just kidding, it seemed a lot, you were nearly there, I’ve got 13 since Milera, and we did turf the big G.

I did say after this year and should have wrote including the Milera draft and I wasn't counting Gallucci but was hoping Melbourne would stumble but shouldn't dismiss Hately as a qst rounder on the list.

Ideally if 10 turned out to be A graders that would be huge.
A few B graders a few C graders and the rest busts.
Add our rookies and existing few players who may surprise to the upside in the years to come.

If we can get a few FA or players to come here over a 3 year period then there's a 30-35 deep squad that should be very strong.

Sydney have 4 uncontracted SA boys this year and if nothing else we should be pushing up their price on 3.
Stephens would be a huge get and depending on how Gould is travelling I wouldn't complain for the right price.

Next year it's GC turn.

I've only heard Horne talk on the road to the draft podcast and going to the Power wasn't mentioned there.

Which interview did he say this in?

A crystal ball would be handy, if he ends up being a gun, paying an arm and a leg might be a bargain.

Horne, a Freo fan who idolises superstar Docker Nat Fyfe, will this year play far more midfield time having spent most of last season in the seniors' forward line. The 183cm prospect is competitive, wins contested ball and loves jumping for marks.

So who goes 1 to North Melbourne?

We need Hawthorn to go past us because if North don’t pick Horne then Hawthorn definitely will

He isn't a crows fan? If we sell the farm to get him and then in 2 years time leaves for freo, I'll need professional help to recover.

We will get a crack at high quality midfielders with early first and early second rounders for the next two drafts, at a minimum, whether it's Horne or not. We already have Pedlar, Berry and Schoenberg who by most impartial judges will be long term stayers. The key is choosing the generational mids with our first rounders, that win premierships.

He'll end up at Port, if wherever he goes doesn't suit, nothing surer....His stepfather is former Port player Fabian Francis.

If Horne is our guy then we have no excuse not to move heaven and earth to get from pick 2-4 up to pick 1. Would North take an experienced player or two (of quality) to boost their competitiveness in 2022, for a minor pick downgrade?

If so, pay the premium to get the pick and secure an SA based jet, surely we’ve learned the lesson from sitting on our hands and missing out in the 2018 draft.

So who says no?

ADEL give rd1 picks (2021/22) to North

NTH give rd1 pick (2021) and rd2 pick (2022) to ADEL.

I think that seems pretty enticing for Nth especially next year when they more then likely have 2 top 5 picks.
How’s next years draft shaping up anyway? The difference between say a Roberts and Horne may not be worth what we’ll potentially miss out on next year? Mutineer Danger in Texas Jeffcrowe thoughts?
2 early 1sts for an unproven AFL player....you're not serious, this kind of talk even before the Nationals are played where the lad will be pitted against the best of his peers is crazy. Let's see how he stacks up against his midfield peers at the Nationals in this draft before we get too carried away.

No. We aren't just one midfielder away we need 2 or 3 more.

If Horne ends up being a star and we still have 2 early 2nd rounders next year, we've done extremely well.

but what if mat Roberts ends up being a star, or Chesser or Sinn or Sonsie etc. We will likely have one of those lads and also a likely top 5 pick next year to go after another top mid OR trade for a player we want possibly. Mutineer is dead right, we need to wait for the champs and Horne is untried at AFL level so far anyway

You can add Hately and Keays to that list too

Crazy talk as we have so many holes in our side and you want to get rid of 2 picks for 1 player

Yeah I've been one of Horne's biggest fans the last couple of years, but not sure I'd trade next year's first to secure him.

There's a good chance there will be 4 or 5 mids close behind by the end of the year and that's still very high end. I doubt anyone will get to his level though.

Yeah.. i find this fascination with Horne a bit over the top. As it stands it looks as if he’s going to go to North unless they decide someone else is a better option.. so if the crows desperately want him they need to trade up and that will cost an arm and a leg. North will want a heap.

We will end up with either pick 2, 3 or 4. I think we’ve got a couple of wins left in us.. north and hawks at AO and maybe jag another boil over win so i think we’ll end up with pick 4.. Very hard, nearly impossible, to see north ending above us. And I doubt Hawks will either.

Also.. the lad himself has already stated when asked that he is a freo supporter who, if he was to stay in adelaide, would rather play for the powa. Sounds like hes a bit of a flog then!. fu** paying a massive premium for a player who’s stated that he’d jrather be playing for the little baby brother down the road.

At the end of the day there is also no guarantee he’ll end up being a better player than the bloke we could get with pick 4.. in fact looking at the last 5-6 years the player taken at pick 4 has turned out to be equally as good a player as the highly touted pick 1..

2020 JUH or Logan Mc
2019 Matt R or Lachlan Ash
These two years are a bit early to comprehensively judge.
2018 Sam Walsh or Max King
2017 cam Rayner or Luke D-U
2016 Andrew mcgrath or Ben Ainsworth
2015 jacob w or Clayton oliver

Horne looks bloody good but that doesnt guarantee he will end up being far better than the lad taken at 4 this year and wasting a heap of draft capital to get him, which is what it will take, would be incredibly dumb.
Agree with a lot of what you are saying, quite often the players taken after pick 1 end up being the better players. If we end up with a pick in the top 5 we still have a crack at a genuine elite mid.

Just looking through some of the drafts in recent years, there hasn't been too many times where pick 1 ends up the best player, recruiters seem to have nailed the order for the last 3 drafts (jury is out on JUH going at 1, but that pick was matched so Technically Thilthorpe was the first picked).

2009 - Dusty taken at pick 3 after Scully at 1
2010 - Gaff taken at pick 4 after Swallow at 1
2011 - Coniglio taken at 2 after Patton at 1
2012 - Mcrae at 6 and Wines at 7 after Whitfield at 1 (one of the better pick 1's)
2013 - Josh Kelly at 2 and Bont at 4 after Boyd at 1
2014 - Petracca at 2 after McCartin at 1
2015 - Oliver at 4 and Parish at 5 after Weitering at 1 (another good pick 1)
2016 - Taranto at 2 and McCluggage at 3 after Mcgrath at 1
2017 - Brayshaw and Cerra at 5 are the best of an average top 10 after Rayner went at 1
2018 - Superdraft - guns galore in the top 10
2019 - Anderson and Jackson taken at 2 and 3

My point is I don't think we should give up the farm for pick 1. Horne may well end up the best player taken, but we will still have access to a genuine gun at pick 2-5 if we can nail the pick.

Is Horne allowed to say before the draft that he doesn’t want to leave South Australia, or is that only allowed for Victorian players?
Rumours were that Wingard did... and also fogarty..

Although.. fogarty had knee issues that held him out for the second half of his draft season which probably helped him slide.. some “draft experts” had Fog as a potential pick 1 earlier in his draft year.

His record suggest he struggles full stop. This is his 10th year in post and we suck

His record is not good
His late / rookie picks are alot of hits

Jordan Butts a prime example , but for mids or mid/ forwards he really struggles

last years draft looks promising , would like to see another pre season into Pedlar and Cook
