I was keen on Milera early on but I think WaynesWorld19 mention in one of the other threads that there are still big question marks over his fitness ... am I remembering that right, Wayne?
Correct ....I have him currently at D5, but still in the rehab group ....I'm more concerned, injury wise, with Milera than I am Doedee, and his 2021 role is still undefined

But at $300K I'll give Milera right up until the starting gate to sway me towards picking him .....some 3 months away

They didn't give Milera a 5 year Contract this year because he can't play

So what position do you think he will play Wayne? When he does play he seems to be moved around a bit trying to find the best fit?

Best guess ..... Half Back and thru midfield

We have the inside mids, but not the run & carry players that Milera is

Milera is probably the best kick behind Scholl

He suffered from “ the camp” saga ... like to think that’s in the past now

As far as I'm concerned Whitfield and Laird are locks.

Lloyd is a great option if you can afford to start him albeit a bit overpriced imo.

Stewart is a super safe and reasonably priced pick to average 100 imo.

Luke McDonald could be Lloyd 2.0, if he's definitely gonna play the same role as he did in the back end of last season then he's a lock.

Zac Williams is only worth considering if he's playing in the midfield, he's at a very appealing price but honestly I said never again after how crap he was for me last season. But if hes playing midfield in preseason and tearing it up and everyone's picking him then I may well do so myself too.

I'll probably start with 3-4 of the above.

Williams interests me because he is now at Carlton. And Carlton are on the way up and GWS are not.

Lloyd, Laird and Daniel are locked in for me. Don't like going so heavy in the backline, but I can't look past them.

Lloyd is Lloyd, the lord of the seagulls, more game time = more points for him
Laird is an accumulator, back to 20 min quarters will help, plus he's now a gun mid who loves a contested ball and tackle
Daniel is Mr Kick, he's going to rack up big numbers down back for the Dogs

4th spot still unknown, depends on where the playing rookies are. I think Zilliams will do well, I also think Milera is a good pick at his price, assuming he flies through the preseason. Might just load up on rookies after those 3 studs if they are available. We'll see...

My issue with Daniel is that he's a really, really bad defender. Like, probably the worst getting regular games in the league. He's an absolute liability down there and opposition teams play through his man regularly.

This doesn't affect his SC scores in and of itself. The problem is the risk that he becomes too much of a liability down there, and gets moved into a less SC friendly role (which if I was signed as the Bulldogs coach tomorrow would be one of the first changes I would make).

so where do you rate the Gull as a defender?

Other concern is that he started to get tagged later in the season and was moved forward.

Didn’t affect his scoring considerably, not enough trend data to go much further with that argument either.

Has Daniel maxed out in SC .... are we paying a high price for a player with little scoring growth potential ?

Potentially, but you’re also paying for his consistency.
I’ve thrown Laird into the midfield for now, so i can get Docherty

Thoughts on his upside for 2021 .... IMO too good to be a 92 ave player again

Looks like he petered out as the season progresses ..... the year after a knee reco is normally a struggle for most players ... hoping 2 years on he’s back to his best

Nothing wrong starting with Doc imo.

He is the no.1 target to get tagged in the backline though.

I'm going Williams instead.

Just remember he did have an operation just last month to remove a testicular tumour I wouldn't be expecting him to be 100% at the start of the season.

Williams and Saad could potentially limit his scoring but it may also free him up with attention going to them.

Will he lose kick outs? Could cost him 5-10 points a game.

Great player though, expecting him to respond.

He played a lot of games in the wet and dew last year which I don’t think suited him.

I reckon Doc will take the kick outs but all the attention will still go to him regardless of the additions of Williams and Sadd.

They come back Wed Jan 6th

Docherty's operation was on Nov 6th so he will have had exactly 2 months worth of recovery time before he's due to start training again.

"Having now had the surgery, I'm grateful to hear that I'm expected to make a full recovery and will be able to resume training in four to six weeks' time."

He should be fine for Rd1 A Bit Dusty

Daniel's role is play maker, not small defender.

Obviously. And he's very good at it. But is he good enough at it to counteract how bad he is at the other aspects of playing in the backline? I don't think he is. Luke Beveridge evidently disagrees. For now at least.
