No they wouldn’t. Even if it mean a trade of picks in north’s favour as a thank you for not bidding. Pies missed out big time. Different if they missed on pock 3 or 4, but pick 2? Massive stuff up.
Yep, no doubt the Pies would’ve thrown North a freebie future 4th rounder or such to ensure they take Horne-Francis at #1, allowing Pies to grab Callaghan or such at #2, whilst retaining enough points for a GWS bid in Daicos at #3. Would’ve been no skin off North’s nose and the Pies would’ve come away with 2 of the top 4 kids in the country - that’s Gold Coast Suns type drafting.

Alternatively, with the knowledge of potentially getting pick #1, the Pies might’ve orchestrated a wooden spoon and got Horne-Francis AND Daicos.

But they didn’t because they bottled 2020 😁

Except Hobbs will be hitting his peak when Richmond is hopefully back contending for flags (2026 onwards) when Mitchell is hanging up his boots.

Seems to recall that Clayton Oliver won a bf in sec season , not suggesting he peaked but he started making an impact earlier than 6y down the track , Hobbs very similar type

Agree with every part of this post.

I could also see that if we fill our boots by #28 with 4 highly sought players that we might live trade that to Port for their 2022 2nd rounder (+ maybe their 2022 3rd if Port spot a slider they really want).

Why would we give up 28 for a pick that is likely to be 30+ in 2022? Surely we would ask for more.... otherwise what's the point?

Richmond now has five picks inside the top 30 – a terrific hand for a team somewhat regenerating its list while still being in the premiership window. But the fact it’s previously used its strong leverage – it put forward an offer to North Melbourne in an attempt to snare Pick 1 – suggests the club would be prepared to again package up a few selections to get higher up the draft order.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the Tigers also rate Giants academy prospect Fahey highly and could launch a bid on him with one of their second-round selections. The Giants are almost certain to match a bid on Fahey, but might need to bank more points prior to the draft to give them some comfort, especially if a bid does come in the second round.

The Giants’ Pick 2 is also in hot demand, as reported by foxfooty.com.au on Friday night, with multiple clubs keen to trade up to that selection in order to get their hands on young gun midfielder Fin Callaghan. Gold Coast (Pick 3), Adelaide (Pick 4), Hawthorn (Pick 5) and Fremantle (Pick 6) have all been heavily linked to the left-footed Callaghan, with both the Suns and Crows already making inquiries.

Rival clubs believe the Giants would be open to trading Pick 2 and prepared to strike a deal with a team that presents the best offer, but only if it meant the Giants could still secure their preferred prospect. It’s understood the Giants are seeking a key-position player – rather than a midfielder like Callaghan – at their first draft selection, with Dandenong Stingrays star Mac Andrew widely viewed as their top priority.

Yeah, not suggesting Hobbs or similar won’t make an impact prior to 2026…. just highlighting the short sightedness of those suggesting a 28yo Mitchell for pick-7 would have been a good move.

Its not about how developed they're but how developed they're in relation to the rest of the draft class. If Williams was in next years draft class and put on an extra 3-4 kg's over the off season he would 194cm and around 90kg's, you would hope he would be dominating. Likewise you would expect he his current height and weight to not being holding him back against the current crop of draftees.

Mental maturity isn't a factor between someone born in January and December. If you were kept back a year at school it would be a factor but you're not going to be any more mental mature than the people your own age based on the month you're born in. A lot more important factors in play such as parents, up bringing, ect.

While growing into your body is heavily dependant on the individual, in Williams situation he isn't a player who physically is disadvantaged from having being born later than the rest of his draft class. In fact out of all the KPP in the draft that have considered in the top 30, Williams is the one who physically ahead of the rest.

A player like Darcy Wilmot (31/12/03) is someone who physically is someone possibly disadvantaged by being the later birth month.

JVR pace is the only reason I would consider him with 17. Easily quicker than Williams who runs in quick sand.

I would hardly doubt that JVR is a lot quicker than Williams , JVR is not fast but he is a smart footballer
Also Williams i believe had a good 2klm time and with another 12 months he would be considered elite tank for a KPP

I'd be pretty disappointed if we try and trade up and give up most of our strong draft hand or worse yet next year's 1st.

We just need to go with what we have.
I'm thinking the same we need to refresh the list Don't see the point of throwing away 3 picks for one. We did that years ago Roberts Jackson Teasdale hope club learned lol. But the fact they showed they had that they are willing to throw them away means a lot.

Now’s our chance to address our midfield quickly with this year’s draft being a midfielder’s draft. Don’t want us going for KPPs in the first round unless Gibcus slips to pick 15. Our focus needs to be on taking midfielders. Let’s be honest, Bolton is probably the only young midfielder heading to Cotchin and Dusty’s level, meaning that we need to find a couple of star midfielders in our next generation.

All our other young mids haven’t shown many signs (pre and especially post-draft) that they will end up at that level, so relying on a genuine top midfielder to come from them is relying on a surprise.

Yes, we have a KPP issue as well (lost Astbury, Garthwaite, CCJ and Chol), but that can wait until a draft that has a lot of good KPPs at the top end. I already heard that next year’s draft has quite a few top KPPs, so maybe we can focus on KPPs then.
To be fair to our young mids though, they really haven’t had a chance to show many signs. Gotta give them a chance

Williams looks good to me , one question to the experts around here , how is he diff to callow as he looked similar and has done nothing much at vfl to suggest anything yet and likely delisting

That’s pretty well my sentiment too , we need several young talented players IN , one player won’t be the salvation

I can’t think of a club better positioned to swap gws pic 2 . As 7 would realistically be as low as they’d like without risking their target. I don’t want it to cost us another r1 selection though

Don’t think GWS would do it without gaining another round 1 pick imo
Otherwise they have no real insensitive to do it

Essendon supposedly considering splitting pick 11 according to Fox.

"Recruiters believe the Bombers’ future second-round selection is up for grabs, while they could also be open to splitting their natural first-round selection (Pick 11)."
26 & 27 for 11.
7-Hobbs
11-Goater
15-bid on Fahey(if matched)-Taylor
28-best KP available.

9 Hobbs, otherwise Ward
17 Sonsie/Goater (whoever slides)
28 Bazzo
29 Taylor
30 Another Tall forward prospect

Hobbs and Bazzo probably the 2 key players we need from this draft.

Hobbs has grown on me dramatically. After reading his supports and seeing his highlights, he reminds me of an Ollie Wines type and a little bit of Dusty getting out of traffic. You need players like this with a first round pick. I don't think Hobbs is just an accumulator.
