Not sure about this - I'd hate to see us trade out core players that have been fundamental in building up the culture and success. I get a sick feeling when I see Hawks get rid of Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis etc and I reckon it must have a poor impact on their culture and leadership - and also give the players that stay a feeling that loyalty and team is not important.if we can build another core from trading out old triple premiership players then we should.
You'd want to be super confident Gibcus will be better than CCJ doing a deal like that. Mixed opinion on him (Gibcus... Well, both, I guess!)I agree and believe we should have a crack at a Tier 2 player (including Gibcus). Can we pick up pick 4 (6) from Adelaide? Would they/you do pick 26 and CCJ?
We would still have picks 7, 16 & 28
There's also the question of how many list spots we have open, and therefore how many live draft picks are required.
If we only have 4 list spots, then we won't even get to use 40 & 44, with 26 & 28 being our 3rd & 4th selections. At this point, forget about "points value" IMO. Swapping 28, 40 & 44 for 27 ultimately improves our draft hand by moving our last live pick forward. Now obviously we should be able to do better than that, either by bundling similar picks for a late 1st/early 2nd, or possibly trading some out into next year's draft.
Looking at current list spots vs current draft picks, it makes sense that some sort of pick trade will occur, one way or the other.

I think it's highly likely that we would have 4-5 list spots open, with 4 list spots we can still take 6 picks to draft night and trade our last 2 picks either for a better pick on the night (would cover 5 spots) or into next year.If we go down only using 4 picks path.
Hopefully we get involved in the dogs pick.-16* for 28/40 & 44,
Gives us 7/15*/16* & 26

You make some very valid points.I think it's highly likely that we would have 4-5 list spots open, with 4 list spots we can still take 6 picks to draft night and trade our last 2 picks either for a better pick on the night (would cover 5 spots) or into next year.
We also have to take into consideration that the 2 early bids will push our 1st pick back 2 spots but our 2nd pick should only go back 1 pick after the Dogs lose their 1st (if they don't trade it) Likewise picks 40 & 44 will move up 2 & 3 spots respectively once the Pies picks are wiped out, so they become 38 & 41, which would be the 2nd and 5th picks in the third rnd, in my mind they are quite valuable in that range (obviously much better than a 3rd rnd pick at say 50+)
Trading for the Dogs pick *16 with 3 of our picks means that they also have to have list spots open. Although I'm not really sure of that considering clubs can take + 2 picks into draft night.
28 + 38 = pick 15You make some very valid points.
Maybe the dogs might have to throw in a future pick into the deal.
I would think that trade could be done by the bloos but it would come down to whether they think there's players they want at those picks, also whether we think there's value to be had with those early 3rd rounders which I think there is, remembering that pick 40 could become 38 and 44 could become 41 after picks are used up with points matching.
I'm starting to feel that way myself.Initially i was in favor of trading our 2 x 3rd rounders plus a 2nd rounder to move up to grab the doggies pick but am now thinking its better to keep and use all 6 picks in the draft as they stand.
*Very good chance our 2 x 3rd rounders will move up a few spots
* there are so many kids in victoria that have had little exposure and there will be some gems between 20-40 that the player we rate at #16 could possibly be available at #30
* Just some kids that were being touted as top 30 players we could get at 3rd round selections
Jai Serong - Mitch Knevitt - Ned long -
This year a player selected at pick #44 could be a better player selected at #16 so maybe just hold onto our existing picks and see who slips through
Yeh injuries arent about how fit you are.last two seasons is a better way of looking at it
and he played a total of 18 games of 46 = 39.13% <--- (Thats bad)
He isnt going to magically get fitter the older he gets and needs to be backed up so we can deal with the likleyhoood of him not playing half the season.
I like his stuff, it’s funny on the main draft board there’s a few that like to take potshots/ cheap shots at his work.Knightmare definitely sticks to his own opinion, can be quite different to the other draft-watchers.
He's the only one to have included Leek Aleer or Jack Avery in his ratings - both now in his top 10!
Our club recruiters will have their own opinion on things, but going by the draft watchers comments, I roughly rank the draftees as follows:
Unavailable - Daicos & Darcy
Tier 1 - Horne-Francis, Callahan
Tier 2 - Erasmus, Hobbs, Ward
Gibcus roughly around here
Tier 3 - Goater, Sinn, Roberts, Rachelle (our first pick range)
Mac Andrew roughly around here
Tier 4 - Sonsie, Johnson, Draper,
Amiss roughly here
Tier 5 - Chesser, Wilmot, Fahey(GWS academy) (our second pick range)
Van Rooyen & Williams roughly here
Tier 6 - Wanganeen, Butler, Brown, Long, MacDonald, Nevitt, Clarke, Browne, Taylor (both our second rounders in this range)
After that it appears very even. Conway as the best-rated ruck, Bazzo, Schlensog, Aleer as KPD. No more KPF's getting a mention st all.

Who else are you delisting/trading in order for us to get 6 senior list spots? We've only lost one so far (Naish), 5 more to go.Initially i was in favor of trading our 2 x 3rd rounders plus a 2nd rounder to move up to grab the doggies pick but am now thinking its better to keep and use all 6 picks in the draft as they stand.

Egg is a rookie, as was Chol originally.Astbury , Houli , Naish , Garthwaite , Egg , Chol (FA) and if possible trade Caddy
Martyn , Cumberland and a couple of others could always be paced on the rookie listEgg is a rookie, as was Chol originally.
You're going to need to make sure Caddy (or another) is traded to make that work and it means we can't land anyone like Narkle
Martyn just re signedMartyn , Cumberland and a couple of others could always be paced on the rookie list
many ways to facilitate list spots
You can still put them onto the rookie listMartyn just re signed
Can you?You can still put them onto the rookie list
Actually you can't, they only allowed that last year due to the Covid cuts. Any senior listed player a club wants to put on to the rookie list needs to be delisted and redrafted as a rookie. You can still put them onto the rookie list
True. It's great struggling to open up 6 spots knowing all picks under 50. It doesn't seem that long ago I could open 10 spots without thinking too hard - and happy to take a kid at pick 102.Egg is a rookie, as was Chol originally.

Agreed. Avery as a late pick looks a plug and go player. Natural footballer with a lovely kick.I like his stuff, it’s funny on the main draft board there’s a few that like to take potshots/ cheap shots at his work.
People need to realise it’s only opinion and appreciate it for that.
I’d be happy to have Avery in yellow and black reminds me of Brisbane hb - Brandon Starcevich. Ultra consistent can play on a variety of players.
