Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.
Done ✔️

depth and demographic of the list is good. Just need draft in some class on top of that.

trading futures compromises next years draft, so now it’s a combo of the draft, next years draft the psd, rookie draft, mid season and how it fits and the talent which we have identified

Yep, was a bit tongue in cheek re winning finals but having older boys to set training standards and support younger guys is important. Otherwise it’s the blind leading the blind like GC

If we don’t think we’ll get a player ranked in our top 15 or so at pick 21/24 I’d love to see us trade that for a first rounder next year (to Lions or Bombers for example)

Hard to improve your draft hand when none of your players with currency want to be traded to the clubs that offered deals.
This is what I struggle to come to terms with - the AFL landscape has a lot of maturing to do and players have way too much power. So basically another year where we've had to half bake our rebuild in order to accommodate a couple of individual players. AFL clubs need to follow in the footsteps of International sporting codes and become a lot more ruthless with player movement. The sooner they do this, the better off all clubs will be.

I don’t get the angst. We don’t need an 30+ back up ruck. We traded him in for a younger version plus or minus some inconsequential draft picks. Honest and good clubman but cegs wouldn’t be best 22 next year. Good for him, good for us.

Our established players don’t want to leave - is that a bad thing? And if we weren’t getting top 10 (effectively 12 with FS) then I’m not sure you’d want to do it anyway?

I’m not sure historically picks in the late first round are any better than early 2nd round. Someone can do the analysis but it’s all a bit of a lottery after the first handful, particularly when the kids haven’t played much last couple of years.

we have pick 5 plus two others that are early enough to find something. That is our main game this year.

Biggest take away from this trade period:
Our list is INVESTED in what is to come.
Really exciting that so many senior players want to stick around and see us through to our next period of success, however that may look!
This was the key for me. Culture. The big dogs wanted to stay when push came to shove. Tells you we're all on the same page.

Btw, it's not over. You can still trade picks in advance and on the night obviously.

On to the draft. WB pick 23 and the pies pick 27 will be up for grabs for point upgrades you’d imagine.
wouldn’t be shocked if Adelaide were prepared to trade out pick 4 to strengthen their hand next year for their likely pursuit of Lukosious and Rankine. Obviously we couldn’t be involved in that without our future 1st being included.

Completely average trade period for us.

On face value the squad is a little weaker in the short and potentially long term (based on Lynch's development).

But much more importantly - we didn't improve our draft hand.
Blame GWS. 😅

For whatever reason players at a bottom 4 club don't want to go to a club that supposedly in it's window.

Looking forward to seeing Breust and Gunston continue their careers at Hawthorn for the 14th and 10th season respectively.

819 goals combined and counting. :D

But you are still using your own picks to do that.

Getting another first rounder this year, by say trading our first next year isn't a win IMO. It's just like buy now pay later really.

I guess we could look to package our two picks in the 20s to move up, but then we are taking two kids instead of three in the top 25.

The fact we didnt have a host of senior players running to the hills says volumes to me.
I think they will be highly motivated and play well next season.

Wouldnt have minded another early pick , but prefer the above rather than force someone out .

Im sure the media narrative will be the opposite 🙂

I'd like to keep the pick. But depends on what you get and where you predict you finish next year.
With JOM, Tom, Jack, Chad, Luke all still with us, and Sic, Day, Imp and CJ all coming into the side that played the last month, we will be having a really hard look at trading our first now, surely.

Yeah I'm not overly interested in just "playing well" or making a finals appearance with no realistic chance of winning the big dance. What I am interested in, is building a list to win a premiership. Due to players calling the shots, it has once again affected our ability to really fast track that process.

Also have to think that these vic kids next year haven't played footy in two years and the best interstate kids are either F/S, academy or not great. I'd rather package 24+future first for another top 8 pick, ideally Crows or GC but probably Freo.

Very happy we didnt trade out any of our elite players.
Wish all the best for Cegs.
Cannot believe the Cats bringing in another 30 year old.
Scot is one of the best con artists I have come across (hear he is looking over another 2 year deal).

Love this.
Think we’ll be open to splitting pick 5 on the night. If we can turn 5 and 24 into 7 and 15 and still get the player we want that’s worth considering. Looks like two is off the table. Disappointed not to acquire additional picks but development is just as important. Nail the picks, develop them right and we can bridge the gap with the better teams.
Can’t wait for Sicily to come back next year. Our back half will be exciting.

Cornes, Barrett and Ralph must all be really pissed off at the moment. Over a dozen written articles throughout the week and none of the crap they were spewing ever eventuated. 😂
I'm sure we'll see articles on how we shat the bed, how our players will leave at 1st chance due to our treatment of them this week and how we are doomed for the next 10 years. Of course, they could see it all coming.
