Playing Ceglar isn’t the way forward for us. He is 30 and he definitely doesn’t fall into the worth of the second rounder range. Is the better alternative for us honestly to just keep him on the list taking games away from players we need to give experience to,

Losing chad or Bruest for an upgrade of pick 24 by eleven places (half of which we lost with meaningless wins) does not sound like a good deal.

13-24 range of picks - anything could happen in the draft (or draft trading - future picks etc)

Need to whip out that table that some punter on bigfooty made that corresponds amount of games with draft pick number.. its pretty telling that it becames an absolute crapshoot after a certain point - it was fairly early on as well from memory.

So we've essentially traded,

Ceglar (+ ~200k) + 3rd rounder (Hawks, 2022) + 4th rounder (Hawks, 2022)

for

Lynch + 3rd rounder (Freo, 2022) + 4th rounder (Suns, 2022)

We needed to be bolder and accelerate this re-build. Very disappointing.

I was up for boldness but and deal has to suit both parties. We had range values for players no doubt, we probably offered some $s to facilitate but if nobody comes near the range we can't really do much.
Players are valuable to us so it would be remiss to weaken ourselves further just to do something. As we have seen with MSD and PSD there are other ways.

A lot of hate for Ceglar on this board, but in the grand scheme of things he is capable of far better football than Darcy Fort. His best is very good... let's hope Geelong aren't able to bring it out of him more often than we were.

That said, it was a mistake to re-sign him for 3 years way back when. Should have made the move while he had better value.

Getting the third rounder back allows us some more flexibility to make some draft night moves if a player we're after is available at a certain point, much the same as we did to get Brockman last season, and for Kosi 2 years prior.

There’s that word again - HATE. It’s not hate, we just don’t rate him. I’m still in disbelief that we shipped off Pittonet (after 6 years of development) and gave Ceglar 3 years.

Brisbane were interested and would have given up a decent pick but we punted Pittonet instead for peanuts - shocking decision

So in the end we had to practically give him away just to bring in a younger ruckmen with a potentially higher ceiling. SM and MM doing their best to fix up Clarkson and GW’s stuff ups
