Ex-AFL players seeking new homes and fresh starts, NAB League prospects out to make their mark at the highest level, hopefuls from the state leagues and even local footballers are among the list of nominations for this year’s AFL national draft.
Nominations close at 3pm today.

As of Monday morning, 717 players had put their names forward to the AFL, including former Blue Levi Casboult and delisted Tiger Patrick Naish, who has been linked with St Kilda.

Four-time Werribee VFL best and fairest Matt Hanson has also lodged his form.
Zdenek Hostalek, 27, who played three senior games for Tooleybuc Manangatang in the Central Murray league this year also took the time to fill out the paperwork.

WA Draft Prospects for 2021:
* = state academy
**= National and State Academy

Jacob Van Rooyen (Claremont, Key Forward)** - Not much more that can be said that hasn’t already, one of the top key forwards of this draft crop.

Talon Delacey (Claremont, Versatile midfielder) - Recently moved up to Perth, 2002 born. Dangerously quick midfielder who can play on the inside or outside, recently kicked 4 in an intraclub from the midfield.

Kieran Gowdie (Claremont, Ruck) - Another 2002 born, a big bodied hard hitting mid who has done a lot of work on his fitness in the off season, will be joining Talon in that tigers midfield.

Kalin Lane (Claremont, Ruck) - 2001 born, mentioned a lot in 2020. Has stacked on to reach 100kg and will be pushing to play with the big boys in 2021, has the ability to be a mature age selection this year and for years to come (granted he doesn’t get picked up).

Jack Avery (Claremont, Half Back) - Big enough to play as a key defender and another spoken about towards the end of 2020, Avery has also stacked on the size to reach over 90kg’s. Accrues a lot of the footy.

Dallas McAdam (Claremont, versatile small forward) - Can play high or deep in the forward line, has moved back home away from Perth since the preseason started. Was at Perth Demons in 2020.

Matthew Johnson (Subiaco, Inside Mid)** - SO SO SO UNDERRATED. I will be shocked if he doesn’t go top 10. Has the perfect build for the AFL has the best skills of any midfielder I’ve seen from WA in some some time. Has the potential to play league all season and be a number one pick candidate.

Neil Erasmus (Subiaco, Centre Half Forward)* - Has the talent but needs to screw his head on a little tighter, will be one to watch.

Richard Farmer (Subiaco, Small Forward) - Will need to step up but has the potential to be a Smokey in 2021, fitness is a concern.

Campbell Henderson (Subiaco, Key Defender) - Not much spoken about, Henderson has the build to be at best a late first/early second round, will be a Smokey to watch throughout the year.

Rhett Bazzo (Swan Districts, Key Defender)** - Top 10 prospect, one of if not the best key defenders in 2021.

Max Chipper (Swan Districts, Versatile Midfielder)* - Can play in the guts or on the wing, would be in the second round as it stands. Very clean and does the basics well.

Luke Taylor (Swan Districts, Key Forward) - Brother of Sam Taylor, a lot of potential, but needs a little work. Another Smokey to watch.

Antonio Dadaliaris (Swan Districts, Half Back) - Not entirely sure, running half back, will be interesting to watch him in 2021.

Luke Polson (Peel Thunder, Key Forward) * - A bit like Joel Jeffrey of this draft, a tall with electric and silky skills, can pitch hit in the ruck.

Jaiden Hunter (Perth Demons, Key Defender/Ruck) - Unlucky in 2020, if he can get a full season down back, and shine he could be a good shout for 2021, has continued to put good weight on and will be looking to break into the league side in 2021.

Taj Hewitt (Perth Demons, medium defender) - Well built, has worked hard throughout preseason. Needs to work on speed and disposal, but with a good first half of the season will be right in the conversation.

Oscar Armstrong (South Fremantle, Key Forward)* - Another who needs to firm his focus and determination but has all the required elements. Will be an interesting player to watch this year.

Jermaine Pickett (South Fremantle, Outside midfielder/half forward) - Silky player, can work on endurance but dangerous on his day.

Jesse Motlop (South Fremantle, Small Forward)* - One of those players who won’t be involved a lot, but has the opportunity to break a game open when he does get the footy.

Lachlan Turley (South Fremantle, Key Defender) *- Highly rated amongst his peers, not much spoken about but will be an interesting watch as the black swans look for a partner for Rhett Bazzo down back.

