Squiggle tips Demons at 77% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
Dude, I think it's been like it for 3 years!
So you draft the full 14 players that all will start. If a player of yours ends up injured, even just out for a week, or suspended, or on a bye week, you struggle with the option whether to cut the player and claim someone else to start. Having a full 14 players playing gives you the best chance to win week to week, as the league is very even, playoff spots on line, can't afford to drop a game. But, if you drop a star player, someone else will happily snaffle him up in waivers, take the zero score he will give that week. Some people have like 4 or 5 bye players for a week, and just think it's better to take the loss that week, than dropping a star player. Another thing to make it hard, is if you make a waiver claim you go to the end of the line for the next waiver round. So, often, people don't make waiver claims most of the year until they get to the top of the list, hopefully that coincides with one of your star players having a bye week, so you can cut him that week, knowing you can claim him again the following week. Hence the name CUTTHROAT.....on many levels, it's a bloodbath, people clamoring for a higher waiver spot, people sharking released star players on waivers, the fight for a playoff spot is always tooth and nail, like four or more people trying to get that last wildcard spot. And because standings ties are broken by H2H, often it ends up that week when someone played a bunch of bye players and lost to someone else, ends up missing the playoff spot due to that. Not always, but often. Many different draft, waivers, and management strategies that make it very cutthroat
You start 14 players. Your roster is made up of 14 players. There are no bench players. So what happens if one of your players gets injured, or is on a bye week? Do you hold onto him, cop the 0 score he will give you that week he's out? Or do you cut him, grab another player in FA who is playing that week, who can give you more than 0 pts for that week? What happens if you have 3 or 4 players that week who are injured and/or on bye week? Do you hold onto them all? Or cut all or most of them? What if 3 or 4 players are out injured for 2-4 weeks?Online there's talk about stealing players from each other each week etc but I haven't found a site that clearly explains how cut-throat works, GG.exe pretend you are talking to a 5yo
You play other fantasy comps, right? Imagine those leagues had zero bench, zero IR. Imagine what you would have to do to field 14 starters each week. What would you do if some of them got injured, and you knew there was no bench and no IR section? What are you gonna do? Eg, Christian McCaffery is your starting RB. He gets injured week 4 and is gonna be out for 3 weeks. You can't bench him, you can't IR him. All you can do is either keep him at the RB starting slot, where he'll score 0 pts that week, and for the next 3 weeks. Or....you could cut him to FA, and grab some other RB in FA, like say, Morstert, and put him at the RB slot for the next 3 weeks. All the while, McCaffery is now a FA, you don't own him anymore because you released him. But everyone knows he's gonna be out for 3 weeks. So maybe someone out there in the league decides they'll claim him on waivers right away, and start him at RB for the next three weeks, getting a 0 score each week, he doesn't care, cos when he does come back from injury he'll start scoring 30 pts a week for him. Or maybe most of the league will wait two more weeks before someone tries to claim him in waivers.Online there's talk about stealing players from each other each week etc but I haven't found a site that clearly explains how cut-throat works, GG.exe pretend you are talking to a 5yo

Waiver wire period in fantasy opens usually right after MNF finishes. For two days people are able to put in claims for players. When Thursday (Australian time) comes, the site generates the results of the waiver claims, handing out the players people made claims on. Once that happens, Free Agency now opens. That means all FAs are now unlocked. People can now jump in and just grab players for "free", meaning it won't cost you a waiver wire claim. They're unlocked, it's a free for all, whoevers online at the time can jump in and grab a player. Players stay unlocked until their NFL game starts. Then they auto-lock until MNF finishes. Thanks GG.exe, just to clarify, if you drop a player are you able to select him again if he becomes available? Is there a free agency cap?
