Will take him 4 + years to put on weight and be ready for constant senior football. By which time his head would've been filled with sweet nothings resulting in another team poaching him for a 2nd rounder and we basically wasted a 1st rounder and spend a million dollars developing him for another team. Shai Bolton is a twig by AFL midfield standards and he weighs 7kg more than Andrew. Pass!!!!!!!!Unpopular opinion on here possibly but I don’t fully understand why we wouldn’t take Mac Andrew if he was available and none of the top seven midfielders have slipped?
Top ten take the best available and we do need a tall or two just as much as midfielders.
People may be calling him speculative but he’s not any more or less speculative than any other Victorian who didn’t get to play many games. He also hasn’t totally come from out of the blue he’s been on the radar as a talent.
My bad.No, I meant it was a joke
Pick 18's a fair price.Seems to be a feeling that we’ll have a red hot crack at Tom Green next trade period once we have money freed up from the likely Cotchin/Riewoldt retirements. We will need that first round pick next year
I mean he’s going to get more opportunities, earlier than CCJ did simply by the fact that Riewoldt and Lynch are both four years (?) older than they were when CCJ was drafted. Will take him 4 + years to put on weight and be ready for constant senior football. If we get to 7 and all of the gun mids are gone and we are thinking of Andrew, I'm honestly trading that pick 7 back for two picks in the teens or a teens pick + a future first from someone. No way am I taking Andrew at 7, way too much of a risk.If Andrew is available at our first pick then we have to take him. Hopefully sonsie is there at 15 and then another 2 mids and either Bazzo or Alleer with our 3 second rounders
I hope he does have a great year and make me look foolish. However I doubt it. I think RCD is bog average at best.Well let’s hope RCD has a cracking year and makes you look totally foolish.
Jack kicked 50 goals. Stop burying him. He's not dead yet. I recon if he plays 17+ games he'll get 50 again.Crazy? He could be a star at CHF for all we know. Tarrant will take the big quality talls and will improve the backline. Between Broad, Grimes and Vlastuin, there is good aerial coverage. Bring Miller in for the extra height if needed or against tall forward lines. The backline is the least of our problems. Our forward line was awful last year, to go into a new season with the same forward line an extra year older without some new plan would be astonishing to me. Jack or Lynch goes down we have nobody, and at 33 you can't leave it any more to Jack.
That's the beauty of Balta, he's a 196cm small. One of the quickest on the list, big engine, strong overhead, dual-sided and ridiculous off his bootlaces.Don’t think our system really works with a 3 tall set up, we only did it last year because of injury’s to Soldo and Nank and CCJ and Chol tended to rotate better forward than back like Soldo and Nank tend to do more so
In the previous years we only played with 2 talls so I don’t think it’s that big of an issue and actually better giving more space and leading lanes for Jack and Lynch to operate in
Parker is one of the best marks in the comp, especially for his size. Haven't seen that with MacDonald. He's a nice player but not as brutal as Parker either. For sure on McDonald
Reminds me of Parker at the same age
Similar traits
Was shattered we went Batch over him at the time couldn’t work it out why he went at pick 40.
Parker fell in the draft and looks like McDonald is touted in a similar range in the 30’s. Would love him in the 20’s too though with our picks depending on who we get with 9 and 17
Kick outs. Handball receives. Clean shorts.Don’t know a lot about Fahey, but interesting that he’s had 20+ touches in 2 100+ VFL losses. To Geelong in the Academy game, and to our VFL team at Punt Road. So can obviously find the ball
He's put on 10kg this year. Will take him 4 + years to put on weight and be ready for constant senior football. I'm not burying him, but I think his days of working up and down the ground, form the wing to full forward are gone. To me I think he can play the Fitsch type roll, let the others do the bullocking and use his smarts. He is a much better player than Fitsch, so I have no doubt if he is given that type of role he will have a good year. But our problem was getting it down to him.Jack kicked 50 goals. Stop burying him. He's not dead yet. I recon if he plays 17+ games he'll get 50 again.

Yeah, I agree juss. If our prime target is gone, I hope we quickly communicate with the Lions and see if they'll give us their #14 and their 2022 1st rounder so they can grab Ashcroft unimpeded next year.If we get to 7 and all of the gun mids are gone and we are thinking of Andrew, I'm honestly trading that pick 7 back for two picks in the teens or a teens pick + a future first from someone. No way am I taking Andrew at 7, way too much of a risk.

To be fair I was playing with wordsMy bad.
You can return a boooo
Cant see us burning our best pick on an area (KPDs) we have depth in compared to areas we need immediate depth (mids, small forwards and a back up key forward).Just thinking about all the different scenarios we could do. Do we go best tall with #9 (Gibcus) then mids and flankers? Or do we pick the best mid available (Hobbs/Ward) and then a Van Rooyen type?
Scenario 1 -
#9 - Gibcus KPD
#17 - Sinn/Sonsie FWD/MID
#28 - Macdonald IM
#29 - Taylor FWD/Mid
#30 - Chesser WING
Scenario 2 -
#9 - Ward/Hobbs/Johnson
#17 - Van Rooyen
#28 - Taylor
#29 - Howes
#30 - Williams/Bazzo
These next 20 odd days are gonna take forever.
If all the mids I assume you are referring to are gone, then one of Erasmus or Rachelle, or Gibcus will be there. Are they not acceptable? If we get to 7 and all of the gun mids are gone and we are thinking of Andrew, I'm honestly trading that pick 7 back for two picks in the teens or a teens pick + a future first from someone. Agree. At our first pick I think you want a sure thing in their position, not a hybrid, or a “might be”Rachele has a sniff of Higgins / Lennon about him which worries me at pick-7. I’d select players who’ve proven they can be dominant in midfield, not that they might be able to progress into the midfield.

We don't have one atm. Will be a very odd feeling if we're out of the draft by pick 30, considering we've been taking mainly late picks and rookies for quite a few years now.Worth a rookie/late pick?

He is much better than both of them, especially Lennon and can play midfield as well. Classy player who looks like a definite top 10 pick. I would have no problem if we picked him.Rachele has a sniff of Higgins / Lennon about him which worries me at pick-7. Our problem was our midfield and half forward line. Midfield was spanked and our small half forwards were terrible. Castagna, Rioli, Arts etc had zero impact. They provided no defensive pressure and added stuff all to the team’s ability to score. Midfield failure put the defenders under extreme pressure and provided minimal opportunity to our key forwards.I'm not burying him, but I think his days of working up and down the ground, form the wing to full forward are gone. I like itJust Spit balling, we trade pick 7 and our future first to GWS for Pick 2 to get Callaghan. Then trade pick 15 for Brisbane's future first
2021: Callaghan, 26,27,28
2022: Bris 1st. North 2nd, our 2nd
