Soligo has been mentioned in most drafts? Mostly between the 25-40 range. The kid is highly talented and has extremely good skills on both sides of his body and has a lot of c u next Tuesday about him. Was super impressive in his vfl game and would be a quietly handy pick up at any of the picks in 20’s we have. Reminds me of a Devon Smith. This is really confusing when you consider Richmond traded #38+#40+F3 for pick #27 then to take a kid that's name has not even been mentioned anywhere i have heard or read in the last 3-4 months with pick #26 or #27
I'm thinking we could have just traded out #38 and kept F3 and just selected him with our pick #40

No you won't while Dusty is still playing. If we choose Gibcus and Hobbs falls to ******* Essendon I will quit football.

The talk is a tigers and crows deal for 4 & 33 for 7 & 26 could be on the cards.Would love to see us go hard if the chips fall our way we have got two future 2nds and a future 1st to play with alongside our existing picks. Now is the perfect time to find young stars as the $$$ to pay them when they start reaching their prime will be available as we see the retirements of some club champions.
I think we would be pushing that deal to get Ward by leapfrogging the Hawks. The talk is a tigers and crows deal for 4 & 33 for 7 & 26 could be on the cards.
I don’t know if crows accept it but if tigers are all in on Hobbs and Rachele can slide to 7 then I think both clubs are happy to get their man and crows move up 7 places.
Haven't seen him play, but reading his draft profile gives me Liam Baker vibes.Soligo has been mentioned in most drafts? Mostly between the 25-40 range. Try not getting ya kickers in a knot until you see any of these lads play![]()

I saw highlights of Sonsie playing VFL and he looked great. Bombing goals on the run from outside 50
The issue with Higgo was that he was highly rated but thought to be already at his ceiling, which was spot on in hindsight. You can go back in almost every draft and the player taken at #1 rarely turns out to be the best player of the draft; albeit a good player.
Does that mean that team has failed?
Higgins was rated a top talent, fell on draft night and despite a significant brain injury, has still had a very handy career to date.
None of those players for memory were rated higher than Higgins at the time. Three were mature age players, at least two had significant go home factors (Ryan and Kelly) and if you believe the talk at the time; West Coast selected Allen at that pick as they thought we would take him at our next pick.
Of course there will be players that turn out better than those picked above them. A draft can’t predict how players develop in a system, in a different environment with different opportunities.
That doesn’t constitute a ‘fail’ or a ‘mare’. That’s just reality.

Bruuuuh if Richmond don’t get a tall mid or a contested beast in this draft… it’s like some phantom drafts are specifically trying to screw Richmond up.
If Matt Johnson or Erasmus are on the board, then just select them. Hobbs is also fine with his contested ability.
Sonsie looks like he has the frame to put on enough weight to match it on the inside though. Menadue was always going to struggle with that aspect.I remember Conor Menadue’s junior highlights showing the same thing
So when is this mythical draft?
Wonder if we can do a deal to grab Freo's 2nd pick, straight after ours.Big chance to get both Hobbs and Gibcus if we get creative I reckon
We need tall backs so badly, we have one under 30 Balta and he could play anywhere and still be a star. We have a couple of ruffies in Miller and Biggy. If Gibcus slides we would almost be stupid not to take him
We need key position players as badly as Mids Tarrant is just a stop gap and Grimes isn’t getting any younger
The issue with Higgo was that he was highly rated but thought to be already at his ceiling, which was spot on in hindsight.
you and I could pick the guy with the highest champions data points pre-draft, and sleep pretty well afterwards too.Safe pick.
It wasn’t a ‘look into the future’ pick where selectors should be making their money, because that’swhere the risk and the value is.
but he was a decent pick for us and we’ll always have that goal against the Pies.
Amongst Sonsie's strengths are his contested possession and clearances. Not even a close comparison.

Was talking about his offence and bombing them in. Apologies if this offended you
yeah you can't really knock picking a relatively known quantity that is pretty good, you want good players, probably the main knock is they go close to where they are supposed to go in the draft so you pay full price. They would rarely be a 'bargain' but Jack Graham probably was.I can certainly see that argument; and it certainly isn’t an invalid one.
Every draft has those guys (Jack Graham, Devon Robertson. Could potentially argue that guy is Ben Hobbs this year) and it always comes down to at what point do you bank on what you know versus what could be. That will be different between teams and different between drafts.
Essentially, its risk versus reward.
This is where I feel we diverge. You say it wasn’t a ‘look to the future’ pick. That’s fair enough, I certainly won’t argue against there being higher reward guys in that draft. But those that were (Ryan, Kelly [go home factor], Powell [physical questions/ chance of reaching ceiling]) were all high risk.
It can be reasonably argued that you’re not ‘looking to the future’ by drafting guys that won’t be on your list in two years (I’m not lost on the irony saying that in a discussion around Jack Higgins) due to either wanting to go home, or by not reaching the level require than by drafting a lower risk but lower ceiling guy.
I’m not necessarily saying that Higgins was the right pick, but I’m definitely arguing that (at the time and without the benefit of hindsight), it wasn’t the wrong pick.
Yeah 100% I can’t say I’ve been following this draft class as long as previous years but the last few weeks I’ve really started to take notice. We need tall backs so badly, we have one under 30 Balta and he could play anywhere and still be a star. We have a couple of ruffies in Miller and Biggy.
Mids we have Stack (played a mid all his junior career), Bolton, RCD, Ross, Dow, Cumberland and Martyn. Sure we can do with another, but we have 4 more picks after pick 9 (Gibcus), surely on or two of them will join the group.
Would be so pissed off if we gave up the best young key back in the land for a mid who might be marginally better than another we pick up 6 spots later.
Shocked when we picked up CCJones in front of Balta, thank god that worked out but Balta was always going to be a player.
