Bit of a fluff piece with Will Thursfield. But we get what we can.

Big focus on character. Comfortable with what they know about the players.

Interesting. Not much changed on their thoughts after yesterdays training session.
Which is good.
No 2nd guessing on our part.

Excellently comprehensive yet relatively unknown draft resource with a write up on each player. If you have an interest in a player or 3, you might learn something more here:-

Tomorrow their draft order is released.

This is the old Draft Central, under the RookieMe banner.

Great resource.

That works both ways though. Whilst you might be more likely to get a dud with a top 10 pick than usual, you're also more likely to get a star with a pick in the 20s.

That’s assuming there’s an equal amount of talent compared to an average draft. We could of just traded into the equivalent of the 2003 draft. 5 good players in the whole year.

At the moment even having a pick as good as 7 there’s no clear talent likely to be at our pick. In most years there would be plenty of guys developing late in the year much like Bont, Petracca, Oliver, Dusty all did. None of them got the chance this year.

The fact we’ve been prepared to commit so much capital to move up the board to what we see as top end talent shows we as a club aren’t that certain on this draft pool.

I would expect us to play this draft very safe in the first round. If we bust on all 5 picks the club will be set back years. If we get two best 22 players we will have done well.

Neither JVR or Bazzo are worth a first round pick. In a year where there are several quality talls they’d be lucky to be drafted. Why do people on this board keep raising their names? I know we have a need for talls, however, quality, not just because they’re tall. This is a midfielders draft. Both these kids, only 2 months ago were considered to be picks in the 30s to 40s. Now because there appears to be no other talls with exposed form they are elevated up the pecking order. JVR looks great in highlights but if you go and watch him in full games, you’ll notice when actually he was in a pressure situation he panicked and cooks his kicks, so badly they all grub along the ground. If we are to take one of the 2, I’d rather Bazzo but with our last pick.
if RFC have to take a tall I’d rather speculate on a player like Rentsch, I think he showed more potential than JVR but has had limited game time/exposure due to the season being halted.
. All good, I don’t have JVR and Bazzo first round either but still worth top 30 in my opinion. I also trust the Richmond setup to develop these guys. I don’t recall huge expectations on Ashbury, Grimes or any number of other players recruited that have gone on. Rance was good for a couple of shanks a game early as well. I just think it’s a great window to get a couple of good potential talls to work with in the next couple of years. I think we missed out on Kaine Baldwin last year as a low pick and available and Essendon picked him, so we have to try sooner rather than later to get some height in. Losing CCJ hurt so rather make a effort now instead of hoping next year will be a better batch of talls.

Worth noting that Biggy has nominated for the national draft, but Cumberland hasn't. Another club may be planning to poach Biggy with a senior list spot, or we're planning to redraft him if we trade a pick out.

Blake Schlensog has also not nominated for the national draft, which means he must have agreed to join a club in the SSP (same as Paddy McCartin).

I am actually more excited about our other 4 picks than pick #7

I know we will get a good player thats rated highly and will most likely be 1 or Rachele , Hobbs , Gibcus , Ward , Andrew and they all create excitement in different ways.

But i would be disappointing if we give up too many assets to moving up as draft picks this year imo are really valuable with so many potential guns possible later in the draft due to no exposed form.

Player like Oliver could be waiting to be selected that has not had that chance to shoot up the charts this year

Fully agree l am nervous with who we get at 7 ( l personally want either Ward, Hobbs ). Our other picks will be solid players with potential. Some may slide to us

And with so little exposed form this year maybe it is the boon some of us think it is

Nah. If your investing this much draft capital you wouldn’t pick a year when your drafting blind. We are missing the most crucial part of the picture, the last half of their final season.

They will email their draft kit to all subscribers tonight. Their work is the best in the business from a resource perspective - sign up and support them if you can, they're great.

I had a look, and most players that clubs have delisted and committed to rookie list have nominated for the national draft. Only a handful (including Cumberland) haven't.

What this means is that Cumberland's nomination will only be for the PSD/rookie draft, where as Biggy can be selected in any draft.

Wasn’t there talk at one point that Cumberland wasn’t keen on the vaccine?
Maybe he’s quietly exiting the comp?

I reckon we will only take 4 picks in the national draft
Holding back 1 pick to be used in the supplementary list
We will either combine 2 of our second round picks to move up into a late first round or very early second round pick
Or trade our last pick in the second round to a club for
There next years first or early second round pick,,,
With our 4 picks,,3 mids one kp
And train 2 -3 kp players over summer who ever is da best
Goes on the list
