When was the last time we had a player want to go back home ? Conca only left as we wanted him to go and Freo took him for free

Higgins to St Kida doesnt count

Go-home factor is only really an issue after the kids first contract expires, so 2 or 3 years after being drafted.

A Vic kid drafted into WA or SA can easily get home because of the threat of PSD. The reverse is rarely true because the kid has a 2 in 18 chance of ever being able to threaten psd to go in the other direction.

Sometimes you get a guy want to go back mid-career, usually due to missus getting up the duff and wanting to go back to family. But that's like 6 years into a career and usually a fringe player who gets traded for chump change.

If Ward and Hobbs are both off the board by our firsts pick, I'm liking the idea of taking Sonsie with our first pick. It might be higher than what most rate him, but he has shown he can play against men, having lined up in the VFL and playing quite well. When you read more about his attributes and his player comparison, which happens to be Cotchin, grabbing him may be the right way to go instead of going after a WA kid like Erasmus or Johnson who could do a Cerra in a few years time and look to head back home.

Have a read of his profile here and make up your own minds but I wouldn't be unhappy at all if we call out his name.
Quick anticipation,,clean hands best dual sided player ,,, thats all you need to read
really want him at punt rd next year

You really underestimate what it'd be like to play for Richmond. The family like culture and huge support, they'd feel like home as soon as they walked in the doors. Sonsie has every chance to be there at #17. You'd take Erasmus or Johnson at #9 everyday of the week before Sonsie.

100% …. Sonsie is NOT Top 10

Well, you can't lose then. If he turns out to be a good player you'll get to benefit from him as a Tiger fan. And if he doesn't, you get to say I told you so. It's just like tipping against your own team really.
No I’ll come in here and admit I was a poor judge if RCD turns out to be a good player.

We still have holes in our list, yes Hobbs/ward fill that immediate midfield hole and probably plan A but going best available isn’t a bad option either
The only two list spots that we have decent depth in are rucks and rebounding defenders

So using pick 7 on a highly rated key position player or even small/medium lockdown or intercept player wouldn’t be bad results
4 mids and a key forward req

I'm just curious what it is exaclty you've seen from him to come to that conclusion... to my eye he's shown a ton of glimpses of his talent without showing any huge deficiencies in his game, maybe lacks a bit of defensive intensity at times which will hopefully improve with fitness, but he's not exactly failed at each hurdle for developing young (tall) mid so far in his career. Nice skills, powerful, wins clearances, good burst of speed etc... what's bog average about that?

From memory RCD grew about 10cm in his draft year and we fully expected him to take 2-3 years to develop into a player. It’s easily forgotten he only made his debut in 2021…. and played most games in a heavily depleted midfield and a non-dominant ruck - not to mention on the back of a COVID year with limited development opportunity. He applied himself pretty well against decent odds this season. I agree he didn’t show superstar traits, but I defy any midfielder except the truly elite (Walsh etc..) to have done much more in their first season of footy. He may turn out a dud, but I wouldn’t make that assessment off 2021.

****ing more excuses for this guy. Our saviour. He was in his 3rd year not first. He’s never been fit enough. He was just not good enough in the first 2 years to get a game. I cannot remember a player who’s had more excuses made for him than RCD 0r been afforded as much development time. He’s got this year to put up. If he hasn’t made his way as a regular in the senior team then we should piss him off.

Nice rant. I think most supporters would agree RCD must deliver in 2022 but most reasonable people are holding off until then before kicking his butt down punt road. There definitely has been excuses made but a lot of them are also facts.

Can see Adelaide going for Rachele at 4 (6).
GWS going with Andrew, Gold Coast Gibcus, Freo Erasmus. Leaves Hawks as a question mark. Sounding like they have Ward high on their list.

Looking very likely two of Hobbs, ward or Callaghan will be there at 7.
Callaghan is the player that clubs are trying move up for. He won't get past pick 4.

Should take Erasmus if Hobbs and Ward were gone. He averaged 28 possessions (2/3 contested) in the Colts. Great work rate and mark.

Bolton didn't go home after all the concerns. Should go for the best available and back our culture to keep WA talent. Only have 7 Sand gropers on the list.

RCD was on fire…pity COVID pretty much cancelled 2020 & 2021 VFL seasons …after a solid preseason, conditioning, bulk, 2022 will be an opportunity for RCD to prove his worth

Not now, but how high is his ceiling compared to others. This is very much the way Richmond drafts, nearly all our picks of recent years factor in what the player will be like in 3 years. Sonsie has class and pace but seems a bit small for what we need.

Just hope we can get one of Hobbs, Ward or Erasmus with out first, wouldn't mind Gibcus if they are all off the board already.

Hopefully get a Goater, Sinn or Sonsie with our 2nd pick.

Would be nice if the Taylor kid made it out to our trio of picks too.

That’s a lie. Plenty of players have been given plenty of time to develop.

Edwards took forever to come on same with Daniel Jackson. FFS Miller is still on the list and only got his first game this year. Chol got ages as well and I’m sure others can come up with some more examples.

What people need to realise also is that if we want to recruit big bodied mids, you need to expect a long term investment. Other than Cripps most 190+ mids take a long time.
