After this year we probably have 17 players taken inside top 30 since Milera.
While we question the development we have managed to get Keays, Butts, Murphy, Murray out of the rookie or supplementary in that time.
Just before that Kelly, Obrien, Keith, Greenwood not going to include Laird.

In many cases our rookies are coming on better than our best picks, Butts being an example.

Something is seriously wrong with how we value or see higher picks and our drafting or development philosophy has to change
I think Hamish struggles with midfielders in particular , he’s got a certain type so there is no balance of different traits

Watching Thilthorpe this year has removed the memories of 2020.
Watching Horne play for us next year would remove the memory of 2021 last 5 games.
If we get pick 2, get horne to tell all clubs exactly the same excuse bailey smitb gave..it would only need to out north off and the AFL could not stop him having set the precedent with allowing smith to use the excuse

Our want for Horne seems to me like our want for Rankine/Luko in 2018

We won't finish in a bad enough position to nab him without needing a trade. We also won't quite have the capital to trade up for him - NM will want him no matter what. We'll select some other guy and throw crap at the recruiters for years as to why we didn't trade up for Horne when, in fact, it was never really possible

I'm personally fine with grabbing a Roberts/Callaghan type
I think the ideal would be to somehow trade pick 2 if we get if for 2 picks inside the top 10 if it was possible to grab 2 high end mids.

Don't even need pick 2 if Horne does that, pick 4-5 will do (just need to be earlier than Port Power's pick).

Shits me that a garbage team like North will take a great talent from SA.
Whilst teams like Dogs and Pies get the creme of the crop under father son rules or NGA in recent past leaving us to not get priority access despite finishing last or second last two years in a row.
If it was a Victorian club they would be getting a priority pick.

Or a AFL pet project like Gold Coast who are getting a priority pick despite not finishing last in 2020 or 2021.

given our performance on Friday, fair chance we‘re looking at another top 3 pick next year too.
Or we could be mid-table next year.

Bring back in fit Walker, Talia, Crouch, Doedee, Brown ... another year of development/preseason to Butts, Schoenberg, Berry, Sholl, Hamill ... further progress from Pedlar, McAsey, Worrell, Cook ... plus the usual dependables - our earlier results v. Cats/Dees might happen more often.

I reckon we're still topping up on draft talent this year and we'll change tack next year.

If we’re gonna get Norths pick 1, we will need to be bold.

I can see GWS offering picks 4 & 9 for Norths pick 1. It would be a good deal for both.
Why would they do that, they have class mids running out of every orifice and that's where that pick will land because it's essentially pick 3 because Daicos and Darcy are gone and no other KPP are in that zone. It's a midfielders draft at the top end.

Except in that deal North lose Jason Horne.

I think, when talking about pick 1, we should actually put a name to it - Jason Horne. That’s pick 1.

For the exact reason you just said. It’s a midfielders draft, they don’t need midfielders. May as well go chips in on the best one than get two not quite as good

Every club needs high end midfielders. Clubs never stop needing high end midfielders.

This. I'm pretty sure either Kelly, Hamish or Reid even said so in an interview somewhere

We'll be looking to the 2022 FA class in particular, I reckon. Some interesting names out there (Bailey Dale, Brayden Maynard, Caleb Daniel, Isaac Heeney, Jayden Short to name a few). HIGHLY doubt we get a bigger name like Touk Miller or Jack Macrae, though

just kidding, it seemed a lot, you were nearly there, I’ve got 13 since Milera, and we did turf the big G.

Assuming we add three players in the top 25 this year (and Stephens) that's 15 top 30 draftees added in four drafts. That's certainly a key part of a rebuild.

I think it was pretty clear that we'd be looking bottom 3 a while ago. Would exactly call it a capitulation. Was always unlikely to beat essendon and we'll struggle to beat hawks imo. Think we've beaten them once in a long time??

North the only game I would be confident in, but even then, they've played better as the year has gone on.

We've improved, but are still way too inexperienced. We may pull out a couple of good games.

So who says no?

ADEL give rd1 picks (2021/22) to North

NTH give rd1 pick (2021) and rd2 pick (2022) to ADEL.

I think that seems pretty enticing for Nth especially next year when they more then likely have 2 top 5 picks.
How’s next years draft shaping up anyway? The difference between say a Roberts and Horne may not be worth what we’ll potentially miss out on next year? Mutineer Danger in Texas Jeffcrowe thoughts?

Yeah.. i find this fascination with Horne a bit over the top. As it stands it looks as if he’s going to go to North unless they decide someone else is a better option.. so if the crows desperately want him they need to trade up and that will cost an arm and a leg. North will want a heap.

We will end up with either pick 2, 3 or 4. I think we’ve got a couple of wins left in us.. north and hawks at AO and maybe jag another boil over win so i think we’ll end up with pick 4.. Very hard, nearly impossible, to see north ending above us. And I doubt Hawks will either.

Also.. the lad himself has already stated when asked that he is a freo supporter who, if he was to stay in adelaide, would rather play for the powa. Sounds like hes a bit of a flog then!. **** paying a massive premium for a player who’s stated that he’d jrather be playing for the little baby brother down the road.

At the end of the day there is also no guarantee he’ll end up being a better player than the bloke we could get with pick 4.. in fact looking at the last 5-6 years the player taken at pick 4 has turned out to be equally as good a player as the highly touted pick 1..

2020 JUH or Logan Mc
2019 Matt R or Lachlan Ash
These two years are a bit early to comprehensively judge.
2018 Sam Walsh or Max King
2017 cam Rayner or Luke D-U
2016 Andrew mcgrath or Ben Ainsworth
2015 jacob w or Clayton oliver

Horne looks bloody good but that doesnt guarantee he will end up being far better than the lad taken at 4 this year and wasting a heap of draft capital to get him, which is what it will take, would be incredibly dumb.
