Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.
Done ✔️

Cats will come back on the Cegs deal. They need to. The ruck position is their weakness and there is only Ceglar in play. Its their window and they haven't improved their list this trade period.
They will pay up because they must

I thought it was pretty certain to be happening. Have I missed something from today suggesting Geelong are second guessing it?

It's just all business

Yet despite how it looks, former Hawks champion Shane Crawford says it's just business as usual for the front office at Waverly Park.

“Ever since ‘Clarko’ (Clarkson) took over, at the end of the year he would virtually sit everyone down and say everyone’s on the trade table,” Crawford told Garry and Tim on SEN.

“If there’s a deal we can do that’s best for this football club because that’s the number one priority, we have to do it.

“That would be no different with what’s happening with Hawthorn right now and they would go back to those players each day if they come up in conversation and they’d ring them and say listen, your name’s come up.

“We’re not doing anything but your name’s come up.

“So at the moment, it seems like Hawthorn’s turned against their senior type players, (but) they’re just looking after what’s best for the football club moving forward if there’s something there.”

I would try get the deal done with Collingwood directly for Lynch, maybe pick 56.

Then demand pick 34 for Ceglar from Geelong or they can go out and find us a pick between 35-40.
I believe Ceglar to be worth around pick 45, but if we are paying a chunk of his salary, that has to bring it down 5-10picks surely.

Having 4 ruckman on the list next year is probably needed anyway, with Ceglar being number 4 and the other 3, playing around 12-16 games each rotating.

You make some excellent points but would you then say draftees can only be drafted by clubs into their home state ? Of course not, but where is the difference when an older more mature player with security and more lucrative contract is asked to move state ? There are some real obstacles for clubs to build a list that would be removed if players could be traded without consent, but I do appreciate what you're saying about the mental health aspect.

It's such a complex issue and I think I could happily argue either side. In the end I come down on the individual player's side because they are a person with feelings and their wellbeing is the biggest potential harm. The big organisation that is a football club will move on and very likely the non-trade will be less than a footnote in history. As I say though, I can absolutely see the other arguement.

Btw, I think being drafted is a little different because it is not playing at one club vs playing at another, it is mostly playing at an AFL club or not playing in the AFL. Kids nominate for the draft knowing that they could go interstate. They even have the option of making some statements about how they feel about moving interstate.

Nobody has cap space mate, you'd have to pay all of the salary not just a bit. Tigers and Brisbane have committed to the draft. Only stupid journos keep bringing up the Mitchell to Richmond and Gunston to Brisbane links. Omeara to Freo might be the only plausible one if he is prepared to go home to WA. They have cap space.
Don’t take it personally. I’m more making reference to the constant barrage we’ve copped for not trading out our guns (which according to the journos we don’t have any) for future fourth rounders and paying all their salary too.

Yeah, can't fault the clubs intent over trade period, but it's looking like a pretty disappointing result sadly.

Sam will need to work out a way in which O'Meara, even Mitchell, can spend time impacting away from the midfield in 2022. Something we haven't seen either capable of doing before.

Not being able to organise a salary dump for that Gold Coast bloke or someone else is the most disappointing aspect so far. Given everyone's battling a tight cap you'd have thought that was our best bet

Trade period ends at 730.
Most of the trades would already be done well in advance (even if the league pretends it doesn't happen)
It is then deliberately filtered to keep the afl in the news.
A few years ago fox footy even had a 2 hr special leading to the end of trade period)

Years of service have to play a part.

We could get 7-8 years out of Lynch if he becomes a player.
Geelong surely can't get more than 2 out of Cegs.

I'm okay with it. I'm of the opinion that we need Lynch on our rebuilding list more than Ceglar right now. That need has to be considered when negotiating and accepting deals.

Yeah I understand that, but at the end of the day Lynch has played 3 games and is 23 years old.

I'd say that says more about our lack of desire to get McPherson. If we wanted him that badly we would get him but obviously we don't
