Sonsie- draft central

Sonsie’s rise to prominence started in the first Victorian Under 16 trial game back in 2019, where he was the name on many scouts’ lips after putting in a dominant performance through the midfield. He would carry that form into the championships proper, winning Vic Metro’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in an undefeated carnival. Sonsie averaged 23 disposals at those championships and finished with a bang, kicking 4.3 to showcase his ability to hurt the opposition inside attacking 50. Sonsie’s ability forward of centre has been a key aspect to his game, kicking an incredible goal at MARS Stadium playing NAB League in 2019, and his two-goal games this year included performances against Calder Cannons and Tasmania Devils, as well in his one outing for Box Hill in the VFL.

At stoppages, Sonsie is dynamic in reading taps with good timing and quick thinking, hitting the ball at pace and doing so cleanly. There aren’t many players as clean as Sonsie at stoppages as he never fumbles and with good agility, can escape congestion and find targets by hand or foot to set up plenty of drive from the contest. With clean hands and that mix of composure and agility, Sonsie often gets maximum value out of his clearances which he has done in plenty of games this year – most significantly during his 34 disposal outing against Calder Cannons in Round 2.

Sonsie is arguably the most dual-sided player in the draft, capable of kicking competently on either foot. Combined with his agility and composure, he often creates more options for himself when he can fake to either side. Sonsie’s two ripping goals against Calder Cannons both came off his opposite foot and if there is a player in recent memory that could execute the same goals – 2001 Brownlow Medalist Jason Akermanis. Sonsie could even get close to that level he, is going to be a special player.

15,27,28 for saints pick 9 ?

7,9,26 ?

Keep in mind i'm going of that ESPN post and we land Ward and Hobbs

Take what ESPN says with a grain of salt, there's no chance both slide (if we get Hobbs I would be rapt). In terms of the deal, I wouldn't do it as the top 30 are very talented, heaps of talent on offer. Now if you said 27 and 28 for pick 9, let's talk but giving up a first-rounder and 2-second rounders for pick 9 (11) that's just way too much.

Don't saints have NGA players to match? not entirely sure where they land but they could make second round picks pretty useless for the saints unless they are short on points.

We give up Pick 15 (17), 26 and future second for pick 9 (11)?
Having picks 9 and 11 would a great result
Yeah they do thats why i added another second rounder in 28 so one will getting eaten by NGA and they still have one right ?

That's massive overs for only a 6 spot increase
Just 15 & 27 should be enough for that
don't care about "points" if that means us landing a brighter talent

But in saying all this the amount of fluctuation in opinion of this draft makes you think 26,27,28 might be the better hand ?

If we got Ward and Hobbs that would be perfect. Helps out future team rebuild and allows us to have some depth next year that can push RCD and Dow for selection. Hopefully replace Aarts, Pickett
Interesting in that scenario. What would we give up for Pick 9?
Food for thought though.Hobbs & Ward.

It would be hard to prise 9 from the Saints, they're a bit toey about an early bid for Owens, they might go for 15 and one of our 2nds next year but TBH I think that we'd keep our draft capital for now and see what pans out on the night

Give them #15 + #28 and tell them to piss off , They need picks more than anybody and wont get a better deal anywhere
Then bid on owens with #26

If Sinn gets through to our second pick I would hope we take a good look even if JVR is still on the board. If not for injury there's every chance he could have had the early games that Callahan did and be a top five prospect (as he was considered coming into this year)
That injury though was a ten week hammy on an 18yo fast kid. Not a great sign.

That depends on who your dealing with.
None of the rebuilding sides are going to offer up a deal that is too good to refuse.

So that takes out North Hawks Crows Pies. Suns traded heavily into next year already so that counts them out as well. Carlton may be desperate enough to do something, but I reckon they have finally worked out trading future picks out is a disaster given their ability to continually fail. Saints will want to keep their picks to launch a run at King. Same with Essendon who are reportedly hunting King as well. That leaves sides that we're thereabouts for the finals this year. Fremantle have steadily improved under Longmuir, so could sneak into the 8. The rest of them should again be in the mix, so trading say 28 for one of their future 2nds isn't a deal that is too good to refuse. Now if one of them offer up their 2022 first you'd think we'd consider it depending on who was available at that time, if there are a couple of first round sliders on the board I'd suggest it is unlikely we trade, however if all our targets are gone then maybe it gets done.

Let’s get five talented kids with the right attitude and let our culture and our football department do their thing…
Let’s get 5 ordinary players and give them a challenge.

Your right i think.
But its so tempting to do a deal of somekind if both were @ 7.lol

Think it’s also good to take a fair few kids, as pessimistic as it sounds not all of them will make it or become the player they have the potential to be so need to maximise our chances on getting a strong core in the same age profile that we can build around

Its all about the uncertainty of this year.
Hell even the full time guru's are all over the shop.
I'd trade one of our 2nds for a future 2nd in a heart beat to a side that more than likely will still be around that 28 pick mark next year or if we go out to 31ish then even thats a good deal on the basis we know more of what we're getting next year than this year.

You're trading into a draft where the 16 year olds from 2 years ago have had less development put into them than the kids available this year.

For sure, a similar argument could be made for 26-27-28. All the talk is that the draft is very even around that 10-30 mark with quite a bit of depth after that, so our ability to cherry pick is outstanding
Will be interesting Draft night thats for sure.
Still like to land future picks.

But they'll get 12 mnths more development next year than the current crop who have had what 6 games amongst their peers in the past 2yrs not to mention the Champs.
