I'd love North to select Darcy at #1 (following Beveridge's comments the other day) and then Daicos at #2. Actually makes some sense given they are more in need of tall talent.

Assuming we finish last, I would hope we strongarm the dogs into getting their first. Say pick 20 for their first, say 17, and we promise to bid on daicos at 1 and then take Horne at 2.

Nah, I think you have to set the par at beating Hawks and North.

Pick 2 would be nice, but those are potentially catastrophic losses at this point for a young group seeing they are a pair of pathetic teams at home.

The good thing about GCS finding a bit of form is it makes a 7 win, pick 4 season more likely.

Seeing the game against Essendon, the strategy is in play.

Coaching group instruct a first half of circle work, high possession game.

Move Murray forward because he was beating his opponent and Frampton was rubbish at both ends.


Then limit 66 interchanges to ensure the players don't have enough energy to mount a come back and in fact cause a blow out. A nine day break to follow to allow rehab from such an energy sapping game.


Percentage drops from 84.4 to 80.8. Only 0.1 above Hawthorn.



Of course this isn't tanking though.

Just a coaching group using game time for a young group to try different strategies/game style, play different roles and stay out there for game time/experience.

Difference is timing. We lost to North at 0-9 and with a relatively old squad (for a rebuild at any rate), and away from home. Now? We're the youngest in the league, we're slumping and North is a worse team. A very different scenario.

We know they can win, but it's a different barrel of fish when there is the expectation to do so, and the safety net of a competitive loss has been removed. North and Hawks are really primed to be the taster for that for this group.

The best result for us is a 7 win, pick 4 season and it's looking set up to be that kind of year.

Having watched Horne yesterday, I honestly think he is a must get. The kid is elite. To this end, is it too much to transfer our pick (which I assume will be 2...4 after father-son) to North, plus Crouch?

There's probably a strong chance our first pick becomes better than GWS(Coll)'s. If GWS don't really have a need to draft anyone in the top-8 (ex-bids) since they have their own r1 pick likely around 10, they could trade into next year maybe for our r1 pick.
