Well now he didn’t draw a line through Dumont though did he?

Aware he’s out of contract and will have further talks during trade week. I think apparently that’s what he said. Or have I got that wrong?

Gawd that would cause an explosion here ha ha
IMO being diplomatic

Reids initial reaction to where Dawson will be played was Centre/ Fwd .....he later qualified that, but I'd say his initial reaction was probably closer to the mark

What he said about what the Crows are looking for in the Draft was, Speed and Power .....didn't specifically say fwd of the ball
Doesn't sound like Matt Roberts is in our plans if he's being up front with the media and there's not really that many mids in this draft with what you would class as top end speed. I reckon there's only probably handful with top end speed and power. Didn't mention "elite" foot skills too did he because that will lessen that number again?

Fair if Roberts is not in our specific plans. I'd be shocked if he wasn't in the plans of some teams in the top 20 though, given his decently well-rounded skillset (overhead, balanced midfield ability, tendency to push forward etc)

I know Roberts gets a bad rap on this board, I'd personally believe that if Roberts goes outside the first round, it's a steal for whoever takes him. IMO he has a very well rounded game for that draft position, even considering his relative weakness in athleticism

Quite the opposite actually ....was raved about early, and was talked about as a potential pick at #4

But as the scrutiny on players increased, more emphasis was placed on his deficiencies, than his strengths ......2nd round pick is appropriate IMO

No, he said specifically 'forward of the ball'

That doesn't mean we aren't targeting midfielders, though - to me, that means we're targeting potential midfielders that have an attacking nature, i.e. a more polished Keays, for example

Guys like Erasmus, Goater, maybe even Rachele to an extent fit that bill

Who gives Roberts an overly good (i.e. 'pick 4') rap *right now* on this board? It's not the opposite

I feel like a bit of Cyril Rioli syndrome is setting in re: Roberts - we're focusing in on his lack of athleticism too much, to the extent that we're disregarding his well-rounded skill-set around the rest of the ground. That is, he was so overrated that he's now underrated

He might still go 2nd round, but IMO he's still going to be an absolute steal for whoever takes him there

James Willis and Ned Long with a later pick might be options also.

Hamish does like him a Calder Cannon lad history shows. Josh Goater and Zac Taylor would be nice additions. :)

If we somehow keep 23 (extremely unlikely), Zac Taylor would be one of my first options with that pick. Him or Sam Butler (if Murley doesn't fall to 37/Kelly compo, I'd happily take Judson Clarke there, too)

You should already know I rate Goater highly :)

It's three out and three in as the minimum, clubs can forgo the draft entirely if they wish if they can satisfy that elsewhere.

Or if they want to upgrade rookie picks.
Rookie upgrades count towards the 3. Trades and Free agency signings do not.

It's a minimum 3x National Draft selections, less any rookie upgrades.

Nah - he just gets a bad wrap. Nothing more scientific to it than that.

As a pretty clear example in the 1st State game he was the highest ranked player on the ground statistically speaking. Now that’s not everything of course - but anyone who saw the game will know he took control of that game in the 2nd quarter and dragged us back into it.

Afterwards- crickets from the draft watchers. No acknowledgement of the prelim final he played as a graveyard half forward either. 10 touches 6 tackles and 2.1. You betcha he gets a bad wrap.

So at this point, barring trading in any picks and we give Sydney 23 for Dawson, would the most likely scenario be we use 4 and 37 and upgrade Butts? How many list positions do we have available at this stage?

I'd really like to get Roberts. Is why I'm ok with swapping #4 for #12 which will be #14 for Dawson. Then we can get Roberts and keep #23. If we trade #23 for Dawson, how in the world would we get Roberts?

Hope Kelly and Talia get us some picks we could group together for maybe GCs #19?

Yeah Roberts is a nice player. Played well for South last week in a big final too!

We currently have 4 senior list vacancies - Stengle, Talia, Lynch, and Kelly. Dawson would fill one of those vacancies. We also have O'Connor & Davis (R) as uncontracted players, should we need to create additional vacancies.

Note that it's not only Butts who could be upgraded, Strachan has also done 3 years on the rookie list. Both are equally in need of upgrading, though we can leave them on the rookie list for 1 more year if necessary.

** Assuming we continue with the 36/6 list structure - we could also switch to 37/5 or 38/4 if required.

Where have people seen Goater play and how many times?
I've seen most of his Calder Cannons games and one of his VFL games for the Bombers and the Challenge game so I'm fairly well acquainted with his game. He's exactly the type we need speed, power and athleticism off the charts with the ability to play almost anymore on the field

I don't like the bun. ;)

Was one of the best players in this match .....not too many match's to watch, like most Vic players this year

Unless you availed yourself of the NAB League streams or attended local matches that is, unfortunately since the AFL took over the running of the NAB League they've gone from Youtube live matches that were archived to live streams via the app and replays are no longer archived. Obviously they must be available to the recruiters somewhere but access for the public now is ratshit.

I still stick by the theory, you only need to see one game to recognise a good player

Reason recruiters see so many games is because they're ranking 60+ players .....so little POD's become importnat in ranking

Did peoples opinions of JHF's speed and attacking abilities change after that one Prelim Final by South .....you bet it did
