I knew someone would go there. Similar size and athletic traits I believe, regardless of what you are inferring.
All in good, just stirring... I made a similar comparison between Chol and Biggie not too long ago.

I've played a little bit of low level soccer, and definitely find in that setting, the Sudanese boys (and some other African heritages) definitely have a unique style of playing the game. Obviously not a hard and fast rule, but you can see it a little in guys like those mentioned. Even in soccer terms, they tend to be fast, athletic, beautifully skilled and like to show it off. But often their weakness is the physicality, body work etc.

7 ward

15 Goater

17 Van Rooyen

Bazzo with one of the other picks
Hobbs for me at 7 but agree with all the others! Honestly wouldn’t shock me if the tigers took someone like goater at 7. We always seem to rate some players a fair bit higher then what they are on the experts boards

Hobbs worries me because he’s slow ward for me plays 250 games and is a safe pick

So my choices

Safe mid

Mid with X factor

Tall who can play both ends and move

Reliable kpd

Pretty much addresses every need obviously wishful thinking

Pick 17 the key: Bulldogs’ first-rounder could unlock two different deals

The Western Bulldogs’ first-round draft pick is being sought by clubs involved in two different deals as a possible key to unlocking talks for Jordan Dawson and Callum Coleman-Jones.
The Dogs’ pick 17, which the club is keen to trade for multiple later draft picks that can secure them more ranking points to help cover a bid for star father-son prospect Sam Darcy than the pick 17 alone would draw, is being sought as a potential circuit breaker in talks for the trades of both Dawson and Coleman-Jones.

Tiger [PLAYERCARD]Callum Coleman-Jones[/PLAYERCARD] is looking to make his way to North Melbourne.

Under a trade scenario being canvassed on Tuesday, Adelaide would trade later picks to the Bulldogs for pick 17 but only on the proviso that the pick was sufficient to satisfy the Swans in an exchange for Dawson.
The Crows and Bulldogs were content with the arrangement, but Sydney rejected the deal as insufficient compensation for the player who had come third in their best and fairest.

Richmond and North Melbourne, meanwhile, have also begun discussions with the Bulldogs on a trade for Callum Coleman-Jones that would involve pick 17.

Under that scenario, the Dogs would improve their points position, Richmond would secure pick 17, and North would slide a few places in the draft.

The Tigers and North have also discussed whether Robbie Tarrant is tied into the trade for Coleman-Jones and picks. While Tarrant is a free agent and technically able to move to Richmond for nothing, his arrival as a free agent would dilute the compensation the Tigers would receive for losing their own free agent, Mabior Chol, to the Gold Coast.

Is Hobbs actually slow or just not explosive?

Yeah completely agree, I just like the fact that the first thing I keep hearing about Hobbs is aggression. To me if we are looking for someone replace Cotchin in the next couple of years that’s the main thing cotch brings to our midfield that nobody else does and he seems very handy up forward as well

Agree wins the ball is aggressive and tackles to hurt if he was quicker he’d be perfect

If we draft him fans will love him but his pace could be exposed

Knightmare what’s your thoughts on Hobbs Pace? Concerning?

What are Goater’s knocks? From all what people have been saying, it really sounds like this guy has the potential to end up a top 5 midfielder of this draft. What makes him a 10-20 prospect to many analysers?

More an athlete than a footballer are the negatives and no real fixed position apparently are the negatives

Knightmare on his positives

9. Josh Goater
Best position: Utility
Height, weight:190cm, 79kg
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Projected draft range: 5-25
Plays like: Elliot Yeo
June ranking: Outside-20
Rationale: Goater has gotten better as the year has progressed and his performance in the Vic Metro vs. Vic Country trial made clear he's among the upper echelon of prospects this year. His versatility and capability to impact games across multiple different positions sets him apart from his peers.
Strengths:
Versatility to impact games through the midfield, in defence and up forward
Contested ball winning
Distribution by hand
Composure in traffic
Reading of the ball in flight
Overhead marking
Intercept marking
Leap
Burst of speed out of stoppages
Acceleration
Agility
Evasion
Work rate

richoatthedisco what’s your read on Hobbs
The Metro-Country game Daicos, Ward and Goater were the best three mids on the ground. As above, my concern with Hobbs is he's too similar to Ross and Martyn. The best contested mids like Dusty, Cotch, Dion, Oliver, Petracca, even Wines, have explosiveness from the contest. They don't just shovel it out, they go in and get it and emerge the other side having created time and space. I haven't seen that with Hobbs.

Knightmare what’s your thoughts on Hobbs Pace? Concerning?

He's not quick. Below average speed/agility is how he plays. He's something like this year's Matt Crouch equivalent, or perhaps on projected quality, more like a Luke Dunstan. He can rack it up, win the footy. Good tackler. He's a competitive sort who will have a crack. But not quick, athletic or a particularly good kick. So you wouldn't be sticking him into a slow midfield with a bunch of the same - eg. he'd look silly in a Giants uniform. But on a team needing what he brings to the table, he can be a list fit. I just feel like, and this is reflected by my relatively low rating of him that there are a lot of similar types around who can be had, and had cheaply. So I wouldn't be paying an early pick to get him, likely as he is to have an immediate impact.

On Goater, the elements concern are inconsistent kicking, but he's also someone where he needs to develop more as a mid and become a higher level of ball winner through there. Weirdly he found more of the footy in defence than he did as a mid which is one of the more unusual things.

I wouldnt mind Goater at pick #7 (9) if Erasmus / Ward / Callaghan are taken
Whilst KM mentions he plays like Elliot Yeo i see a bit of David Mundy in him

Thoughts on Knevitt as that big mid? Feel Goater goes between our picks at this point.

Thoughts on Knevitt as that big mid? Feel Goater goes between our picks at this point.

Knevitt is part of my top-20 power rankings for October (see signature/ESPN's AFL site).

194cm mid. So he's a big boy. Can win it, strong tackler, strong mark around the ground. Came good later in the year and one of those had the season gone longer I feel like more people would be talking about as a top-20 pick. But given it didn't, he could come into the conversation early second for an early guess.

Goater could be there at 15. He's one for shortlists at that point but 7 is too early for mine given the uncertainty around how good he could be as a mid and the probability he remains in defence based on performance to date.

If you're after tall mids, Matthew Johnson and Mitch Owens (Saints NGA but if bid on with those first two Richmond picks, they can't match) are two I'd be strongly suggesting you look closely at with those early picks, as for mine at least even better alternatives.

Knightmare pros and cons of Ned long?

Limited sample with just three NAB League games. I was fortune enough to see two of them.

Low impact per possession and felt quiet, but you look at the stats and you're surprised to see how well he does.

He lacks in the way of x-factor and probably lacks that something special by position to stick out on the field. But with that said, kicked 7 goals from his 3 NAB League games, and at 192cm showed he can take marks forward of centre, but then also went through the midfield and won a good amount of it. So there is something to work with.

He's appropriate for selection mid draft and if you can get him third round you've probably done well.
