KPD is a need IMO but an even bigger & more urgent need is pure inside mids, these will help with our stoppage issues as it means we won't have to have flankers as stating mids & these guys can get the ball out to our better ball users. Pick 7 should get us our best young mid.

Remember former pick 9 Andrew Moore?

We’ve come a long way gents.

Be grateful 🙏🏻

Some reading for those looking at getting an early start on the draft pool for next year

The ones I will be tracking at this early stage

Bazzo
Lukic
Van Rooyen

3 KPPs

Just revisiting this article from December last year:
Braden Andrews, Lachlan Brooks and Alex Lukic are three I haven't heard mentioned since.

I'm not advocating that I know better than others who would be the best player to go after, however, would it not be sensible to wait until these kids are tested at draft camps and play against each other over the next few weeks. Nominating Hobbs or others is premature. I have my favourites based on available info (limited), however,
Corona will wait until I see some actual games playèd by these kids against each other. At this point in time Josh Ward is the midfielder I'd choose, only because he apparently went head to head with Daicos and was said to have performed very well, even possibly won the encounter.

Corona gives a unique chance to get some good deals with 2nd , 3rd picks.

Or stuff it up big time ?

Alot of the kids hard weird couple years - vic country played a bit more - I think Vic metro had a rough trot
.

Not sure if there's been any mention of the quality of this draft but personally I have my concerns - especially Vic based prospects with the lack of game time over the past 2 years. I'd hate for us to be thinking that we're 'all in' on this draft and fail to see the limitations these players may have after 2 compromised seasons.

I'd be happy to roll over/ trade out a few of our picks this year and invest more so next year when we can see the kids play a proper season. Also, reading the reviews of the top 10 - it seems there are only 3 top talents (2 of which are F/S) and then it drops off considerably.
there will not be a normal season next year, have peeps not learnt anything from all of this ?maybe 2023,maybe ?? but i wouldnt hold my breathe
this is a 3 year agenda/attack/upheavel at the very least

Apparently most club recruiters are after speed.
Whenever other clubs are targetting specific types, it means the "best available" starts to slide.
Hopefully a strong contester slides to our first pick due to others taking speedsters.

Not sure I like this strategy. They are ‘sliders’ for a reason.
The last 2 ‘sliders we selected were Higgins and RCD. Neither of which fill me with confidence.

question is then - how does the upheaval affect the draft crop - especially in Vic. Will it mean young players coming in will take more years to develop or does it mean that they have missed 2-3 years of development in key development years and cannot catch up?

You would think players coming through this year and next then will potentially be adversely affected more so. Even if it is just Vic based players affected directly, the flow on is that it would affect the quality of competition in general and in turn other state players as well.

If this is so, then our real money-ball decision for improvement is to look at emerging players from other clubs and invest in and retain our existing young players. Maybe having a little nibble at the draft if there's one we really like.

Either way - going all in at this draft seems risky to me

I believe the draft and comps have shifted from U18 to U19 which should help a little in ensuring players are more mature and capable entering the system.

If Geelong lose next week our pick from them would be pick 14 or potentially less depending on who wins or loses. C'mon Sydney/GWS.
Will only be Pick 13 if Melbourne also go out in straight sets.
I won't complain with 14 though, especially based the way we would get it :D

Cant see a better trading partner
if we get a 3rd rounder for Chol

#28,#40,#44,#45 = 1815 points and thats enough for a pick #3 bid on Darcy
Gold Coast could beat us if they put their #22 on the table - it's their 3rd pick so they could do it.
Also need to see where all the other picks end up after trades, but at the moment we have the best hand without selling the farm for it.

Mhm, I reckon it would be good but it does remain to be seen, If we end up with that i would want... Hobbs, Ward, Rachele

If we trade 26, 40 & 44
for the Bulldogs 1st then we could look at trading 28 to the Pies for their future 2nd.

If the Dogs lose this weekend and Cats out in straight sets and we have 7, 12 & 14. If the reports are true and these kids can reach their expected potential, getting a combo of Hobbs, Ward, Rachelle/Erasmus/Roberts could potentially be a team changing draft.

We have a great opportunity this year to really set the team up with young talent that we haven’t really had a great deal of access too over the last few years.

After relaxing the rules last year I believe the AFL have gone back to the rule that clubs can only have as many picks as they have free list spots, so unless the Dogs plan on opening up 4+ spots I'm not sure they do that deal.

That's a good point. The one loophole left around this is to leave elevating rookies until after the draft, as we did with Chol last year. This gives you an extra list spot on draft night that you won't actually use.

Worst case I'd probably still do our 26 and 28 for their 14, especially with our list spots so tight.

Pretty sure the doggies will have 4 open spots
Lipinski , Martin, Wallis all look like heading out and probably 2-3 others

You never know with that lot , Draft picks have no value for them as they just keep going hat in hand for more charity picks to the AFL when needed
