Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.
Done ✔️

This was the key for me. Culture. The big dogs wanted to stay when push came to shove. Tells you we're all on the same page.

Btw, it's not over. You can still trade picks in advance and on the night obviously.
Culture. Definitely a key. Trade period can get so hung up on 1-10 draft order but a good culture and good coach can turn a 10-25 player into Top 10 quality. Top 10 is based on untried kids coming from a do-as-you-please environment. Put them in the wrong environment, e.g. GWS or Gold Coast and that magic can get wasted.

Good trade period. Lost little and showed the current crop is invested in the future of the club. Culture.

For all the media hysteria, the stories of fractures within the group and the angst of certain players being unhappy, this trade period was fantastic. It proved the media have no idea and just make shit up.

Team is in a good place moving forward. Bring on the draft.

Yeah I'm not overly interested in just "playing well" or making a finals appearance with no realistic chance of winning the big dance. What I am interested in, is building a list to win a premiership. Due to players calling the shots, it has once again affected our ability to really fast track that process.
You can rebuild and compile a premiership list while playing experienced players .
We have good draft picks and we have drafted well recently .

I mean how dare contracted players want to hang around ?

If we’re rating the winners and losers of draft week, I’m rating the media the biggest loser.. Truly diabolical. Cornes, King and Barrett and others have become literally unbearable with their agendas and sensationalism.. It really turns me off the game.. Just got tune out from the absolute crap they spin.

It's called wanting to keep a contract you've signed, and stay at the club you signed with.

How dare they have that right?

personally, I'll take 'we're in it together" culture ahead of 'everyone is just a pawn" everytime

Blame GWS. 😅

For whatever reason players at a bottom 4 club don't want to go to a club that supposedly in it's window.

Yah I'm not blaming McKenzie or the club in general, if the players don't want to move then so be it. But the fact remains we didn't have a very good trade period.

This is what I struggle to come to terms with - the AFL landscape has a lot of maturing to do and players have way too much power. So basically another year where we've had to half bake our rebuild in order to accommodate a couple of individual players. AFL clubs need to follow in the footsteps of International sporting codes and become a lot more ruthless with player movement. The sooner they do this, the better off all clubs will be.

Except Hawthorn are trying to offload players they moved heaven and earth to get - JOM, Mitchell, Wingard. Hawthorn went and got these guys, they are entitled to serve out their contracts.

In the last two off seasons we have exited one way or another experienced players in TOB, ceglar, Stratton, poppy, hendo, smith, Burgoyne, scully, plus others.

We’ve kept gunston, breust and mcevoy as 30+ and blooded plenty who look to have the goods.

that’s pretty aggressive but balanced. I’m pretty happy with the progress. We just need to find a superstar or two to take it to the next level beyond natural growth and development.

Not the case at all actually...I'm very empathetic, which anyone who knows me, particularly my family, would vouch for..
I suggest, play the ball, not the man. I simply have a different opinion to you, but I do appreciate you have experience as a counter argument.
As I said.

No empathy.

I was initially a little disappointed that we didn't trade 1-2 of our senior players for first round draft picks.

But then I was excited to realise we have the following players who have played 11 games (and under) or who we have yet to debut:

Brockman
Bramble
Newcombe
Reeves
DGB
Jeka
Callow
Finn
Downie
Seamus
Pick 5
Pick 21
Pick 24

This list doesn't even include other youngsters like Day, Scrimshaw, Kosi, CJ, Moore and so on and so forth. Heck, I'm even excited to see what Nash can achieve under Sammy's direction.

Our rebuild isn't starting next year folks.

It has well and truly been on foot already!

okay bro I'm gonna need to test your references on this

give me your first girlfriend's phone number and i will perform the due diligence required

in fact, give me the numbers of all your ex-girlfriends, just to make sure

This thread is a LOL-fest.

With the amount of shit that’s been posted by opposition posters throughout the whole week, I can’t help but think of this little gem. :D

First of all, it's not like clubs were offering top 10 picks for our players, if they were and we passed on it, then I can understand the disappointment and angst! The club rates the big 3 ( Jaeger, Tom Chad) and Breust didn't want a bar of it so it would've been awful for us to ship them off for low gains and against players will. Day and Dallas are still raw and kids , add a top 5 midfield gun and you're well on your way to improving. The most important thing here is that the likes of Chad, Tom, Jaeger pull their fingers out and have a FULL consistent seasons instead of 'some' good games at the end of the season. Still have jack , Sicily, Impey to comback in and hopefully Finn and Downie become regular senior players. Bramble, Lewis, jiath, kozzi and jai also excite me. Trading out a future first or pairing 21&24 to move up this year's Draft is still a chance.
Now, how do we get one of Ward, Hobbs or Callaghan?

UNLEASH THE SEAMUS!!

It's been a pretty poor trade period to be honest mate.

Can't fault the intent, but to walk away without an extra first, let alone an extra top 10 pick, is really disappointing and not what the club would have expected.

At the end of the day, there just wasn't enough interest from other clubs. Especially Victorian based.

Blerg.
Hopefully the players speculated on take the perceived lack off interest from rivals as a bit of a slap to the face and under a new game plan that we all can enjoy playing and watching we could be in for an interesting year.

sure I would have loved to have traded out one or two of our midfield but we haven’t so we have what we have, looking forward to the different midfield combos we will go with. Exciting times ahead, need to nail this draft though pace pace pace with skill would be lovely.