Riley Colborne (South Fremantle, Outside Utility) - A versatile player on either flank or the wing, not too sure where he will set up permanently)

Mitch Brown (South Fremantle, Balanced Midfielder)* - Can play on the inside or outside, has all the ability, needs to work on his goal threat but has the potential.

Josh Browne (East Fremantle, Balanced Mid/Half Back)* - Can work on speed and endurance to solidify his spot in the midfield, better off on the outside. Very strong disposal, athleticism is the only concern.

Jack Williams (East Fremantle, Key Forward)** - One of the better, more underrated key forwards of this draft. Well built for the 1 on 1 contest, and will be pushing the top 10 with some good performances.

Richard Bartlett (East Fremantle, Small Forward)* - Missed the back end of last season, can pinch hit in the midfield and another who shows his talent in glimpses. If he can find some consistency will be one to watch.

Judd McVee (East Fremantle, Inside Mid)* - Laid down the foundations last year for a big year this season, has learnt off some very impressive players in recent years at East Freo. Very well rounded mid who will remain consistent.

Corey Warner (East Fremantle, Balanced Mid) - The one I’m most excited for in 2021, brother of Sydney’s Chad Warner, has similar traits, almost like a blend between his brother and Jeremy sharp. Can be that bullish mid or that silky smooth mover, really excited to see how he fares this year.

Lochie Paton (West Perth, Midfielder/Forward)* - An exciting prospect, has a lot of upside. Has the potential to light it up and push for first round even top ten selection, strong goal threat and if he can increase his disposal will be a dangerous player.

Kade Dittmar (East Perth, Inside Mid) * - The Royal’s best prospect for 2021, not entirely sure on strengths and weakness but will be pushing to be in WA’s best midfield collective.

Ethan Regan *, Jye Amiss *, Riley May (East Perth) - Wasn’t able to get all too much on theeast perth boys unfortunately, hopefully can provide some more information in the future

Yeah one half of me wants the crows not finish bottom four so they can’t get any of them. Then the other says screw em
Any top 10 pick this year is going to get you a really high level prospect to be fair, even if they miss on Horne they'll be in the Draper and Roberts range, not the same level but you're not complaining with them

WA Draft Prospects for 2021:
* = state academy

Love the Polson mention, he's been on my radar for a while and I'm a big fan

McAdam is a 2022 prospect I believe, last time I checked he was at least

Whats he like ? Size weight and plays like

Tigers are going to be in need of a KPF and have 2 x 1st rounders in 2021 (cats & Tigers picks )

Might he be the type to become our Jack Riewoldt replacement s looking like JVR & Bazzo most likely gone top 15

195 cm utility, he's a unique talent in that he moves really well, can play anywhere on the ground and is really skillful, kind of like a less consistent Luke Jackson. I originally didn't see him as someone who could play back in the ruck but going back on notes as well as seeing someone like Jackson star in multiple positions, but I think he could be a great pinch hitter.

I worry that he hasn't starred in too many games however. He hasn't had one completely amazing game that's blown me away yet and he hasn't exactly dominated in his u17 year. He's probably on the lower end of the WA State Academy at the moment, but he's someone that I think could be drafted off upside

Question: Is the public allowed for nab league games? Say at RSEA park or Preston Oval type places?
I'd hope so otherwise I've been breaking the law for 5 odd weeks 😂

Sounds a bit like Alir Alir

Thanks. I just wasn't sure, in general. I've never been but I want to watch some oakleigh chargers games live this season.
Would be hard to police soI reckon there won’t be any issues going. However you never know these days!

I have very little idea so maybe google it.

Fwiw I also want to watch the chargers.

Are they supposed to be good this year? They have been stacked recently

Hopefully! They usually do perform pretty well year on year. But apart from Nick Daicos and Dib, I've no idea who they have in their squad. I haven't seen anywhere its' been announced? Closer to the start of the season hopefully, which isn't too far away.

The mid season draft is going to be very interesting, will be a fair amount of talent available.

which are the players most likely?
I can easily see a clubs making calls to retire players early in order to get their hands on the best available.

Every club will have a squad of 40, only one club so far has a bottom ager in their squad with many squads stacked with 19 year olds.
