800K all up

The A League bounces back with a 13K average this week 🤣🤣
