The trade we made with Collingwood seems weird then.

May have been better to keep picks 38 and 40 in this year’s draft as well as a future third-round selection.?

I suspect if we were to pick a Soligo type, we would trade out a 2nd this year for a future 2nd and a 3rd this year.

I like the idea of Balta out of the backline. But I'd be rotating him in the ruck too. Playing permanent forward has its difficulties

He hasn't played forward since his first year, we wouldn't really know what difficulties that would be. Jack Riewoldt was dropped multiple times in his early years. To me Balta has every attribute of a CHF, good in the air, good mover, good at ground level, aggressive, is a force around the ball and can kick it 60m off a step. Agree he can rest then come in as a second ruck later in the Q, but until he is tried there, none of us know what he will be like. He can always go back if he doesn't impact. We pretty much played the whole year without a CHF and it showed.

Things might play out differently if the Dockers opt for a key forward, but Josh Gibcus may be too good to resist if Ward and Hobbs are off the board when the Tigers are up. The intercept defender reads the play extremely well and has the athletic make-up to play on the key-forward monsters, like the King twins, bursting on the scene.

IN THE MIX: A midfielder may be the first-choice for the Tigers, with Hobbs and Ward set to be snapped up if they get to Richmond’s selection. Jye Amiss is another player in consideration for the Tigers, who they have done their work on. A live trade between Adelaide and Richmond is one to watch on the first night.

Like us they have a midget midfield so Johnson would be a good option @ 192

But... it would be weird to choose Hobbs who is a VIC boy and a Richmond supporter, if WA boys Johnson, Amiss and Erasmus are still on the board. Unless they just rate Hobbs that highly.

I'll stake my reputation as a high quality BF poster on Freo taking local boys at 8 and 10 - there's just too much WA talent there at that stage to risk going for a flight risk. With covid restrictions over the past 2 years, flight risk and the appeal of home is bigger than ever I feel.

He's going to be 3rd banana to Lynch and JR. My concern is if we play like we did in 2021. Horrible ball movement. It's a waste of Baltas talent.. I have never really seen him play as a deep fwd and with his prodigious kick Baltad be better at half fwd at least.

I agree but can’t see him getting past Port. Would just compliment their young core so well

There’ll be at least 1 x club with a player remaining at our pick they desperately want and Will off-load a future first accordingly. Having said that, I think there’s enough quality and we will use our second pick this draft.

Agree, Pies are out of the draft, so are Bulldogs, Essendon only have the one pick, CFC traded out.

Docile drafts with plenty of picks and a number of options, have to make hay while the sun shines. I would be chasing players first round like Sinn, Gibcus, Johnson and even Goater with a later pick.

Next years draft will probably be a frenzy

Curious why we'd be into Soligo? We have an abundance of small players, why do we keep going for them. Unless absolute quality, small forwards often have trouble at AFL level.
